Early winter update, Queenstown New Zealand

The season is soon to kick off here in Queenstown, New Zealand and I thought I'd post some
pix and info for anyone heading down our way.
I've skinned up Coronet Peak, one of the two local Queenstown resorts, the past three mornings and it's in as good a shape as I've ever seen it in May. Boot deep heavy pow (hip deep in places) off trail and fresh tracks the first morning, unbelievable! Coronet's due to open 7 June.

Remarkables (better terrain for big mountain and a park that gets better every year...also, they've got a Burton Stash opening this winter that sounds pretty insane) is due to open 27 June. Not so much snow up there as yet, it gets a lot of sun and has rocks the size of small cars so needs a lot more coverage. Sick terrain though, especially if you don't mind hiking off the chair. I'll get up there as soon as it's skiable and post some pix.
Same goes for Snowpark, Treble Cone and Cardrona...will post something when I can. In the meantime enjoy the pix.

Yeah theres some good snow. Looks good. But... hate to be a dick but I must say that Wanaka is better than Queenstown.

Been up at Hutt for the last few weeks, i can tell you that all of the main trails are skiable at the moment and there some good turns to be had down towers. Not enough snow to ski the bottom of the triple yet. Cold temps forcasted for awhile so snowmaking is well on its way. As well**********Check out the Terrain Park up here this year******************* new features as well as a new Head of Terrain Park bring over his skills from Tahoe, new features have allready been built with plently more to come, should be the best park Mt Hutt has ever seen.

haha nice, I'm coming up to Arrowtown this weekend, was semi considering hiking up coronet but no more room in the car

NOOO WAYY!!!

To all you NZ guys and whoever is going to New Zealand this summer, i HIGHLY recommend Mt. Hutt. I know nothing about it, but I have rode Jonas David parks for the past 6 years and can tell you that you will not hit a more perfect jump in your life.

haha, mt hutts gay. if u stay in methven thats all u get, besides a few club fields. wanaka has tc nd then the 2 best other parks in the counrty, cardies nd snow park

yeah 4 sure it doz. but if u go 2 hutt ur only limiting urself and snow park stil is undoubtably going to be the best park skiing and ull still get all the other southern lakes mountains

or we can keep an open mind instead of calling a mountain "gay" come up and check it out this season then give it a review. Mt.hutt isn't trying to compete with Snow Park but what Mt.Hutt can offer is some good all mountain skiing, what is shaping up to be a really good park for riders of all abilitys and a fun a different experience to what you can get from wanaka and queenstown.

new zealand is insane, i was lucky enough to go to queenstown in sep/06, such a great town and the people are mad chill too. i skied cardrona for 3 days but the snow was shit. must be way better earlier in the nz season, can't wait to get back.

Dude if someone stepped up with some online video media from NZ or even all throughout the Southern Hemisphere this next few months, of no bullshit, banger edits to quench summer ski cravings they would become the coolest person on this, or any skiing website.. Sell it to BNQT, get paid.

how much snow do the mountains actually get? I read some averages from resorts that were around 100cm+ and that's only about 3 or more feet. That's like nothing and the pics from nz looks like theres more.

yeah usually we'd get about a 100-150cm base in an average season. but all we need to cover up is some tussock grass so that snow actually goes a long way

nah wanaka is a bit of a hole, you cannot see the sun the majority of the time during winter. tc might be alright if you can fork out for the season pass. remarks is dope as far as big mountain and park goes. cardies is boring and snowpark is not much closer to wanaka than qtown.
