ok I am from the east coast and even I say west coast is better. THey have bigger mountains, better parks, a backcountry, and this soft stuff, they call it pow-der I think, its foriegn to me so I don't know

 
well being from the east and skiing just a few days out in CO already i like it better, even early season snow here is better than any mid winter conditions back home.

This is the most rediculus question ever asked. Everyone already knows the answer and is pretty much in conplete agreement that the West is way better. What does the east have that the west doesn't...Nothing that's right.

depends on your motivation. IF your a skier who knows the importance of things like health insurance, a good paying gig, and like being an asshole, stay with us here on the east coast. IF you;re into the whole Bro thing and want to live in your truck at the base of the hill and ski everyday, then of course, head out west and ski real mountains.

 
What are you talking about? I'm pretty sure west coast skiers can get health insurance and a good job. In fact I have both.

And to you people who think us west coast skiers only land on soft snow your full of shit. I've had plenty of icy days over tha last few seasons. We land on ice too just not as often.

biohazard, you're a douche. You really underestimate powder. Sure, it won't hurt nearly as much to fall on your head in powder, but if you're deep enough and your friends are too far away to haul your ass out of the snow, you're going to die.

People really underestimate this stuff, I don't know the last time someone died on east coast ice, but every year numerous people die by falling in tree wells and in avalanches in powder.

Pain is temporary.

BTW, my answer varies in this. On the east coast, the mountains are low so you don't have to drive too far to get to the hill, some people can even go ski for a couple hours after school and many resorts have night skiing. But on the west, the mountains are way higher and skiing after school just isn't possible unless you've got night skiing. But for terrain, shit, West Coast hands down. Nothing like natural terrain parks.

Um, people definitly die skiing east coast each year too. They hit trees going fast. Ice is dangerous.

Oh and people drive to get to good mtns in the east too. the main difference is the high base elevations of the rockies. there are a couple mtns with verticles of +3000 in the east: sugarloaf, killington, and cannon, NH.

But me, I am heading to Jackson with a 4000ft vert!

I've never said landing on your head in soft stuff isn't dangerous. Snow is a solid. Landing on anything solid is going to hurt.

Here's my case. I was born in Edmonton. Beautiful city, beautiful weather, beautiful women. But my family all lived in Ontario and it would have been too hard for my parents to live out there. Plus my house wasn't big enough for my sister and i. so we came back home where i've been living ever since. I've never skied in the West. I'd love to but i've never had teh time nor the money. Aside from teh occasional trip to vermont or quebec the only skiing i've known is Ontario's 800m verticle pimple.

Trust me, there isn't a ski season that goes by that i don't wish my family had stayed out west and i would have spent my winters playing on real hills. But i'm not about to whine about living in that east. There's lots of creative people here doing things with our tiny hills. Skiiers are just as passionate as anywhere in the world. I ski the east and damn proud of it.

 
went out west this past year, totaly different styles. Parkcity's park is unlike anything like anything in the east coast. I'm not saying it was better, just the jumps and rails are different styles. But i went out west to ski not chill in the park. Out west offered freeriding unlike anyother but i was happy to get home and ski good old okemo

hahaha how can you say that? edmonton is like the ugliest city ever. what's beautiful about it? no mountains, no ocean, nothing. and good weather? how is -30 in the winter beautiful? and I have definitely seen some mighty ugly people in edmonton. but if you like it there then stay for sure. personally, I like living in vancouver. now theres a beautiful city. and being stuck in calgary for school isnt all that bad either. at least its not THAT cold all the time.
