TED talks has something about it I think but I just saw it on Monday and I think the formation of this thing was released on the 27th. Changes are coming in a big way and I'm hyped to know that this means snow may still be around 50 years from now when I'm gonna be an "old school" thugged out ski bum
Nothing is going to come of it. Developed and developing countries economies revolve around fossil fuels and we are not changing anytime soon. Change will come when we as a people are forced to change because it's no longer economically beneficial to use fossil fuels Not because we care about the environment all of a sudden. Money/wealth trumps all.
Its funny you brought up Obama and clean energy. His adminstration backs hydraulic fracking for natural gas, which is arguable worse for the environment than other fossil fuels. Natural gas is actually a lot cleaner burning as far as CO2 emissions are concerned, but it's the process to extract it that is prone to fuckery. The cement casing around the pipes used to extract the gas/water/chemicals is prone to failure which releases methane. Methane is about 100 times more potent (for lack of a better word) greenhouse gas than CO2. Not to mention the damage done to aquifers and our drinking water when wells do fail, contaminating entire aquifers with fracking chemicals and methane. People can actually light their tap on fire.
I wish this wasn't how it was, but people will always contort the truth if its to their benefit/they're getting rich off it. I really do hope we shift to sustainable energy, before we pass the tipping point and do serious, unrepairable harm to a lot of ecosystems on this planet.
