Durham Clones

Are you one of them?? Have you noticed them??

50% of kids in the park now (at least in Vermont) resemble Durham. Small jacket tightened at the waist, giant pants, often goggles over the helm.

My thoughts?: it’s funny as fuck
 
I now go up to groups of kids that match this description and refer to each of them as durham. “Yo what’s good durham love the fit today”
 
On a completely unrelated note: I'm starting to think durhams arm flails are actually deliberate. Like, he's really fuckin good, and I feel like if he wanted to he could most of his tricks with his arms perfectly by his side if he wanted, so that means he's gotta be doin that shit intentionally right?

It’s definitely a stylistic choice and he’s a skilled skier for sure, but I think around here we tend to discredit the skill of new wave instagram/ tik tok skiers because of their stylistic choices. Like their style is definitely wack especially when compared to the old new school core stuff that we tend to talk about a lot on ns but their technical skill is fantastic

Those guys all look different cause they are pro skiers each with different styles

the amount of Tom Wallisch clones in 2012 was INSANE. Kids were rocking full Tom wallisch kits head to toe. I would shout “is that Tom wallisch!?” At them

shit hasnt changed boys, there are always wack trend followers, although I do think the tiny jacket look is especially awful

Nah man it doesn’t matter what we think of Durham himself, the point is he has a million clones out there not even slightly ashamed they completely stole his look.

They are very prevalent in Quebec. When I went to Stoneham there were a bunch of guys with the same kit and style as harlaut just unlike Durham clones there usually in there early twenties

yea majority of people buying harlauts have fits with tight tops but I feel like I see very few baggy on top and baggy on bottom mfs. like tru noah ez henrik look

you can get 50% of the way to perfect cleanliness by adding poles. you can't twirl your hand around your head 3 times every trick with poles in your hands cause you'd be smacking yourself repeatedly. some people look good going no-poles but using them will teach you to clean up your act for sure

I made a comment ab this in some other thread but even up in maine there’s kids doing it to a T. White dollos, over helmet oakleys, vulgus or harlaut pants and a cinched shell jacket on top.

that being said it’s mostly young kids who ain’t sure of who they are themselves, and aren’t sure of their own style yet. They’ll grow out of it, heat me for this take but Durhams technical ability in itself would be enough for 14 year old me to want to emulate it

I find quebec’s pretty traditional when it comes to park style. Most guys I see still go baggy and goggles under. Only thing that might’ve died are kid poles.

pretty good take, i had the most atrocious fits until i developed a sense of style after graduating high school.

Imagine caring what other people wear on the mountain.

I’ve seen people with super tight pants and ear pads throw dubs and I see tons of people who are dressed in XXL harlauts and vishnu wets who can barely slide a rail

They're completely deliberate. It's called "waiter arm" in blading cause you look like a waiter carrying a tray when you do it.

Yeah I was talking to slopestyle coach at Stoneham and he said I was very clearly American because I wore R3valute pants, Capeesh and rode Vishnus. Interesting that none of the smaller ski brands were that popular there.

Gear that we need to ship from the states is too expensive. Vishnus come out to more than buying armadas or k2s in Canada so people don't ride them much. I bought some Capeesh pants and a shirt and the price + shipping wasn't bad though

Baggy pants are not new. Neither is swinging your arms when you land. Neither is goggles over or over+backwards. Seems like overall trends rather than being simply the product of one guy.

It’s the inherent combination of a bunch of different trends that makes it so connected I think. The style, brands, clothes size and ways of wearing it, all of it.

and also would just like to add overall we all did dumb stuff to mimic others when we were younger obviously but not this bad. It was taking from a group vs one individual which seems to be going on now.

This is all True but i feel like for a good minute now when you see a durham clip of himself you know it’s him. As people try to replicate that ofc they’re gonna look like him.
 
Every time I’ve gone to Killington this year the number of kids looking like Durham Jones goes up every time. Willing to bet $20 that this stemmed from yesterday and the amount of Durham clones that were out in full force on Mouse Run.

I prefer to see them ski by and refer to each one as “Discount Durham” but I just laugh and mind my business for the most part.

Fair point to those who say trends have come and gone and this just the new one. people started wearing baggy high vis fits when wallisch started popping and everyone got adidas pants once magnus went new wave but like killington is ridiculous rn with the line miners and size mediums jackets lol. More biz for tides ig
