Dylan Ferguson for KOS 2010

good for him..sick kos...his air sense is/will do him really well in the future...i wish i could be that calm and spot every rotation like he does..jessuus

that guy has skills.. but the majority of those shots are not freeskiing. this sport was created to differentiate itself from that.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The style was smooth and seamless, but lacked grabs. Still very impressive and worth watching.

I realize that many of you who are lending cred to this thread know him personally, and that many of those shots portrayed a talented skier with great fundamentals and great style. And to me, his skiing background is irrelevant; I'm not instantly opposed to being open to voting for him because he's an aerialist.
But, you do have to acknowledge the irony of recommending to the voting public that a skier, who is actually performing aerials maneuvers in his edit, should win a spot for the 'King of Style'. Kinda sorta goes against everything this newschool thing is about, doesn't it?
I dunno. It's much more likely for me to vote for somebody who threw a shot of a cork 5 blunt in their edit, than to homie for his no grab lay double-full full or whatever. It's a style-based contest, no?

yeah for sure the guys got great air sense, but the only legit grab I saw was on the cork 7 truck

yeah dub 16 that's great, its not like he added his on style to it, it looked super areielist. and dub 16 thats not really impressive considering the guy was supposed to go to the olympics, he most be able to do quads or something.

soo...what i have got from this thread..

if you grab..its free skiing

if you dont grab..its aerials(regardless if its a 100 ft step down)

that seems like a very thin/pathetic argument to me

yep, ah, i think you pretty much summed it up there. I guess its just kind of a silly argument in the first place, because it seems like there is an un-official definition floating around of what good style is, which kind of negates what FREEskiing is about in the first place. Freedom to express yourself and have fun however you see fit. It's not like aerials and racing are the enemy, they are just different facets of our sport. I think its cool to see somebody expressing their skiing background in a way that is unique, both to the aerialist world and to us.

That being said, i will not be voting for this entry, even though i got an awesome vibe from it.

grabs or not, the kid has an aerialist STYLE, which has come about through years of aerialist training to be conformed into the norm... He does not have a freeskiing style that has come about through his own unique way of skiing and individuality which is the purpose of freeskiing... This comp is to find that style that is individual and unique, that is different to everyone elses ever seen, making a vid of a style that we see at the olympics with people wearing lycra does not qualify for king of style in my books

so you're putting restrictions against what is FREEskiing and what isn't? is that it? you have a very stupid idea of where "this sport" originated out of.

Dylan is by far my favorite skier to watch in edits and stuff. He does the craziest shit nobody else can even think of doing and yet he can still do the smoother tricks too. And was that a fucking aerials dub to switch in the last shot? Too lazy to check the comments to see if it's been discussed yet

I see what your saying and you make a good point about how the public can perceive this issue differently than us and it could send mixed messages. Although, who primarily makes up the 'public' for KOS...us?

A major aspect of style is HOW you do it, not just in WHAT your doing ya know? He might not have the most innovative/new/groundbreaking style (the WHAT), but HOW he portrays it is what sets him apart in the style category.

soooo sick. those dubs are so silky. and i am pretty sure he could grab those if he wanted to. he has such good air sense. unbelievable

yup, his style is exactly the same when he's doing aerials as when he's skiing in the park. you're totally right. he can't have his own style because he learned to do another aspect of skiing. just like tanner hall can't have style because he was brought up TRAINING for moguls, so his knees are always close, doing tight short swing turns, and he always lands perfectly straight up and down with a double pole plant.

jesus christ you're a moron.

Everybody who is getting all butthurt about people hating on Dylan's tricks need to understand that EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION and just because it isn't the same as yours doesn't give you the right to call them an idiot. Yes hes good at skiing, nobody can deny that. I probably won't ever be able to do a lay-full or any of the other aerials influenced tricks in that vid, that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Buy this chick a tall hoodie and some full tilts and send her to KOS
She did a tripple zomg!!!!!! watch out bobby
