An E-mail from Mike Moore. A lot of it is just movie promotion, but there's some interesting stuff in here... and wow, i'm shocked about O'Reilly. (sarcasm meter: 9)

There's a gap in there that I filled in myself (apparently something was deleted). It's ''(this administration has taken are)''. That seemed to be what he was saying, but that's just my take on it. Just fyi.

Some People Still Don't Want You To See My Movie... From Michael Moore

Friends,

We're a week away from the nationwide opening of 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and not a day goes by where we don't have some new battle to fight thanks to those who are still working overtime to keep people from seeing this film. What's their problem? Are they worried about something?

A Republican PR firm has formed a fake grassroots front group called 'Move America Forward' to harass and intimidate theater owners into not showing 'Fahrenheit 9/11.' These are the same people who successfully badgered CBS into canceling the Reagan mini-series a few months ago. And they are spending a ton of money this week to threaten movie theaters who even think about showing our movie.

As of this morning, a little over 500 theaters have agreed to show the movie beginning next Friday, June 25. There are three national/regional theater chains who, as of today, have not booked the movie in their theaters. One theater owner in Illinois has reported receiving death threats.

The right wing usually wins these battles. Their basic belief system is built on censorship, repression, and keeping people ignorant. They want to limit or snuff out any debate or dissension. They also don't like pets and are mean to small children. Too many of them are named 'Fred.'

This new nut group is the Right's last hope in limiting how many people can see this movie. All of their other efforts have failed. Let's recap:

1. Roger Friedman at FOX News reported that the head of the company which first agreed to fund our film “got calls from Republican friends pressuring them to back out. And they did. But... Miramax immediately picked up the film! Except...

2. Michael Eisner, the chairman of Disney, then blocked Miramax (a company owned by Disney) from releasing the film once it was finished. But... public attention and embarrassment forced Disney to let the Weinstein brothers of Miramax find another distributor! But...

3. Instead of a new distributor stepping right in -- as all the media predicted would happen -- it took another month to find distributors who would take on this movie. A number of other distributors, thanks to various pressures, were afraid to get involved. It looked for a while that we would be distributing this ourselves. But then Lions Gate and IFC Films rode in to the rescue!

So, we have beaten back all attempts to kill this movie, and the only thing in the way of you now seeing 'Fahrenheit 9/11' is this Republican big-money front group trying to force theaters not to show the movie.

Please, contact your local theaters and let them know you want to see 'Fahrenheit 9/11.' Tell them that some people don't know that this is America and that we believe in freedom of speech and the importance of ALL voices being heard. (The members of MoveOn.org—an ACTUAL grassroots organization—have done a very cool thing. They are pledging to send a message to theater owners and are planning to attend a showing of the film on its opening weekend.)

I appreciate their efforts, but you don’t have to be a member of MoveOn to help stop this effort to keep “Fahrenheit 9/11 from making it to screens across the country. If a theater in your area is planning to show the film, just give them a call and thank them for standing up for the freedom of speech. If your local theater isn't showing the film, call them and let them know that you would like to see it and you'd like them to show it.

The White House and their minions in our media have presented one distorted version of the truth after another for the past four years. All we are asking for is the right to show what they HAVEN'T shown us, the real truth. The truth that ain't pretty (and is, sadly, damningly hilarious).

On top of all this, the MPAA gave the film an 'R' rating. I want all

teenagers to see this film. There is nothing in the film in terms of violence that we didn't see on TV every night at the dinner hour during the Vietnam War. Of course, that's the point, isn't it? The media have given the real footage from Iraq a 'cleansing' -- made it look nice, easy to digest. Mario Cuomo has offered to be our lawyer in appealing this ruling by the MPAA. Frankly, I would like to think the MPAA is saying that the actions (this administration has taken are) revolting, we need to protect our children from seeing what they have done. In that case, the film should be rated NC-17!

However it turns out, I trust all of you teenagers out there will find your way into a theater to see this movie. If the government believes it is OK to send slightly older teenagers to their deaths in Iraq, I think at the very least you should be allowed to see what they are going to draft you for in a couple of years.

Finally, some very sophisticated individuals have been hacking into and shutting down our website. It is an hourly fight to keep it up. We are going to find out who is doing this and we are going to pursue a criminal prosecution. I'm preparing lots of cool stuff for the site so watch for new items on it next week ([http://www.fahrenheit911.com/

andhttp://www.michaelmoore.com).

Thanks again for your support and I hope to see you at the movies on opening night, June 25.

Yours,

Michael Moore

PS. I am sponsoring a number of benefits around the country next week for local and national peace and justice groups, including Military Families Speak Out and September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows. Please check your local papers and my website next week for further details.

PPS. Also, I am going to be on the “Late Show with David Letterman on Friday night. It's on CBS at 11:35 PM Eastern and Pacific. And on Monday morning (June 21) I will be on “The Today Show on NBC. Next week, Jon Stewart and Conan. I'd go on O'Reilly but, like a coward, he walked out on a screening we invited him to (with Al Franken just a few rows away!). I personally caught him sneaking out. Embarrassed, he tried to change the subject. He said, 'When are you coming on my show?' and I said, 'Turn around and watch the rest of the movie and i'll come to your show'.

He walked out. Fair and balanced.

I think he eggarates (sp?) a little when he says Right wing ideals are keeping people ignorant, but I otherwise I find he makes fair points and I will most definetely will see the movie.

I don't think any theaters in Canada are blocking the showings, as it wouldn't affect our politics...

I know some of you will say that he isn't serious about the quote above, and you are probobly right because nothing written by michael Moore should be taken seriously.

also, the left seems want to beat republicans rather than terrorists.

THATS BVECAUSE THERE ARE NO TERRORISTS!!!

well... not none, but not as many as we are led to believe. do you understand that we are not all in constant danger? the world does not exist for the soul purpose of killing you. iraq war, afghanistan war or none, we'd be in the same position terror wise, just without the hype.

in the news, i think from the associated press in our local paper this morning there was a thing about a Northwest airlines flight... somehow the pilot got confused into flying into grand rapids north dakota or somewhere like that... and instead he landed at a nearby airforce base... just flew in a commercial plane... they interrogated him for a long time before they let the planbe leave, but still... you understand that if someone REALLY wants to find a way to kill/destroy/terrorize.... theyll do it. i hate you fuckers who are always worrying about your own safety.

i was being sarcastic too, if your post was directed at me

Terrorism is definitely still around, but it seems to me that it is glorified by people like Bush and Blair. I don't know any numbers, but I doubt that the number of deaths due to terrorists is that high. Pressing problems like the current 'ethnic cleansing' in Sudan, and the civil war in Congo are resulting in many more deaths. I realize that those may not necessarily be international problems, but there are human rights abuses going on in huge quantities, and that needs to be stopped.

exactly, but safety consciousness is overwhelming in this country, that and a lack of responsibility, thats why we have so many stupid motherfucking lawsuits. listen, YOU'RE BEING PLAYED BY HTE MEDIA. there is no overwhelming terrorist threat, yes there is a threat, but it would exist with or without this war. bah.

a lot of people are making a big deal out of the 9-11 commision, determining whether Bush could have done something to prevent 9-11, people criticize him for not preventing it yet, they criticize him for having war to prevent another 9-11

make love to me toilet-Atlantaski

so hes covering for himself, after ignoring intelligence he uses brute force to try and bludgeon an entire world region into submission. i like the commission because i like anything that makes bush look like an ass, but that doesnt change the fact that our country is full of paranoid assholes.

As I pointed out earlier, Logan, Moore obviously was not serious in writing that thing about the pets and small children. I find it mildly amusing that you were unable to detect that, and that you later implied that WE wouldn't be able to catch on to YOUR sarcasm.

You have to understand that Moore himself is a very biased person. It helps him make his point, so, when you see the movie, remember, don't believe everything you see, but let it encourage intelligent thought.

^ ATLredneck, you say the war in Iraq was to prevent terrorism. I'm not saying part of the goal isn't rooting out terrorists, but honestly, you and I both know where the terrorists come from. But attacking Saudi Arabia right now is implausible, because they supply so much oil. Whereas there's the embargo in Iraq... how convenient!

I think you can see where I'm coming at, and I hope this is discussed in Fahreinhet 9/11.

Moore is one of the most biased people around, he is in direct opposition to those 'right wingers' that he talks about. He is going to put together a very interesting movie I can tell you that, and the marketing surrounding this movie has been amazing. Talk about free advertisements. Remember Passion of the Christ? This movie is getting the same type of publicity, all based on controversy. I really hope his movie makes it big as we need 'save a tree, remove a bush'.

JDMAY, read this: 'I know some of you will say that he isn't serious about the quote abovethe one about pets and children, and you are probobly right because nothing written by michael Moore should be taken seriously. '

I knew he wasn't being serious about that, but why the hell did he write that. I'm not offended, or think he's serious, but that came out of no where. It's just kinda odd to read something like that in the middle of an email trying to get people to watch a movie.

uhh, Youve got your skis on backwards--some old guy on the lift

I cannot wait to see this. Yes moore is biased, but so is the news, so are our history books, and any form of media. I think that moore is brilliant, and I respect him him alot.

Dont forget your snorkle ~ Bridger Bowl

silly micheal moore.... i saw an interview with him on sunday morning on cbs i think... or abc... anyhow, he was being interviewed, and the interviewer confronted him about editing the film to suit his purposes... moore denied it, claiming that all the uneditied transcripts were availiabe on his web site, and yada yada yada... anyhow, the cut in question was a part where moore had gone up to capitol hill and was accosting congressmen on their way into work. they showed him asking a congressman if he had any kids in the military, and would he take some information in to his collegues to get them to enlist their kids... the interviewer (george stephenopolous i think) asked moore if he ever advantagously edited his film to appear out of context. moore denied this vehemently, but upon the conclusion of the interview, stephenopolous came on with the transcript from the rough edit, where the congressman went on to explain to moore how he had 2 nephews on their way to afganastan.... funny how that diddnt make the final edit huh?

i also liked how moore is adament about teenagers seeing this film. if theres one thing that my NS experience has tought me, most teenagers, and i do mean most, lack the ability to take in information with much discernment. they love to be fed sensationalism, and will alot of times take it as fact. i would loathe to meet a seventeen year old fresh out of F 911 in discussion for the sureity of a complete lack of reasoning ability.

moore also goes off on his little republican rant, generalizing everyone right of center as evil billionaire masterminds bent on world domination... some one has seen the 007 box set a few too many times ( i wouldnt usually think that possible, but who knows) he then throws in the non sequeters about hating pets and being named fred. i guess that is his attempt at humor, or at softening his virulent feelings to those who might take offense... heven forbid we should offend anyone... that would stand in direct violation of the liberal creedo. ( never offend, in spite of what consequences may occur, be it death, destruction, or mayhem, never, never, offend. (unless youre offending the evil right wing ( all inclusive) in which case, offend without concious.))

anyhow, that is what i think about that guy... i probably wont see his movie, for the same reason that i didnt see mean girls, and probably wont see white chicks. if i happen to be somewhere, and its on one day, ill check it, but im not anymore interested in that then a documentery on lions or baboons. it will probably have about the same ammount of bering on how i go about my daily life.

people like michael moore are a dime a dozen. im not impressed.

They are a dime a dozen, you're right... especially on Fox News. I realize this is off topic, but I was watching an interview witha couple of FNews affiliated people, and if you'd told me that they were in fact Republican party members, I would have believed you. There's no neutrality in the media anymore... you're on one side or you're on the other. Unless you're like Maddox, and you just hate everyone.

I look forward to seeing this film for sure. And Crystal- the plane incident that you mentioned occured where I live, in Rapid City, SD. Instead of landing at the regional airport, the pilot (for reasons unknown) landed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, which is not too far away. It made me think, though- their weren't any precautions taken in regards to commercial planes coming near the base. Makes you wonder how serious national security is.

Ray Bradbury, author of 'Fahrenheit 451' has asked Moore repeatedly to change the title of the film. Also, the tag line of the book (The tempeture at which books burn) and the movie( the tempeture that freedom burns.) Moore has yet to change the title of his movie in disreguard for Bradbury's wishs. Bradbury hopes to settle it without litigation and like gentlemen, but Moore is hardly a gentlemen. I think it is blatently disrespectful to a great author to rip of his title for use in a contreversal, widely distributed, radical film.

I think what people need to understand about the part about freds and being mean to pets is the audience moore is sending this email to. He isn't putting this joke in one of his movies or saying it in an interview, he's sending this email to people who are somehow affiliated with his website, and are therefore his supporters. it was a joke for people who he could relate to, and i think that most people who support him probably would find it funny. It obviously wasnt said to represent his beliefs or to be displayed to a public audience.

no, but when an excellent author asks you repeatedlyto change the title of your film because of the situation you do it, you do it out of respect for the man and his achivements, and yes, Bradbury could win a law suit easily.
