Dumbest thing a shop guy has ever said to you....

i told the guy, who i have been going to for years to have skis mounted, and hes mounted 3 of my pairs of the EXACT skis in the EXACT spot, i tell him to mount them dead center, the next day i pick em up, and they are 8 cm back. i was like thats not right, i said center, and he was like, yeah i looked it up, thats dead center. then i proceeded to show the fuck cunt the line on the ski that says center. so they bought me new skis and re mounted them. i was steamed

you obviously went to wintersport, pete. dont you ever do that again

they did a great job wen ui bought my fujes, but ill bring them to the alpine haus next time, let me know before you ever do that again

but anyways, the guy just was a little biased, and hes a salesman. its not like he had no idea wat he was talking about

So i filled out a little sheet with like what level skiier am i blah blah, this is at our mtn pro shop btw, no names

so i say to the lady

-Oh and can i get them mounted true center

"blank stare" No see we decide where they are mounted

-Well im gonna decide i dont want to get them mounted here then

thankfully the guy who actually mounts em and comes and take a look at me (foil boots, fks 155 bindings, and im wearing the 3.5 puffies) and goes

True center?

-yup

Nice, have em out in 15 mins

he blew my mind

ive been told the 4frnt stl and msp are the same...

they just have different "drawings" and a price difference

Me: what up man im lookin for some bindings for my new AR6's... what do you think i should get?

SHOP guy: um..... well

.... i what kind of bindings are you looking for?

Me: ski bindings?

SHOP guy: um..... "looks at the manager"... asks "do we sell bindings?"

i laugh and just walk away.... haha

(Me holding my Dalbello Kryptons when I had them. The first year, the tan ones.)

Idiot-"You know those are womens boots right?"

Me-Yeah, they're actually like Tanner Hall's signature boot for park"

Idiot-"Yeah, they're marketed as a women's boot. Stacey rides them and likes them. They're nice boots"(Then he walks off)

Man I'm not even done reading the whole thread but I remembered another one.

My friend took his skis to get mounted with 1 boot.

Guy-"Do you have the other boot?"

Friend-"No...you only need one..."

Guy-" No we can't do it like that. We mount it as a set. We need both"

Friend-"Just use that boot for both...."

Guy-"Sorry, we can't. We do it as a set...I donno"

Then, thankfully Chris(the guy who worked there that actually knew what he was doing) came to the rescue and stopped my brain from hurting.

today i heard very scary news... one of my friends, well yeah she is a huge air head, i mean huge air head, but a very nice girl, anyways she just got a job at a ski shop.....she has never skied a day in her life...i cant wait to get some feed back about how she is doing

No i think andrew went to Skiis and Biikes in toronto....

i think he told me this story last season, samething happened to me when i bought my Ar6's and wanted them true centre

To be honest i avoid taking to shop people about that sorta shit cuz they never have anything helpful to provide unless you know them personaly....Especially with fucking bikes.

"You're skiing 189s? That's rediculous. I don't know if I can mount them for you since you should definitely be on 160s or something around there. You ride these new shaped skis really short."

Bringin this back from the dead.....

I was at my local ski swap this morning and one of the volunteer helper guys was trying to sell some nordica superchargers to this old guy(in his 50's mabey). He was like, "They're a very fat ski, so they'll ski powder really well, they're also made softer so you can turn easier" I just laughed and walked away.

At the Toronto Ski and Board Show

Me- Hey do you know anything about the SPK boots

guy- Um were not doing boot fitting today

Me- Thats fine i just want some info about the SPK, Kaos, and Promodle boot

guy- ummmm

Me- Do you know anything about them???

Guy- Uh No

Me- Thats fine.. Bye! (Walk away)

at least he came clean and didn't bullshit me

I'm 5'10" on a good day and 155lbs.

Shop Guy A: "You should be on anything near that big. Let's find you some nice 159s."

Shop Guy B: "You can't mount those there (3cm back from true center). There isn't anything to drill them into."

haha, I don't really have any good stories. i just hang with the one guy that actually knows shit in the store.

The ass that runs the place told my sister that her K2 One Luvs would float in powder though.

I just realized that if my dad worked at a ski shop, he would be the subject of 80% of these posts.

That guy is kinda right. Line, 4frnt, and armada make good skis but I've heard a lot of bad stuff about them quality wise-especially line and when aramda first started making skis. Theres nothing wrong with buying from these companies but it is true that companies like atomic, volkl, rossi, atomic, fischer etc. have been making skis for so long and have so much money that have been put into research and development that you know your going to get a good ski is well made, skis well, and doesn't fall apart.

I laughed so hard when I read this...

I don't have many good stories though I've messed up sometimes, I made the mistake of telling a customer that the Carrera Kimerick goggles came with a nose shield instead of the Carrera Raptors, minor mistake because the Raptors are basically a baby Kimerick... :P

I got the first PE's back in highschool and I took them to the like, nice upscale shop in my town to get mounted. I dropped them off with a guy and I forgot to tell him i wanted them mounted foward. Not center, but like +5 or something, I can't exactly remember. But I forgot, so i ran back in and was like, can you please mount these foward, and they're like oh yea sure. he didn't write anything down, and I figured it probably wouldn't happen, so I called back the next day to confirm that it was actually going to happen like i asked, oh yeah sure. So I go down there a while later to pick them up. Not mounted foward. I'm like, these don't look like their mounted foward at all. And of course, no one has any Idea what Im talking about. So I'm like fuck. the bindings go up here, not back here, thanks for the extra free holes in my brand new skis ass clowns.

ive been told that the bigger goggles you have, the more likely your helmet will stay on during a skier-to-skier collission

Note you would only be told this if the shop guy thinks either you will create a collision or somehow end up in one...I would say the create a collision :D

although this thread is about the dumbest thing said to you in a shop,

i think we need to remember that twintip sales are probably around 5% of most shop sales, and the guys that work in shops need to know about allll the product they stock

which is why they will probably know more about all other product than park skis - e.g. if someone asked me what lengths a set of Fischer RC4's come in, i wouldn't know, but most of the other guys in my shop would.

Most people here are sheltered and only have knowledge of the freestyle/freeride side of things, and not the rest of the product out there (which makes up a clear majority of the industry's sales), whereas most shop guys will know about everything else - thus why some techs might question the logic behind mounting true centre etc...

But i do agree, you should know about all the product you stock.

I remember asking a shpo guy the difference between ar5's and ar6's and he tried telling me there was 6 layers in the core instead of 5

note: i not gonna be a fucking faggot and argue with someone whos never seen me ski, or ever seen me at all

and how would a mid 50's shop guy think i would create a collision skiing because i wanted to buy crowbars?

im not trying to over-react here, but i thought someone would say what you just said

and i dont really think it was sarcasm because to me it doesnt sound sarcastic in any way, but i could be wrong

Lucky for me the people at sturts know what they are talking about. Talked to two different people and both had sound advice for me.

Me: In shop looking at outerwear, i come across an oakley coat i like a lot. "How much is this here?" (ON SALE)

Him: Doesn't it say on the tag?

Me: No i already checked.

Him: Give it here ( annoyed tone ) Walks off for a while.

Me: Well??

Comes back. "Can't seem to find the price." BUT we do have this other coat over here you would look better in." (he had to walk around and find the most expensive coat, $500, also ugly/not my taste )

UH......

Me: Sorry i don't like that one.

Him: But just look at the features. (And has to read the tag that lists the features)

Me: In mid of his sentence, i nodded my head and left the store in disgust. found the same coat at my local store i should have looked in the first place.

went to sniagrab recently just to scope out the situation. they have a lot of dumb people there. i was just looking at, and flexing the new guns, and i though id quiz them, i was like whats the name of the ski, and he was like 'well it says gun, so im gunna say its the gun, so im gunna go with that. Then i was like well whats this one, pointing to the volkl kamasutra (girls ski) he was like thats the best park ski on the market and it would be perfect for you, and i just laughed, and wakled away.

me and my friend are lookin at this sick onepiece.

saleslady: this is the womens section.

me:yea

saleslady: that suit is to big for you.

me: um..ok

saleslady: can you please go back to the mens section.

me: why cant i just....

saleslady: please leave my store.

me:ok bye.

my friend put the STLs back that he had on the counter to buy. she stared at us. we left.

----im looking at skis----

im looking at some 4frnt stl's and im holding them up to me to see hoe tall they are.

guy: i think you want to be looking over there (he points to the snowboards)

me: no these are what i want

guy: oh well suit yourself.

they mounted my skis in different places, like one center and one back and then acted like nothing was wrong. so stupid

^^come on now, i give snowboarders shit all the time and try and sell them skis. i am sure it was just a boarder trying to be funny. the bad thing would be if he didn't even know anything about skis and had a job where he was supposed to sell them (as well as boards).

Haha this is a funny thread having a worked at a small privately owned chain of ski shops in western mass. I must say one thing though: a lot of shop people do say dumb things, however, a lot of asshole customers do come in and talk a big game like they are the best skier in the world and they can "ski the k12." So they put up with more shit then you do just know that. I guess a lot of the reason they say such dumb shit is cuz the job is sooo laid back and sooo easy that this no motivation to be sharp about what is being said.

okay so this just happend this year gettin my new skis mounted NOT AT DICKS SPORTING GOODS

Me, i want these center mounted,

person, okay (puts a note on em and i leave)

Few Days i get a call

Me, Hello

guy, hi im looking at your skis and it says you want them center mounted?

Me, yea...

guy, well are you shure?

Me, yea, why not?

guy, well it might void the warranty,

me, well iv had this done before and ive been fine.

guy, the skis are 66in long and the modern marking is only 2in back, are you shure you want them center mounted?

me, yea iv had it done a few times before,

guy, so you truly want them center mounted?

me, still yes

and they acuatlly did it right!

my mom works at a ski shop and got a phone call from a customer saying if they had any left handed ski poles. No Joke.

I love this thread. it reminds me of all my fun shop experiences. Like the shop guy telling me where to mount. and wondering if I knew that I couldn't put look bindings in the predrilled invader holes. yeah dude, I know.

i got screwed out of a warranty on some skis because the sidewall cracked and the shop owner saw me in the park that day and said i was "inappropriatly using them" and that "today when i saw you fall you broke them". despite the fact that a week before i had my skis in for the same problem and the same shop and a diff employee tried to epoxy the crack together.
