Dumont with Head

HEAD makes incredible skis and creating a bomber pipe ski in a short amount of time is well within their capacity. Simon is a great fit.

These names probably mean nothing to you but I'm just going to leave them here:

Didier Cuche, Hans Grugger, Ted Ligety, Aksel Lund Svindal, Hans Olsson, Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn, Daniel Albrecht.

HEAD is very legit

It's funny, the kids in this thread judge skis purely on graphics and who reps them. They don't realize the quality of ski that a company like Head can put out of their raceroom. Construction, flex (customization) and uber fast base material (more speed = more amplitude), plus legit ski techs to work on them.

If his only goal is to win 2014 it makes sense, probably doesn't care as much about the image of the brand at this point in his career.

Graphics are hugely important...and unfortunately those head motorhead graphics are painfully, painfully bad. I can't even laugh at those graphics, all I can do is sigh and shake my head

Dumont has had his fun with the freestyle world I feel, if its true he isn't worried financially and everything then I assume he is looking forward to the Olympics as his goal, if thats the case HEAD seems like a good choice for the reasons stated above. Even if they have stupid graphics.

that would be legendary if it was a Tanner/Simon final showdown in the olympics, skiing's biggest stage.

I applaud Dumont here. Head skis are built bulletproof, and being a pipe skier the fact that Head's got good racing pedigree will help him a lot. It also sounds like regardless of a pro model, he can design whatever ski suits his pipe skiing the best.

Someone should look up which company has more money in skiing....head or salmon. Head makes stiff skis, children don't like stiff skis that's why there is hate here.

They used to not be. Head makes amazing skis, unfortunately, they've been out of my price range. Maybe Dumomy will have more input on top sheets. Head's Woodstock line of pow skis were amazing graphics. They just need to do that again

Graphics are important for marketing and selling of skis to insecure individuals who are concerned with their image on the slopes, which happens to be the majority of people skiing (and posting in this thread). Of course I like good graphics as well, and agree the Motorhead stuff is fucking awful (Motorhead is an awesome band, too bad the skis are ugly). Their 10-11 skis looked a lot better.

My point is that for Dumont, if 2014 Olympics are his goal (I assume he isn't planning on competing in his 30's), choosing a ski sponsor that will build the skis he wants is the most important factor, versus image. The opposite of this situation would be Henrik Harlaut skiing on 9thward purely because of the image of the brand versus the quality of product or opportunities afforded in R&D. I'm sure the deal is fair financially as well.

I'm stoked for him. It seems like he's going to learn a lot more about the ski industry with Head

The last time Bode signed his contract with head, he pocketed A LOT of money, so I imagine simon is no exception.

man you must be smoking some really good crack.......Jon was winning halfpipe for YEARS before Simon showed up on Mad Trixs. Head have always been known for making race skis in a twin tip shape.

The only other ski is Dynastar.

"I'm not worried about finances"

yeah. for sure. sorry simon, but shut the fuck up. of course HEAD builts damn nice skis, but you really wanna tell us that money didn't play one very important if not the major role here? HEAD is maybe the biggest company involved in freestyleski-production.They pick you up to their international pro team with BIG Racing Names that have some of the biggest contracts in the whole wintersport industry and we shall believe that you did it, to conclude it in your words " to have the best material"? seems kinda strange then to go with a company which's best material worries you so much (--> 4buckle boot).

I dont like Salomon but its just annoying how you treat them now. "maybe it was the French and myself, but it just never really clicked that well." How dumb must someone be to realize that after 11 years?

Thats just mocking about a company that dropped you.

And btw, HEAD is not an Austrian but an American brand.

the dude's made millions skiing. sure a fat contract has something to do with it, but i seriously doubt it was the deciding factor. he's had several equipment failures in recent XGames (switch 10 he skied away from in slopestyle a few years back, ejection in pipe), and i think it's more than reasonable for him to sign with head based on product and materials. considering their skis dominate the racing circuit, i'm sure they're going to whip up a bomber pipe ski that suits what he wants. just watching him compete, and seeing in person how upset he gets when he loses, i doubt at this stage in his career that finances are a priority. everything he's doing is leading up to the olympics, and i feel like that's going to drive him more than anything else.

please read through my post again...

I already said that if the reason of this sponsorchange was to be provided with the best equipment, why HEAD? Like you already explained, a reason for a new company could obviously have been the bindings. But again, why then HEAD? I never knew HEAD was famous for building the best bindings on the market? I always thaught best ones were for example MARKER's, ROSSIGNOL's or LOOK's. I truly doubt that new Skis will give him so much more height in the pipe, so the only argument left would be boots. But this makes even less sense. HEADs boots are made for racing, they are hard, slim and a 4-bucklet with carving-stance (for all I know from a former HEAD-skier from my homemountain). Simons ex-boot, the SPK pro, is wide, has a lower flex and has a 2 bucklet system.

And you wanna tell me the equipment-argument makes sence?

I would agree if he choosed Full Tilt (or stayed mith the SPK) and for example Rossignol....

wrong, head park skis are very soft, i have two pair....

Also expect his pipe skis to have KERS in them, they will decimate all!!!

FYI, an Original FT and the Head Raptor have pretty much the same geometry...

There are 2 schools of thought to freestyle boots: Traditional (16-18 degrees of forward lean, stiffer flex, narrower fit) and New School (12-14 degrees of forward lean, softer flex, wider fit). Both work because both fit different types of biomechanical needs and skiing styles.

What does Simon actually prefer? Who knows. But just because a boot is marketed for a certain segment of skiing, it does not mean that it does not work well in other segments.

And most pipe skiers actually prefer Traditional boots since the conditions and forces they apply to their boots are similar to the forces applied during racing.

So glad that he said he was gonna focus on getting out a good segment this year, I loved his seggy in Revolver, and the cubed pipe was ill, but I wanted more haha.

this... but head skis are super stable . hopefully simon will help them out with graphics(older graphics have actualy been pretty sweet)i kinda think they got a new art directer or some thing weird

The Head SBC 79 is the best park ski i've ever been on. They are super stable taking off and landing jumps and easy to play around with on rails.
