Dumont done for good?

Dudemont just tweeted that he may have skied his last pipe comp ever. Dude's a legend and he just skied through a torn ACL in that comp. Thoughts?

Also if someone could embed the tweet that would be great.

I dont blame him for not taking another run, doing a first run even was stupid but #sochi.

it would have been sick to see him in the olympics, but now im looking forward to more out of the pipe riding from him. his jump style is so hawt

Like him or not, he is a legend in the sport. Dumont was one of the first pros I discovered on the interwebz as a young skier, so there is a slight feels seeing him "retire" (if that is what this means.) Hopefully we'll see more of him in films again now.

Most definitely. Since JOSS where him and Walnuts made that super serious video, dubbing out and trying to future spin everything i've really realized. They released the damn video because I think Europe won for having no DUBS. Like come on Colby James West brought John Symms along, you can't be taking JOSS seriously lol.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to take issue with the man, both as a human, and as a "representative" of freeskiing.

However, as someone who loves SPORTS, I have a lot of respect for the guy. He's an incredible competitor, as about hardworking and dedicated to skiing as anyone on the planet, and pushed the sport in more ways than just adding a 180 or an extra flip. He's a legend, period. To be on top of, or even near it, for over a decade in this sport is just absolutely mind blowing. This is the end of the era. If you look at the start lists at major comps from 02/03 and 12/13, he's the ONLY guy still out there killing it. The fact that he is still a threat to podium at the biggest events is pretty much unmatched by anyone else in the sport.

Not to mention, he's clocked some of the best and most notable shots ever filmed, all the while competing constantly. His style is ridiculously dialed, and I for one am sad to see him hang it up, but on the flipside, I'm really pumped to see him fully commit to skiing in front of a camera and pushing himself in other aspects. If he puts together a few years of skiing big mountains, he could do some incredible things. You can't question the guys edge control or willingness to go huge and fast...that's for damn sure.

So, I guess.....fuck yeah. Simon! You're a controversial figure in the sport, but you helped define it on the competition side of things, and you gave us some unforgettable moments along the way. Even though ESPN hyped it up obnoxiously, the battle against Tanner in 07 I think was truly a special moment in comp skiing. Best of luck to you, I'm sorry to see it come to an end like this, it would've been incredible to see you rep the US in Sochi.

When he slipped down the pipe tonight I had a feeling that could be the last time we see him in pipe. Great career for him, wishing him a quick recovery and stoked to see him ski when he comes back

...and your a fucking punk. Why would you ever wish that on someone? karma bud... remember this day when something bad happens to you.

soooo sad.simon'S been through a rough 2 or 3 years prior to this day and I really would have wanted to see him end his competitive career with a shot at an olympic podium.

dude is a semi pioneer and a legend for sure.

he deserved it and this is sad.

the end

what did i wish on him? ive known who dumont is since he broke onto the scene back in the day and ive thought he was a tool ever since and that was like 10 years ago or more. sorry i cant like every pro skier just cause theyre a pro. ive heard from numerous people who know/have met him that he is a dick and he comes off that way through any footage ive ever seen of him. i could care less about the end of his skiing career.

Thanks Dumont for 10+ years of competing/pushing the sport. I hope you have a great filming career ahead lf you.

Not sure if he'd be emotionally up to it, or his ego would let him.. but it'd be really great to have him commentate the Olympics.

dudemont skied in an olympic qualifying pipe comp with no fucking acl and still scored a 74.

simon is a fucking legend and today marks the end on an era of freeskiing with 2 of the top pipe skiers now retired. simon is and always will be one of my favourite skiers and ill forsure be rockin my salomon dumonts in the park tommorow. from what ive seen simon is self-aware and down to earth and ill always have the highest respect for him.

the fucking drive dumont had to compete with a torn acl is insane and a testament to his dedication to freeskiing and the olympics. slumdog illionaire inspired me and actually millions (his youtube edit has million views) of others to hit the slopes and freeski. simon defined the way we ski pipe, and he built the discipline up to its olympic status today. simon never let us down, hes given more to freesking than we could imagine possible and for that we should respect him and treat him as a legend like those before him.

keep on killing it dudemont

Im kinda mixed with feelings on this one. Like ik he is a legend and truly took the sport to new heights, but he seems like kinda a tool

unbelievable dedication to go out and give it one last shot with no acl. Cant wait to see Simon in movies again, great competitive career, now on to the next chapter

Disagree on henrick. I mean sure he's got some of that gangster shit going, but in aggregate he's a pretty stoked, happy individual.

Lots of these other guys are aggressive, angry and occasionally bad sports.

At least with Henrick, he's a stoked European that doesn't realize white people usually don't dress/act like they in the real world. ;).

dude has gotten so much more humble the last few years. pretty telling that the first thing he does is apologize to his fans for letting them down. sad way to end an awesome career, he played a huge part in getting halfpipe into the olympics and it would have been awesome to see him there.

honestly though, i'm excited to see what he comes up with post-competition craziness. it doesn't seem like he was having any fun anymore pushing himself to that level through such crazy injuries. dude doesn't owe us anything, and i hope he takes some time to heal up and starts putting out even more banger movie parts than in the past and actually has fun doing it.

Simon was my inspiration to get into freeskiing. I can remember watching his revolver segment and saying wow thats what I want to do. Its really sad to see that he might be done. But its probably even harder on him. To of spent 3 years training so hard and over coming injuries only to have your dreams taken from you in the last minute. Really sucks best of luck to him.

dumont stole my chair at lunch at sunday river once, to rest his foot on. I was rattled and honored at the same time

Dosen't the freeski team coach get to choose the last member of the team?

I mean, there is still a chance for Simon, right? (assuming his foot will be good for the Olympics)

It would seem like a much better choice to pick Simon for that spot, rather than Torin. It's Simon's life goal to be in the Olympics, and he made one hell of an effort to make it happen, compared to Torin who said that he didn't care about the Olympics last European X-games.

torin is injured as well.

The coaches only get one discretionary pick for all of the skiing freestyle sports and I would guess tom will be the pick even tho he hasnt been skiing that well.....but knowing how the olympics have been it will probably go to some fucking ski-cross or mougls dude.

and casabon is the canadian who doesn't realize and there are billions of US park rats who don't realize that either... I guess that's just freeskiing's style...

(which I prefer SO MUCH to spandex pants&jeans vests... yuck)

are we drifting towards calling races again? lol

(not saying you were but some people might choke on this one)

Have to stopped to consider that the people telling you these things about a guy you've never met might be a bit of a douche themselves?

I've met the guy on a few occasions and he's always been a nice guy.

spell his name right... he's not just "pretty" stoked, he's the most stoked skier there is right now. It even goes further than just labeling him that way, I've never met a dude so utterly joyous for the future to happen. His gangster image is only him wearing what he's comfortable in, I know you know this but I feel as though it's easy for even people in the general public to see past that when they hear him speak on tv or meet him.

I could't imagine how shitty dumont feels about this, he has been working sooo hard for this. I hate to see it not work out.

Watching him do that dub frontflip superman back in X games 13 during big air got me into freeskiing, the man is an insipration, it's a sad day for sure

Fucking rookie move, sorry was posting from phone. :)

Yes, the level of stoke that bleeds off of that guy would push through to anyone who hears him talk. I almost wonder if the general public would even be so shallow as to just judge him for how he dresses? I mean maybe in the same way I'm shocked that skiers would want us to be represented by a clean-cut person, the general public is ready to accept a renegade hero.

I do really think that we should give Henrik a ton more default credit for his happiness and level of stoke. I mean if he acted like a gangster dick then that would be one story, but he really isn't. He's just in it to love skiing and help other people do that too. He's probably one of the most positive people in the game right now.

Yeah, but people aren't going to see the "happiness and stoke" and the Inspired small ski area stops…They're gonna see an idiot with dreadlocks barking at the camera like a fool.

good. Why does everyone want seem to want freeskiing to be portrayed as some clean cut atheletic brodown?

Well they do interview athletes a lot on TV at these things. They pick them apart more than pretty much any other ski event on the planet. So there would be lots of that to go from I'd imagine.

this is so sad. simon would have brought a piece of the history of free skiing to the olympics. he was always good for a surprise, something new and unpredictable...be it a new trick or just go huuudge. we'll be missing him in sochi and in the pipe in general...

p.s. can not wait till hendrik throws a wu tang sign into the IOC TV cameras by the way.

Don't know why people are expecting a lot of ”idiot with dreadlocks barking”-stuff from Henrik.Six days ago, Swedish TV did a 12-minute profile on him where he comes across as the soft-spoken, laid back guy he is. No barking into the camera* there.

Dunno if the SVT link works in other countries than Sweden, but here it is.

Same thing with other interviews recently. If that is the Henrik Harlaut we will see representing his country in the Olympics, we have every reason to be proud of him, besides his sick skiing.

No doubt Henrik knows the difference between goofing off in front of his best friends and being an Olympic athlete.

Back to topic: Sad to hear Simon is out. He deserved to be in Sochi.

*OK, he barked once, but off-camera.

To be honest, he can be a little unsportsmanlike at times but he got me into freeskiing, and i'm sure he got many others into it as well. When I first watched slumdog illionaire was amazed by the style and the diversity to freeskiing. I watched that video back when I was 13-14 and I got so stoked seeing those nose butters and his style.

You may not like him, but him being eliminated is a devastating thing to our sport.
