East/West

Hey Guys, looking on as an outsider it seems like the East Coast has a total insuperiority complex when it comes to the West Coast. Like they are constantly having to say... 'Yea, I'm from the east, sorry'; or 'he's doing pretty well here, but I wonder if he'd be any good out west'; you know? That kind of thing.

It's just struck me when i came on here, stood out as the second biggest division in you guys, the first being fools vs normal. Is the snow that much worse? Mountains not half as good? Because there have been some pretty good riders come out of the east coast, no? Dumont, Craighton (sp?), etc...

Help a poor Scotsman out here and explain :)

but anyway, anyone who says 'sorry' in the same sentence as 'im from the east' should be shot

you don't even know what real skiing is till you ride westcoast. along with parks that rival any in the east. we have some of the best Big Mt. in the world. i live an hour from baker and about 2.5 from whistler and from a skiing aspect i would never leave. also the pros your were talking about that come from the east, they are all super sick riders but if you notice most of them move west after they blow up.

i live in the midwest which is 8X worse than the east. i know some kids who huck their meet and if given the chance of a bigass park (east) or even some pow (west) would be ridiculous. i hate ppl bitchin about the easti, ive seen some pics and their parks are insane. out parks in michigan are horrible. its all relative

Latvians rock harsh

east vs. west, well yes the west does get better snow conditions because just how the storms move about, they get the full front of them giving them considerably more powder. this gives them more room for error if they mess up on a trick. for the east, we have way less powder, raising the risk of injury a lot. as for better mountains, i say we both have our share of good and bad ones.

Why don't you take a long walk on a short peir.

the mountains out west are alot bigger and so much better. here they are literally hills but they're still fun sometimes and the parks aren't that bad. out west though there is alot more variety so you learn to ski everything. its pretty limited on out east.

Yea, I did notice those pros had moved out west, part of the inferioroty complex maybe? Or is it just that companies feel their pros represent best in the West?

Basically West, Mid-West and East are all better than here. We don't have decent seasons anymore, never mind decent parks :(

Has the East got parks to rival Copper, Breck, Squaw, Timberline, Whistler? In fact, I doubt I could even mention many East coast resorts, Mont Saint Anne, but that's just from biking.

the parks here are nowhere near as good or big as out west. st anne when i went was small, tremblant parks quite cool and st sauveur, but ive only been to parks in quebec or whistler.

Where i live in the east it sucks, i'm atleast 2 hours away from a decent ski resort, so i mostly ski crappy foot hill resorts that blow, the place nearest to me has a vertical of less then 100ft.

How is it D?

Its tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a ryhme thats right on time its tricky.

I've been skiing the east for 18 years but u can only take this pride shit so far, the west has more vert, snow, and bigger parks its not really a debateable subject, after college thats where im heading

WEST cOST, we are the real niggas, we dont blow snow, we blow bitchessssssssssssssssssssssssss

cody is cuter

thats because since east coast has bad conditiond of snow to deal with, after u get used to it and try the west, its so much easier in the west. se what im sayin. we're skiing the more tricky stuff out in the east.

Land Shark EEEEE EEEEE EEEE

yeah man yall gotta stop complaining because guys like us in the midwest dont get half as much vert or snow as the east. consider yourself lucky if you leave anywhere near a mountain because you are one of like 1 percent of the worlds population that does

why would there be less injurys out west??? our parks are groomed on a semi daily basis so its just as hard as a landing just maybe with a bit less ice. so what if we have softer pow just means we can drop bigger cliffs. and you will ski things out west that are 10x more technical then the east. you have your nice little tree runs but we have power and steeps that you only dream about in the east.

And with eastcoast pros... why wouldn't you move west? bigger parks way more exposure and the chance not to be a park rat.

i have personally been to a eastern resort tremblant, and western ones, lake louis, marmot basin, and whistler in the summer, the amount of the terrain in the west is far supperior, our mountains are huge and so much steeper, powder filled, and more challanging.

Seriously though, learning to ski in the east could make you a better skier because you can ski down decently steep, ice covered slopes. Sure we dont have huge open powder bowls, but still. Skiing on ice is a skill all eastcoasters know very well

jibba jabba

The west kiils it for sure! Yah some of us don't do the park and rail thing as much, but who wants to do that when you can go drop big cliffs and ski pow! More pros come from here(WEST), and are better all around skiers, and just better!

Little do east coasters know (many do but... ECFreeski doesn't) we don't have these magical soft landings you speak of. Yesterday it took until 2:00PM for the park to warm up, before that it was rock hard.

But... when we get a big dump of snow, I'm glad I'm on the west because we have the steeps with the deep snow that makes skiing so much more fun than riding a park.

Isn't the east coast generally warm though? The East Coast of the US at least, because it's lower-down than Canada and from the weather crap I've seen it's warmer too... so wouldn't your landings be soft? Even slush maybe?

^^^its usually hard unless it snowed a lot or it slike spring. like every time in the east so fasr its been icy except for like 1 or timesthat i went, and it was after that noreaster earlier this season

Land Shark EEEEE EEEEE EEEE

always, try falling on a 40 footer with literally ice as a landing, it dont feel soo good. and since its warmer over here, our winters are shorter, another disadvantage of the east.

Why don't you take a long walk on a short peir.

steve, every pic you put up is of your friends throwing flips in the BC, or suckin in the park. and dont get me started on rails. you obviously throw bigger more daring shit in the BC because landing on your side there doesnt end your season like over here. and east coasters know how to deal with less than perfect snow.

i guarantee if you cameover here on an average day you wouldnt throw shit in our parks

east coast

all i'm saying is some of you need to realize how good you have it over there, and see that it makes you a lot tougher of a skiier to start on the east

east coast

^yah I know I got good over here! everyone is spoiled in utah! but tougher, I don't know about that, its not ice over here but its still hurts to tomahawk down a huge face after you double eject of some cliff!

********************

I have not time for shinanagans, NO TIME!

^well ya the west def has bigger shit

learning your whole bag in an icy park makes you very tough tho, and i can guarantee if i went into a park in the west i would throw down hard, being used to icy landings, where, as i said, landing on your side could easily mean the end of your season.

east coast

skiing steep ice makes you better???? bahahahahaha are you kidding seriously. parks are a secondary thing for me out here i could care less if i had a big park i would rather ski a power bowl or a techinical steep over park. this exact topic has been posted on before and everyone knows the west kills the east in every aspect (ok maybe you have us on ice but no one wants to ski ice so you guys can keep it)

^ hell yeah if you can keep an edge on a black covered in ice i say your a pretty damn good skiier

Hardcore drug abuse.....so hot right now. -west

think about it, if u can land on ice, everything else should be simple landing, of course unless ur landing on gravel or grass, which can also happen in the east. and i dont really do the park much either. i went into a park once do far this year

Real mountain men are from out west or make the move. People live for the mountains out there and know them like their backyards. Its a life style, you dont see too many recreational skiers out west like you do out east. People just seem to have a much better general knowledge about skiing in the west. This is not to say that people out east dont love to ski its just that people out west love everything about skiing that people out east dont know about.

anyone who claims that it's easier to ski and jump out west simply knows nothing.

nickers you are a fucking idiot. Have you EVER been out East? Go to Sugarloaf (MAINE), on a week day and then try to say the same thing.

east coast skiers are better, we can do just asa good tricks and have the balls to pull them and maybe take a big fall on shitty conditions or ice. you guys in the west have like a foot or more of powder at all times to fall in.

Guess where I ski bihdge. Quebec, Canada. Right now im out west. I was giving my opinion after spending the winter out here. Thats my findings after being out here. Im right ur wrong.

wow keeping a edge on ice on a black.. holy shit can i sponsor you? my 6 year old brother can keep a edge on a iced over black. you east coast kids don't know shit about what its like to ride a real mt. i was in whistler friday and the turns i was doing on the peak looked like this

and just so you know yes we have ice out here it get cold as hell on the peaks

obviously your snow is better, i'm just saying you west coasters don't know how lucky you are with your soft snow and easy landings. i would love to see you guys throw down on icy tables.

east coast

You East Coasters don't know how lucky you are either dude. I'd kill to have parks like yours, and now even seasons as 'long' as yours :)

You see what I mean though? There is a 'East Vs West' rivalry, i had no idea about that before coming on here.

'we strive to get better faster' hahaha ok everyone i know that wants to progress fast becomes a ski bum at eather: Mamonth, Whistler/Blackcomb, or for big mt. Baker. not on the east coast. that second picture was to show that the peaks get cold and icy when there is lack of powder. (thus the sign's mad amout of frost)

^seriously, that second picture is nothing. Trail signs are like that every single day at the top of my mountain, which isnt nearly as high as others in VT and NH. The coldest snap of this winter had about -15 at the top and 20-35 mph winds. I skied all day, and i enjoyed myself. I think the truly hardcore skiers in the east enjoy skiing more than those of the west no matter what the conditions are

jibba jabba

ok then dismiss the second pic, i was just trying to say we get fucking cold ass days and high winds too we just choose to not ski thoes days.

Thursday at Blackcomb they had 125km/h winds... you can convert that. Most everybody was out with their fatties cause there was a buch of fresh.

I'm back out East and it sucks.

for the guys from the east sayin that its icy and shit, skiing was meant for snow not ice. west has bigger mountains and more snow and we get all the same shit as u guys do.
