Dynafit Binding Fail

I just picked up some new boots (Hoji Free 130s) and took my AT set up to REI to get the new boot fitted to my current set up. I'm using ON3P Steeples w/ Dynafit TLT Radical 2.0. I have been using this set up since 2016 so they have a handful of seasons on them, but I have had no issues thus far.

I just picked up the skis and the tech told me one of the bindings failed their function test. One binding passed while the other failed on the "forward lean" test while "lateral release" passed. They told me this is something they often see with pin bindings and I should be ok although they cannot legally say they are "safe."

WTF does this mean? I find it strange one passed and the other failed? Am I good to go with these? Not familiar with this stuff.

Some ski shop nerd can correct me if i am wrong. But it sounds like the binding pre-releases from forward pressure (upward heel release) when they tested it. Pin bingings are not renowend for their safety to begin with, so if the shop says dont worry about it and they are a decent shop I would listen to them.

It means that you might go into an unexpected tele mode if you land something big.

But for real, probably not a large issue. You arent skiing those inbounds anyways, right?

If you aren’t skiing pin bindings and some plastic hiking boots with like 10flex inbounds how is everyone supposed to know how cool and trendy you are?

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've been skiing the bindings the last three days. I skinned up the resort twice to break in the new boots and I have had no problems with the bindings. Today I had a proper backcountry day and the ski with the "failed" binding did pre-release at the heel once. Coincidence? I don't know, but I do have some Armada Tracers and Kingpins coming in the mail on Tuesday so I'll be swapping over to those soon anyway.

Side note: The Hoji 130s rip for an AT boot. So light, so stiff, absolutely love them.
