East Coast Girls: Read up if you want to help make a sick event possible!

Earlier I made a thread about an all girls ski and ride competition at Stowe Mountain in Vermont. I am meeting with Stowe's events coordinator this week, and was wondering what type of event you girls would really like to see. I was thinking "Queens Cup" ish. Possibly teams, with a coach or leader for each team. There could be training runs for about two hours and then a slopestyle. The winning team gets a bunch of swag. There can be awards for best rail trick and best jump trick for individuals. These are just some ideas I'm throwing out. I need to create a proposal, so I thought I'd ask for some input so I could begin to clarify what this event will actually be.

I have gotten a bunch of support on this already, so thanks to those who have already helped me with this! Any suggestions? You NS girls have a say in this, because I want this to be really sick. And actually have it happen.

Throw some ideas at me! Thanks

I like the idea of the queens cup idea with teams and prizes for best trick and stuff. i bet we could come up with some creative other catagories for prizes too....like best 80s outfit or something crazy like that....or best helmet/hat hair....best crash!!! I know that Salomon sponsored Progression Ski Camps, which was na all girl ski camp....but it would be sweet if you could get some comany to come with demos and stuff....maybe get some guest judges...like some of the mods or people who run NS....that would be sweet!!! i know not many people like roxy, but it might be easy to get them to sponsor an all girls event....

I think Salomon would be our main sponsor as of right now. possibly burton, and eesay. and a few others...I can't remember off the top of my head.

both. teams can also have both on them...at least thats how it worked at queens cup...but im up for suggestions

even though I am a guy, I think your Ideas sound great. I am a huge supporter of female skiing and think it should be more in the main light. Good luck!

Fuck yeah! This is a great idea, and I'd be up to help with anything you need me to. I'm not sure if I'd compete, but I'll definitely be up for being 'behind the scenes' or whatever.

Cmon girls, get stoked on this! There's so many girl shredders popping up everywhere on the east coast, this is perfect.

I really like the team idea. I think that'll help more girls to get into it. maybe teams could take the course on at once? again, that'd help more girls to get involved since they wouldn't be the only one taking a run at a time. I think practice in the morning, then runs, then maybe a rail jam?

anyway, keep us posted how the meeting wth stowe goes. and I'm back in burlington late august and I'm totally down to help out however needed. let me know aja and thanks for getting a jump start on this!!! it has to happennnn

that would be soo sick i would soo be down to try and come down. and i am sure i could get a couple of girlies to come down with me!! keep me updated

if there was enough exposure and stuff like that im sure some of us from the west would come out too. it would be so sick to see girls skiing getting some recognition and stuff. But yea, slope style would be good. we need more girls events, theres not much out here.

i think this will turn out to be a really sick event! the team idea sounds awesome and so does the rail jam. maybe u could add something w/ the slopestyle that is more individual also. i know the queens cup had teams but also top 3 overall slopestyle individuals, so u could do somethin like that. i really applaud your efforts for making this event go off! good luck and i will be there for sure!

try to keep that off ns if possible..

Aja i think that you have a great idea and i love to see the progression of women skiiers. its unfortunate that we dont have that many girl skiiers in the east cost, but in the past few years it has rly come along.. good luck!

hey!
any last suggestions before I have a meeting with the events coordinator? just checking because I can pretty much bring up any ideas to her.

I'll let you know how it goes.
thanks for the input you guys!

Adria I was thinking about a really similar idea, but not at a mountain. You could try to get RedBull as a sponsor too... we usually get them for everything. But yeah anyways f you need help let me knowwww.

I had a meeting with the events coordinator that went really well. I pretty much need to get a bunch of stuff done...but im not so sure she was crazy about the name.

Girls In The Park Day was what i was going with...but if anyone can think of anything more creative to pitch that would be awesome.

hahahahah. Cool idea. I wish we had an open skiing event at Park City. Funny how the only open event at PC for skiers is girls only. YAY!

thats a sickk idea girl! I doubt I will be able to come, since its quite a hike, but I hope it goes off really well for you all and its a great way to promote girls shredding!

It would be really cool if you had some sponsors there to take a look at the competitors. And itd be great to get a lot of footage from the event so some of the gals could get promos going.

its about time we see more than one girl at every ski comp! times are changing laddddies!

Update:

Here is what its looking like so far.

~all female skiers and riders. all age groups.
~teams of about 5
~two individual runs
~break in between for lunch
~one team run
~competitors BBQ and an afterparty
~Probably in late april

Possible sponsors:
Salomon
burton
NS
boarding for breast cancer
eesa

This is just a tiny summary...but its not for a while so i'll probably keep you updated every so often.
By trying to do this I've learned how much actually goes into putting on a comp, and the effort that goes into it, so I have gained a whole new appreciation for it.

suggestions are always appreciated...even though this is insanely early for it! i know i'll get super busy during the school year so i thought i'd get a headstart.

cheers

speaking of this. whatever happened to that royal candy thing or whatever it was called. you know, the all girls crew?

april may be late... i dont know, it might be best also when the mountain doesnt have much events going on. the sponsors, you got easy aja. salomon cause of that girl that rides for them your buds with, burton cause they're ballin, ns cause they're even more ballin, boarding for breast cancer would be an amazing one to have. and eesa? no idea what that is haha.

you got this down girl. oh and try to get redbull. get a rep you know and its easy as pie.

i have no idea they made a really sick logo and site...but havent heard anything about it for a while..hopefully theyre still doing stuff with it

^aaaand can suck a D.

sick idea sounds super rad, hopefully you get it worked out and have a sick turnout!

never have there been this many pink names in a thread, sounds like a good idea, i'll go check it out and maybe pretend i'm a girl........no homo

this sounds like such a sick idea....hopefully you will be able to pull it off.
too bad i dont live on the east....but maybe your idea will spark some interest in the west

i could maybe try to see if it could be for christmas break, but I think a lot is already going on during that time frame, so that is why it would be difficult. It would also be a little short notice for the sponsors I think as they also have a lot of events going on. I'll bring it up though. Its looking like april so far. we'll see

i would love it to be over break though.

in my past experiences with coordinating events, the most fun is had late season. warm weather, usually sunny, everyone has their skills in top form, BBQ is kickin, and the vibe is just incredible. i would say early april for sure, such a good time to hold a comp

you definitely have the right idea with getting a super early start. it may seem unnecessary right now to get all the details banged out, but the sooner you have everything set the less rushing around you have to do at the end (and trust me, running around trying to get stuff done that week before the event is wayyyyy too stressful). so congrats on the good start, hope everything keeps working out for ya!

you should concentrate a lot on advertising cuz lets face it there arnt that many girl skiers in one region so advertising is something you should concentrate on
