i dyed some shoes to look like they were tye died and i really liked them but the soles have worn out from skating. i couple a couple more pairs of white canvas shoes to dye and i was wondering if anyone had good ideas for new designs,

here is a couple pictures of my old shoes

do dip dye, dye the whole shoe a light color then the tips darker colors
or
use hot glue, make a pattern, dye, then peel the glue off and those sections will be undyed

I'm assuming the shoes were white. Since shoes are something you use so often, I would soak them in soda ash to help hold the color. You let them soak in that and then once they aren't soaking anymore, do your dyeing. I've also heard of using salt water, but make sure it's mixed really well because sometimes I've heard that the salt can crystalize weird and F up your colors.

Maybe try using some colorless wax. Put the wax in the designs you want- not too crazy- and let it harden up, then dye. Whatever color is under the dye SHOULD stay in place. From there you can layer colors. Good luck.

Those are real sick. How do you do the tie dye affect? Just dip it into different colors? wouldnt they mix? Ive never tye died anything but i would love a little advice those are one of the coolest things ive seen.

i bought white canvas shoes then got them wet. You want to make sure that the you get all the canvas wet otherwise the ink runs instead of being absorbed. I bought a tie dye kit from the store where you just add water to the bottles with the mix already inside. then i just sprayed it on the shoes. for the fade one i just started on one end with the first color then overlapped a portion of the shoe with the next color and so on. one tie dye kit did three pairs of shoes 3 tank tops a tee shirt and a bandanna.
