Also for the people complaining about the global warming issue, check out the new initiative led by bill gates, Obama, and host of the most powerful people in the world to fund an internationally recognized push for more clean energy. TED talks has something about it I think but I just saw it on Monday and I think the formation of this thing was released on the 27th. Changes are coming in a big way and I'm hyped to know that this means snow may still be around 50 years from now when I'm gonna be an "old school" thugged out ski bum

Nothing is going to come of it. Developed and developing countries economies revolve around fossil fuels and we are not changing anytime soon. Change will come when we as a people are forced to change because it's no longer economically beneficial to use fossil fuels Not because we care about the environment all of a sudden. Money/wealth trumps all.

Its funny you brought up Obama and clean energy. His adminstration backs hydraulic fracking for natural gas, which is arguable worse for the environment than other fossil fuels. Natural gas is actually a lot cleaner burning as far as CO2 emissions are concerned, but it's the process to extract it that is prone to fuckery. The cement casing around the pipes used to extract the gas/water/chemicals is prone to failure which releases methane. Methane is about 100 times more potent (for lack of a better word) greenhouse gas than CO2. Not to mention the damage done to aquifers and our drinking water when wells do fail, contaminating entire aquifers with fracking chemicals and methane. People can actually light their tap on fire.

I wish this wasn't how it was, but people will always contort the truth if its to their benefit/they're getting rich off it. I really do hope we shift to sustainable energy, before we pass the tipping point and do serious, unrepairable harm to a lot of ecosystems on this planet.

Yeahhh like I've been saying for the past week or two I'm preparing myself for another January opening day this season. Temps look crap and like up until winter break we have 55-62 highs. looks like a similar trend to last year actually. But I'm trying to stay positive and look at it as a way to work more and train more and make a little more money before the season and get things set up as best as I can. We always rely on that one little cold front in late December to open and honestly last year they were scared theyd even get to open at all. crazy shit skiing in Missouri. Oh well if shit hits the fan I can always drive up to Wisconsin again :)

Don't really think you under stand the idea of global warming it's a warming up over time (emphasis on over time) it won't just change in one year haha for me,this was one of the most mild Summer's I've had as far as temps go

Obviously it's not going to change that drastically over a year, by tipping point I mean the point where it's completely irreversible and the entirety of mankind is basically fucked. And we're currently careening towards it at a rapid pace, although it may not seem like it.

And by hottest year on record, I mean the avg temps worldwide ended up being the warmest. Clearly it wasn't everywhere.

You clearly know a lot about this stuff and while I absolutely do not, what I said and what this INITIATIVE ( trying to find a solution so don't be so pessimistic although I completely understand where you are coming from) is focused on is a place to start. This thing is the most powerful men in the world, and like you said yourself, power and wealth trumps all. Collectively, these figures can control the world, which is exactly what is the goal. If this was some charity upstart I would understand but you need to be more realistic. I don't know shit about the details of global warming common sense is more than enough to show you that what you said is the reason this whole venture will work, and at least has the best chance of working that this works has ever seen for this problem

Can we consolidate the 80 threads a minute that keep popping up about how the East Coast blows right now? Yes it's shitty.

Atleast you have snow you can drive to.

Killington probably won't even be top to bottom anymore this weekend.

Thats cause it sucks compared to a real mountain like Stowe. They are on the mountain collective too what hardcore skiier wouldn't buy their pass and would support an inferior hill who doesn't give you 50% off Aspen/Taos/Altabird/JH/Whistler/Banff/Mammoth/Squaw???
http://www.stowe.com/ski-ride/conditions/

Looks like a normal December up there. I skiied Killy the day before Stowe opening day and it sucked fuckin dick. Stowe opening day was tight AF multiple routes down top to bottom while the day before I had to fucking hike back up to the gondi and that hike is stupid and I hate it sadly I've done it plenty before pre-Thanskgiving. Killy deserves the bad karma for cock blocking SR on earliest opening day fuck off don't open until you can go top to bottom SR is the best super early east coast hill they expand rapidly while Killy has you still riding the Gondi and that stupid triple for weeks.

BUY THE MOUNTAIN COLLECTIVE FOR 400 BUCKS YOU WILL NEED TO LEAVE NEW ENGLAND THIS WINTER FOR DECENT SKIING!

I love the fact that I'll be able to play golf while my pass is blacked out and I wouldn't even want to ski amongst all the gapers inbetween Xmas and NYD.

Tweak a nerve haha?

Im not driving up to Stowe every weekend. Killington is far enough as it is.

I could only dream they were a part of that collective though.

Killy has the Maxx pass add on.

If you are buying a full season pass to Killy its worth the add on price. Same as the other mountains on it.

And unlike the mountain collective you get 5 days totally free so a trip elsewhere would cost 0 in lift tickets.

The snow on the east coast may suck but these mountains have FINALLY changed their tune and got with the times since Vail has the epic and made skiing all over cheaper.

On that Max pass you can go to Colorado and not spend a penny on lift tickets at Steamboat, Copper, Winter Park for 15 days. Or hit up Big Sky or Bachelor.

1 hour shorter drive time is tempting I thought about getting both Killy and the SR/Loon/Loaf pass understand why people would but that mountain has always been a safe bet for man made groomer runs in bad seasons. All my friends only want passes at these mountains too Id actually have people to drive with if I bought one of those.

wait, so how bad is killington / mt snow now? Semester wraps up in a few days, I was prepared to drive out from Ohio to get some skiing. Sounds not worth it.

I have the student pass so no I can't add it on haha. Even then it's like $300.

Long range forecasts look very limited for snowmaking. Places will barely hold on to what they have now. Mount Washington which I see daily as I love nearby is literally bald. Jay has 1 trail and no snow. It's looking grim. I've seen this before in New England and a lot of places closed mid season and we got 7 feet of powder in April that year. Fingers crossed but ain't looking good.

Stowe is still holding on pretty well.

PA probably isn't going to have consistent snowmaking temps until January.

Driving up to Killington over winter break and then back down to probably not ski in pa. At this point i don't think it's economically worth blowing snow because all they are doing is losing money when it's in the 60s just days after they make some. I honestly would be happy if my home mountain ends up opening by mid January.

Yup, NH is just awful right now. My mountain was supposed to open Dec. 5th and they most likely wont be because its gonna be to warm to blow snow most of this week even at night...So Im skiing mt snow once a weekend until they open. I was skiing there this time last year (I think)

It was colder in late october and I wore a track coat and shorts to school today.

My mountain (pats peak) opened for 2 weeks and is now closed so I have to go to waterville once a week and there is 1 trail open. good thing is sometimes the ticket sellers are nice so you can get your pass for 17$

I went to Pat's a few weeks ago and luckily the magic carpet guys weren't really checking for tickets so I just lapped for an hour and a half. They should've set up bigger features though but still fun to get 5s back on the spine

GLOBAL WARMING IS TAKING OVER!!!! I checked the 15 day forecast and everyday the high is in the 40s and the 50s rain no snow. Every time I check that forecast its just sending me into sadness We need cold..... STOP global warming

Its not global warming, El Niño in South America has delayed winter. The jet stream also moved a couple hundred miles from its usual position which changed temperatures

I feel all your pain east coasters. Last year southern BC's weather sucked, year before that too. 06-07-09-10-11-12 were all garbage years in Quebec, 08-09-10 sucked balls in Ontario.

It seems like its a trend. I cant complain this year.

so its raining, with a forecasted 60 degrees this weekend at Killington. It's also going to rain. we fuuuuuuuuuccckkkkkedd

Was at Mount Snow today and the rain won haha. Gave up after everything soaked through. There were bare spots starting to show already so it's really not looking good for the next week.

i am fighting myself everyday from spending the money and ditching my girl to go out west to chase that pow they are getting

Dude I just booked a flight to Salt Lake City haha. $250 out of JFK!

This is latest I've gone into a season without skiing. The year I'm unemployed and looking to ski, the east decides it wants to be a sauna.

Damn really? That's cheap and I fly out of there. I'm jealous. I might have to do the same lol
