EA skiing game

so im not saying this is gonna be skate but hopefully its better than freakout+jibbin+gnarshmallow combined

sooo are you and Enlighter behind this jib life thing?... and after looking into it a bit it looks like its actually kind of legit.

I accept your nomination.

Im being negative for a reason.
http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=533495

^that was posted a week or so ago... they dont have anyone to code the game and have to resort to recruiting people to code it on the internet. for a game thats been in development for 8 years, that shows that it isnt going anywhere fast.

Its stupid that this guy is coming here and getting everyone's hopes up for this game, but obviously hasnt made much progress in designing it and is lacking someone to code the physics and whatnot. Sure its good to have someone trying to make a skiing game happen... but coming on NS and claiming it will be epic and as good as Skate is rediculous.

Im being pessimistic because there is absolutely no reason to be positive about this game. if it does come out and turns out to be good, ill be pleasantly surprised... but i'd rather have that be the case than get my hopes up and have nothing happen.

Haha man you are negative. In the most logical way possible.
I can see where the pessimism comes from, but in order to make this a good game, they are going to need NS to be stoked on it. It's obviously not just a scam or some kid making a game in some little 3D animation game engine. NS is on board, along with some other bigger name companies like Jiberish. I agree, it might be a little early to get really excited, but I think this is more just a reminder so we don't forget about it. He needs backing, and we on NS are easily the intended core audience for the game. What have we got to lose to be interested in a realistic ski game?
Think of Jibberish and even Gnarshmallow. Gnarshmallow started as a little project Quaz did when he was bored in the summer, and now it's guilty of giving bad grades to so many people. Jibberish hasn't really changed much since 04, and that wasn't a major label game either. That doesn't stop people from being addicted to it. SSX was so unbelievably unrealistic, and I know I've wasted many many hours on that one. Skiers are so desperate for any kind of skiing game.

I kinda disagree with that part.

I dont think anyone on NS is expecting something on par with Jibbin or Gnarsh... sure theyre fun to mess around with when youre bored at school, but i think everyone here is really asking for something more; along the lines of Skate, except on snow...

Personally i would be disappointed if it turned out to be something like Jibbin or whatever... Sure Jibbin is a fun game, but its really not what anyone is really asking for i dont think.

I'd take a new SSX game thats totally unrealistic over something like Jibbin or whatever. Because at least in SSX you can just mess around and have dope graphics and still have fun.

I remember playing SSX 3 and just skiing the backcountry runs (especially 'Happiness' and whatever the 2nd peak backcountry was called) over and over and hardly pulling any tricks and just slaying pow to the dope soundtrack... You cant do stuff like that in Jibbin or Gnarsh, even though the tricks and stuff may be more realistic, it isnt as rewarding because the graphics suck and it doesnt feel like proper skiing.

Thats why im being pessemistic, because if a ski game we're to be made, i'd want it to have a really solid foundation, good graphics, a dope mountain to shred on and proper physics. I honestly couldnt give a crap if you couldnt huck doublecork 1260s in it or do pretzels or butters, as long as i could ski pow somewhat realistically and have a dope time just skiing down the hill. I think thats the type of game that skiiers are desperate for.

Ok then, yeah I definitely see your point. And I agree. I remember happiness on SSX 3, and even though it was snowboarding, throwing slow corks over pow features and slashing all over was just amazing. I kinda want to play that again actually.
And even though it probably won't be on par with a high budget game, it'll have the underground atmosphere of our sport, and I have no doubt it will be better than the games I mentioned. Just using them to show that we skiers get stoked on skiing games, no matter how much it cost to make them. Jib-Life can serve as a stepping stone towards a high budget game if it doesn't live up to a Skate-level game, or it could surprise us and deliver exactly what we want. Either way I'm looking forward to it.

the pow in ssx 3 is unreal on tour has shitty pow except for this one section next to a lift where you can boost of a ledge

Wow, You are a noob. You have been a member for a year, you obvioulsy haven't been around long enough to know about the big discussion that happened 2 years ago about this. Enlighter (which I think is modern day Jib-Life) made a website, with forums and fund raising two years ago. He raised some money and got multiple idea's and such from the opinions of newschoolers members. He even got character sketches. So shut up and stop trying to be a downer cause all your doing is making yourself look like a fool. Know your shit before you speak. You think you are so cool calling out 12 years old but what are you 14 or 15?

Youre a tool also.

Jib-life just posted on some forum asking for programmers and sh*t for his game. The game has been in dev for 8 years and he doesnt even have someone to program the physics.

Im sure the game will eventually be completed, but theres nothing wrong with being skeptical.

hahahaha got me with the old "ive got the smaller member number" trick
youre right i have no fucking clue about this website or forum of which you speak but from what i understand it was just a collection of ideas no real production occurred and how the ideas were going to work technologically were not figured out...sketches of characters is quite a ways from creating a game but i may be way out of my league and there were actually legitimate advances made in creating a game through Enlighter
regardless there still just seems way to many questions of legitimacy
1. its been 8 years in development and this guy is still looking to hire people and doesnt even have the physics engine?2. the guy who is running jiblife on newschoolers has presented no real information besides saying cheers in every fucking post3. he keeps saying he's working with a lower level production company - name of the company?4. the website he's created is password access only - seems sketchy
like OhMyBosh, i would love for a great skiing game to come out, but as of right now i have seen no legitimate plan that something like this will be created
i'm just going from what people seem to know of this game, and currently that doesn't seem to be a whole lot

Yeah, you have a point. However, I find it hard to believe that it truly has been 8 year I could see it being more like but still. Do you know how long it takes to make a game from scratch? Does anyone on here know? Video games take a long time to produce. Look at "Spore" They started in 1999 or 2000 and it was never released until late 2008. They had a large budget and A LOT of people working on it. EA took like 3 years to produce skate. and they had HUGE work forces. Why do you think skate 2 has a city so similar to skate 1 but with a few changes? It takes a long fucking time to do that shit. There have also been multiple skateboarding games that have been produced before. I know they said that they didn't want to model it off Tony Hawks or anything else, but obviously TH had to have some influence which will make it go faster. Now onto Jib-Life, Jib-life is a game that has to start right from scratch. Completely. There have been 2-3 ski games made before but they sucked. Everyone wants a ski game not like the ones already out. Obviously Jib-life only has a smaller group of developers and work force and a smaller budget and nothing to work off of. So obviously it is going to take quite a while. The previous games Enlighter has produced have not been sports games so it will be new to him, and it will take some trial and error to get things right. Which eats up more time. But all in all, games take a lot longer to produce then you may think. They aren't developed within the 4 months of when a company starts advertising the game until it is released.

Seems way to good to be true. This whole Jib-Life thing seems sketch to me. I hope to be proven wrong but I'm not gonna jizz my pants just yet.

thanks tips.

obviously games take a long time to be developed, but Jib life most likely hasnt even got the game halfway off the ground considering that he still needs to advertise online to find people to program the physics engine... and thats in 8 years!

i am just being pessimistic because he came in this thread acting like he has some amazing game thats going to blow everyone out of the water... when in fact, he doesnt have anything at all, no info on it, and doesnt even have a full development team.

EA took 3 years to produce Skate and it was fucking amazing... and thats the biggest game design company in the world...

Jib-life is one dude with some random people helping program a game with no budget... it'll take 50 years to come anywhere near Skate caliber.

I mean, i respect the guy for trying and whatnot, but claiming hes making a game thatll be better than Skate and whatever is just a bit stupid, especially considering he hasnt made much progress in 8 years.

I just dont see this happening anytime soon. If jib-life actually has some info, it'd be nice if he could tell everyone it rather than just being evasive, and then maybe i could form a better opinion on the game and whatnot... but going with all the info i have seen right now, i think its pretty fair to be incredibly pessimistic.

Ok, so read through that gamedev thread post a little more.

"Jib Life: Urban Sessions™ has been under development for roughly 8

years now, undergoing many re-structures to tend to the changing

markets in the sports games world. It falls under the "extreme sports"

genre as far as categorizing it goes. It's most recent re-structure

came after the release of EA/Blackbox's genre destroying title Skate™

and Skate 2™. Re-designed to appease a very unique and untapped portion

of the gaming market. Further inquiries as to the game focus/audience

will be answered after an NDA has been signed.
"

Now that sounds like they had a design and maybe some coding, but then skate came up and they just trashed all the stuff they already had and started over. Could be a possibility, probably not, but maybe.

even if their is going to be a ski game, which their probably isnt, they'll turn it into some shit where you hit a 500ft gap and do a quad cork double ski flip late shuv it and then land on a rail in a handstand

yes, i read that also.

Regardless of the reasoning... the game has still not gotten off the ground... they had made strides, then wanted to change direction and start again... and theyve just started again now... which means its going to take another lonnnnnnngggggg time before we see anything come about.

Jib Life is being produced in studio in Burlington VT, the title currently has no affiliation with any major studio, but has garnered interest of a few. If we feel we need to go that route we will. Currently there is nothing in the games path that would prevent us from releasing this as an entirely self published title.

Please hold off on further questions until the official announcement comes, I know you guys can wait another month :: )

Also, yes this game has gone through numerous renditions, first starting back just before Mad Trixx was released.

There are over 40 years of industry experience being put behind this game, so keep your pants on and please wait for the official announcements.

Thanks, and keep up the positive support, you have no idea how good it makes us feel on our end to see how stoked you all are on this idea.

neither am ii dont think you should have told us because your just getting our hopes up. but if you make everything in this thread in the game it will be amazing, but i dont know about producing it indipendantly

Tom Wallisch's pro jibber, with physics just like skate

but if u wanted to sell to an audience larger than the freesking world, you would have to use a celebrity skier for the cover like jon olsson or simon dumont... don't hate, it's just good marketing

This.

If he will show us some evidence of progress, THEN I will believe it.

Seems like something that later he will realize that it's wayyyy too big a project for him to tackle.

it would be cool if there was a level editor that would let you recreate your home mountain (or just your dream mountain) and slay it. make sure to make it realistic by having skill in the game progressive and having tricks slower paced than and ssx so its more like what you would do in real life.

online play so you can hook up with your crew and session all togeather or have comps.

how about we all just stop trippin balls and see what becomes of it.
all this arguing and quoting jib-life saying its unlegit is not going to get the game any closer to being done.

Have about 5 real mountains you can shred with REAL rails and realistic jumps. Make it a slow paced game so you can focus on technical tricks and slow style. Have the skier/snowboarder LAND on the LANDING.

Have real cities with handrails and spots. Look how well skate pulled this off.

ohrly?

Do you know about Blizzards next MMO? Nope, cus they haven't said anything about it. Doesn't change the fact they have been hiring developers for the past 2 years for it.

If you guys wanna hate on this, by all means go ahead, it's not gonna change things on our end :: )

Just make sure your hate is informed and not based on something you know nothing about.

diablo 3^

and can you just give us like the vaguest estimate of when its going to actually be released. like 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, more than 3 years
