Dynastar officially dead?

I have skied dynastar's since the first round of Monster Eye trouble makers. They no doubt make an incredible, top of the line ski that is built to last.

BUT, with the departure of Adams, how do they except to maintain sales of any type of twin tip? Not that they have been maintaining anyway.

And don't even get me started on the atrocity that is the CHAM.

They need to Nordica/Faction their shit quick and start picking up some rad up and comers.

yea the Distorter, which is still a fantastic ski. But not many people bought them because nobody is riding them! You used to see downey, rainville, adams, chrichton, all the homies. That made kids want to buy. Now you're lucky if you see some shmuck (i.e. myself) riding them in the liftlines.

Plus changing to CHAM from LEGEND lost them the entire alta/bird crowd. What old guy wants to go from skiing the Legend to skiing the cham? What a poor move.

I mean dynastar isnt dead if it has a shitty park ski line and shitty riders.. its still got regular racing and all mntn skis that are prob like 80 percent of sales anyways

the 80% is true for dynastar and most major brands. The only people paying full retail for $800 skis are jabronis.

But the thing is, Dynastar park skis are sick! As stated I have skied them for, jeez, going on 12+ years now probably and they are some of the best!

I guess its just one of those things. Companies progress and change just as much as skiers do. Bigger companies like this were really into freeskiing when it was a little more fresh, but now they are finding new ways to make money, and so they aren't as focused on their park line. I mean, look at Rossi 10 years ago. Their team was stacked!! and now, they have almost nothing. the same thing is starting to happen with the Salomon park team, and it already happened with dynastar. Kids want to buy the skis they see in movies and at contests, so this compares directly to how many people you will see riding skis from these companies. Dynastar probably could put together a pretty sweet team, but they probably just don't see a need to.

Dynastar used to make good stuff, but the fact of the matter is unless it is a "race" ski from them it is an extruded base. For me that's a no go.

Well the Lange/Look sides are always going to be profitable, they are just moving on from park with Rossi towards the sidecountry / AT market.

The Birds entire demo fleet is the Cham. Wouldnt worry about that. They ski surprisingly well too. Lots of meat on them, but still can pivot with the pintail.

Sad to think that 10 years ago their team was the top one. Profit margins are just to slim and they axed the freestyle team. The last pair of Trouble Makers (Six Sense Pipe) were pressed last year. End of an era for sure.

Have any of you actually skied the Chams? They rip. And they make great touring rigs. It's nice to change it up once in a while and take one out for a few runs

I would put good money on the fact that the Cham series is Dynastar's number 1 best selling model of all time...It is an incredibly good ski and hugely popular in Europe, as is all of Dynastar for that matter. They may be moving out of the park scene but Dynastar as a company wont be going anywhere for quite some time.

Dynastar does not really care that much about freestyle skiing, they mainly worry about racing, i mean look at the racers they sponsor, then look at the park skiers they sponsor.

Lolz at all the kids thinking dynastar is dead.

The cham 107 is FANTASTIC SKI. You just have to be a good skier to ski it, and ski big mountains, 2 things that people who think dynstar is dead probably don't do.

And whoever posted that FWT picture, DUH. Ski is fucking rad.

the red/white ghostface troublemakers were my first real park-specific skis, wanted the OG pink base ones so fucking bad but it took me two years of highschool to save for them.

remember the steel tips on those things...?

and the black/green ones the year after that

the memories... RIP :')

i feel like they failed because they never moved on. while other companies were progressing with rocker, wider park skis, symmetrical cuts, etc., dynastar still seemed to be making the same old like 78 waist park ski over and over again

never liked them. i had some like 80 waist skis to begin with, then got the wolf anthems the next year, and haven't gone thinner than 92 waist since

My buddy is on a pair of dynastars that are very similar to line blends,he loves them

I had the black version of those troublemakers and they are definitely my favorite ski of all time so far. So poppy and fun. Did my first 360, first rail slide, first everything on those skis. the memories.

my first twin was the dynastar concept with the cow print bottoms! loved that ski. then i had the candide pro, then the troublemaker.. would love to get on a 90mm waist dynastar again.

ha far from dead.

they've realized there's more money in racing and all mountain skiing.

they're marketing to the people that are going to have 2-3 paris of skis, not the kids that only buy skis the year after to get a deal.

People on this site really do need to widen there horizons when it comes to skiing. Just because a brand is not focusing on park does not mean they are dying or even slowing for that matter.

Honestly there is very little money in park. Everyone here wants a deal, you buy second hand or previous years stock. This does not encourage brands to make park skis. The money is in the all mnt category and the weekend warriors. So really it makes total sense for some brands to back out a little.

But this only means they are focusing elsewhere and may in fact make more revenue after saving money not producing park skis.

So next time you think a brand is dying, go have a closer look at where they are focusing.

Dynastar doesn't even sponsor any legit racers either...

I think the Cham would be a cool ski to have once you have your park, All Mtn Twin, and Pow skis locked down.

First skis I ever skiied on as a 2 year old were Dynastar

It seems like we are following the snowboarding trend,to where the best riders are on Core Brands .. I could be wrong, but are any legit snowboarders rocking Rossi or Salomon boards?

Same thing in skiing.

The big companies, provided the springboard for all of these boutique companies like ON3P and Line to flourish and cater to our demographic

Dynastar is huge in europe. I think their skis appeal to an older generation and above treeline type of terrain. I think the european market alone will keep them alive since the cham is super popular there

Yeah Salomon are actually pretty massive in boarding. Bode Merril is on salomon, as are quite a few other top guys. On the womans side Jenny Jones is on the team as are a couple more good woman riders.

we used to kill it with dynastar 5 years back. they still make really good skis, even twins. companies like line, on3p, norcica, etc have just taken over in the twin tip realm of things. they still make their living!

The Cham is a ugly ass line of skis. Really a shame, I have always been a fan of Dynastar, I would love to find an old pair of Trouble Makers.

You have to remember park skiing isn't the most popular discipline of skiing out there... There is still a huge market for 'non-park' skis and directional/flat tail skis for that matter. So no, to answer your question, Dynastar is officially alive.

I Sell a shit ton of dynastar twins to beginners and kids because it's an alright ski for people starting out and the price point is good.

That's all they got going there.

A lot of people buy sixth sense skis still because they're actually quite cheap. a pair of sixth sense's were my first park skis. dynastar isn't dead, its just not present where we ski

pretty sure the slicer isnt a beginner ski. I'd love to ride a pair of them, 98 underfoot, 132 tip.. oh wait.. its just the Rossi Slat.

Not similar in flex to the blend. Everyone at Dynastar would commit ritual suicide before making a ski that soft.

I can easily say that Dynastars are one of the better quality skis out there. Have a pair of OG graphic mogul skis that were only made in small batches for shops that sold high quantities of mogul skis. they look legit as fuck and are the exact same ski as the new mogul ski. They are also the best mogul skis I have ever used (saying something) and is the best thin waist ice ski I have ever used (Partial Racing background. The park skis are heavy as fuck but are just as burly if not more so than K2, but stiffer, poppier, and faster. gnar skis that are just not popular with the "latest and greatest" demographic, but if you look at people who arent about that life, then you will absolutely see them.
