Dying smith I/O

Sup ns! So I have a pair of smith I/O's that I've had for a while, and I really want to change the color of the frames to all black, they are currently the maroon and blue frames and they don't match my get up at all. I searched barred and google searched and nothing helpful came up. So has anyone dyed their I/O's or have any ideas of how to?
 
if you can take the lenses out, then do that, tape up/remove the strap, and coat the frames with several thin, even layers of spray paint. after each layer, let it dry, and after three or four layers, dry once again, and apply a sealing layer of overcoat paint (transparent).
 
spray paint will probably chip eventually, unless you paint a final transparent coat, and if you don't take your time when applying, it can look pretty messy. i think a gloss black would probably look best on goggles. good luck!
 
Get rit dye, follow the instructions. A box or two should do the trick, follow the instructions and rinse well.

If its not obvious enough, take the lens out first
 
no no no nonnonononon. Don't do this. You will more than likely fuck up the foam and that won't be fun. Dye them with RIT dye like the other guy suggested. Remove the lens and the strap. Buy a color dye that is darker than your frame color. Then follow the directions on the packet. After you are done rinse the foam out and you will be all set.
 
I dyed my I/O's all black, including the strap. I did mine with two packs of rit dye and let them soak for about 15-20 minutes. Mine turned out really nicely and as long as you wash them out really well (with cold water) you shouldn't have to worry about it leaving marks on your face.
 
Holy shit. I had this idea in my head earlier today while studying, and came onto ns to find info on how to do it. The weird part is I also have Smith I/O's.
 
Sad to say it didn't work, the dye didn't adhere at all and it all just kind of washed off. I used RIT due so it should have worked, what did I do wrong?
 
did you use boiling water?

how long did you leave them in for

i've died io's with rit dye before with no issues
 
Was the water boiling? I usually add a little salt and let them sit in the water occasionally moving them around for a solid 15 min and use 2-3 boxes of powdered dye and have never had a problem.
 
Ah man I feel like a total noob right now, but just to be sure boiling your goggles doesn't like mishaps them or something?
