Just giving everyone a heads up, I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of emulating the film look.

Want to quickly make your digital photos look like analog ones without shelling out big bucks for paid software by VSCO and DxO? You’re in luck: for a limited time, DxO is giving away free licenses for the previous version of its creative image processing program FilmPack 3. By comparison, VSCO charges $119 for its film emulation packs, and DxO charges $79 for FilmPack 4.

All you need to do is visit the promo page and enter an email address the activation code should be sent to. The software download weighs in at about 280MB. This promo ends on October 31st, 2013, so act soon if you’d like this free program.

If you want the film look then use bloody film, not some half-assed attempt to emulate something which it can't.

Film is expensive. I shoot it a lot of the time, but sometimes if I'm going out and shooting every day I just don't have the cash to shell out for processing and scanning. If I could afford it I would shoot nothing but 120 all the time.

So I do agree that film emulation is lame in a way, it has its place. I like the look of film, but I can't afford to shoot it all the time. Obviously software will never be able to totally emulate the look, but in a lot of cases it is pretty close.

Honestly, if you can get a great image with a film emulator how in the world is it lame? Ya it wont look the same as film or have the same awesome process. But when it boils down if you get a good looking image using a film emulation plugin is not the same thing as if you get a great image from film?(i am not saying if you shoot film or use film emulation you automatically get a great image. Still takes the same amount of skill.)

because it didn't take any of the extra dedication and preplanning that shooting film does. It's trying to be something it's not.

You know it must be good when it has a Canon P&Shit on the front...
