East coast is fucked

Going to Killington this weekend and its going to be 40 degrees... WTF?! Is this the begging of a change in weather patterns for the east coast? 20 degrees one day 40 the next? I was hoping last winter was just a fluke but I'm starting to think this might be the new reality for all east coasters.

Is this your first time on the East Coast? Every year there is a January thaw. Every. Fucking. Year.

But thanks for the chicken little impression, it was spot on.

I get what you mean by the January thaw, but the past two years have definitely been out of the ordinary...

I remember several years went by in my area when I couldn't throw snow high enough over the snowbanks with a shovel in December.. now there's literally no snow in December. I know weather patterns will cycle, but it still sucks for the time being.

Supposed to be 59 here in PA on saturday. Shit man just enjoy it as you would a spring day hoodie n sunglasses....

I dont mind it though, seven springs finally opened the alley and the streets so that makes me not even care about weather let alone I'm sure I'll get to enjoy the cold and snow in 3 weeks when I go to Utah .

52 in NY. Snow was just slush this weekend but nice at the tops. Not looking forward to this week at all... Why weather... Why have u plagued the east while temping us with the wests beauty and abundance of white powdery goodness

Move...

The east coast actually gets way colder than the west up north in the mountains when it does get cold. I don't take my boots out of the car here in Tahoe. Maybe that really cold 2 week period I might think about it but I haven't been burned puttin on cold as boots once.

So ya you just have a mixed bag. Suck it up and deal with it.

I'm not happy 7 feet fell during winter break when the mountain was full of gapers and I wanted to concentrate on gambling on bowl games. But you don't see me bitchin.

Enjoy it, free spring snow in January.

Only problem comes after everything freezes again, but it's the east coast, the groom everything here.

only hit 40 for one day in mn then just fucking dive to some freezy hell for an unknown amount of time.

Welcome to the east coast. It goes from being 80 to being -10. I can't stand it but it happens. And the jet stream is supposed to come back down to us and the goons up in Canada will stop hogging all the Arctic air

Were you on this coast last year? I'm pretty sure I didn't ski in below 32 degree weather once, in jersey anyway. Slush the whole time, you couldn't even hit jumps half the time because it was so slow.

this is called east coast optimism:

"the warm weather followed by cold weather will firm up the existing base, creating ideal conditions for future powder days and prolonging our season well into march."

also, east coasters are gluttons for punishment, which gives us moral highground when we go out west and people complain that "the powder has too high of a moisture content". or, it means that we're retarded.

Hahaha this!

Saturday its supposed to be 54 degrees, then next friday its suppose to be 23. Tomorrow there shall be slushy snowy awesomeness. WOOO

Well if the winter goes the way last year did the west is going to have severe water restrictions. First thing to go is the water allowed for resorts to make snow. So if we have another winter like this and last, then summit county won't be open for business until late January. At least you have water!

I live in Ottawa, Canada, and I literally can never remember weather like this.

We had snowfall records at the end of December and now in January when its normally colder than a witches tit, its like t-shirt weather.

I basically tolerate skiing all winter just as something to pass the time until march, spring skiing is the shit.

I hate thaws. I don't understand why the east coast has to have them but it makes everything look like shit. And don't get me wrong, spring skiing is great fun, but when the next cold front rolls in and it doesn't get above 28°, everything is bulletproof.

it sucks cause we always get our december mini storm, then thaw, the january storm, then thaw, the big febuary storm, then march comes. This thaw will be two weeks long for us in upstate NY

Let this thread die, claiming how warm it is isn't gonna do shit, northern vt has had 130+inches so far, like everyone with half a brain said its a thaugh like every year

Oh yea january thaw it happens every year DUH! ok then explain to me why it will be 60 degrees and raining in the middle of fucking winter.... winter thaw my ass, THIS IS THE NEW EAST COAST get used to it.

You got me there!

But seriously, the east actually gets lots of snow, it's just located in small micoclimates at times. Case in point- I drove through pouring rain for a half hour two weeks ago to get to my BC destination- which was nuking pow. On the EC if you want pow you have to be willing to go out and get it, as it's not just going to come to you. People who can't take that should just move out west like the rest of the people destined to be cherry-picking snow snobs that need eleventeen billiondy inches to fall right at their feet for it to be "happening".

Not trying to rip on you or anything, but that's pretty much how it goes. If you want pow out the ass without having to work at all for it, you pretty much need to move out west somewhere.
