Dumbest thing a customer has said to you (shop guy)

definitely, i completely agree. My target was not at online stores like jibij. more so at online sports mega stores, where there is no retail shop, only a warehouse with a few employees packing and shipping equipment.

While doing a shell fit with no liner no sox , I asked the customer to touch or put you toes were they touch the end of the shell.

I am sitting there waiting for her to respond !

She then proceeds to touch the toe area of the boot with her finger as her lezzo friend looks at her like what the f**k are you doing !

Customer } Can I have a discount,I always get a 10% discount from your boss.

I say } Well he is not here rite now.(they couldn't even remenber his name) so full of shit!.

Customer }Well you look here young man I demand at 10% disount , storms off through the store looking for the person who gave the discount last time !!!! finds another staff member and rants on about how I am going to lose my job becouse of this !(cutomer comes back to register)

I say } What do you do for a living ?

Customer } I am an Accountant.

I say } Do you give disounts to all your customers when they behave like you just have.

Customer } ....... ( silence )

so internet stores operate without employees in tax free zones and don't need heat or electricity. i suppose the computers pack and ship the products too.

you're retar... misguided.

An online store doesn't have bills to pay? Are you retarded? They still require warehouses or some sort of real property in which to store their stock. They obviously have electricity bills etc. to pay... they have to spend time and money to develop the site. Sure their costs aren't high, they don't have "salespeople" to pay. Fuck salespeople though. They piss me off. I hate going into a store "hey buddy, can I help you?" NO, you can't help me, because you are most likely a retard that doesn't know shit, and you are gonna pressure me to buy something. I would rather walk around the store comfortably and have a laid back shopping experience and not have some asshat breathing down my neck, telling me what I should and shouldn't ride.

Warranty is a problem when you buy online? Ok. perhaps but in my experience, not really. When I had a problem with my Armadas I just called Armada, Tyson gave me an R.A. number I shipped him the product and I got new skis, and some free clothing. What a hassle... I didn't have to go to the shop and have some guy give me grief about what happened to my boards.

The only ski shop I like to go into is Jibij, Josh kicks ass, but from a financial standpoint I can't afford to really shop their. They only carry the latest and most expensive gear, and I simply cannot afford this luxury.

Online shopping is only going to get more popular in the future. REAL shops will never be completely phased out, but in the next 15 years I predict at least half of ski dedicated shops will be out of business, and replaced by online exclusive distribution, which may be a good thing cause there are some really awful shops...

your making a generalization about how shop employees act.

and do you realize not all people can get online and shop?

a lot of people dont know shit about skis either and rely on the knowledge of shop employees.

Based on my past and fairly substantial experience, but a generalization nonetheless, yes.

Do I realize not all people can get online and shop? Hmmm no. I would say (generalizing once again) most people that can afford to ski probably can afford and DO have computers and internet. And, actually, yes everybody can go to their public library and use the internet. Unless we are talking about the percentage of people who are completely computer illiterate, but those people will be trampled by society anyways.

yeah dude im sure that the shops at the mountains will close and computers will be erected in their place. 15 years. dude totally...

come on, shops do great business. they arent going to go under. thats just stupid. most people that buy skis go into a shop and talk to an employee. just because you assume that the mainstream buyer is as knowledgeable as you are (apparently the einstein of the ski world) does make it true. people want help, they want to talk to real people. most people really dont know what they want, shop associates can help guide them. the "retarded" ones are probably older guys that dont know much about twins...eventually they will. those retards know about racing skis, intermediate skis, and beginner skis. thats what they primarily sell. that primary buyer wont know what they want seeing a spec sheet online. they dont know shit about construction, sidewalls, radius...all the shit it lists, they need that explained. actually, more times than not, they DONT need it explained, they are just there to buy what works, and they do.

Very good points, I guess I have to agree with what you said. However, I don't mean ALL ski shops will phase out, no way. But, I think a lot of them will go under because of the internet phenomenon.

Haha, I work in a pizza shop, and people come in asking how big our 16inch pizza is.

My response: "well, do you know how long a foot is? about 4 inches longer then a foot." (with the appropriate hand measurements demonstrating a foot to them)

I don't know where you get skis, but if the markup is really 200%, let me know the shop so I can work there and get paid a lot more than what I make now. Big box stores like Dick can get a little larger discount because of the volume they buy, but it is NOWHERE near 200% markup. REAL shops have REAL skiers working there, not for the money, but because they love the sport and want to see it progress and grow. 50% off sales are to get rid of old merchandise and free up money to buy the new stuff. If the margins were that great, you would rarely find a shop owner woking in the shop.

some llittle aussie kid come in to our shop and saw all the demo twin tips, he went to them and looked at them for half a minute stunned as, then said 'WOW! are these those double enders i heard of?'

i was lookin at jackets one day and this kid came in lookin for helmets

he looked all thru all the helmets and then went to ask one of the shop guys if they had one of those aerodynamic racing helmets cuz apparently he thought they helped people get more speed or somethin in the park...

i was like wtf?

oh man working in a rental shop in aust you get that all the fucking time. i could record "just do up the buckles, it pushes your heel into the pocket blah blah blah..." and play it on a constant loop in the shop.

then you get the people who argue against this point

and the ones who genuinely do put their boots on with their sneakers still on

oh the classic "skiier type 3 expert" who cant put on a pair of boots, then claims that his 2 sizes too big 5 yearold rear entry boots are too small & stiff,

then gets the cheapest shittiest rentals we stock

once had a lady come in going absolutely apeshit cos "we set up her skis the wrong way & they didnt click into her boots" turns out the dipshit picked up a pair of skis at the lodge that were a different length, brand AND colour to her own, then made our lives so shitty the only way to appease the bitch was to promise that we'll deliver her skis when the person who "stole" them brings them back. we ring the lodge at the top of the mtn (cloud 9 for any falls regulars) and yep, her skis are still on the rack.

youd be surprised man, in the whole of falls creek theres prolly only like 3 shops that have demo twins, and thats t he biggest village in victoria.

australian skiiers are retarded.

ooh just remembered another good one:

coming down the path that leads into the village (orys) it didnt have any snow on it at all, just dirt and rocks. and theres a group of 4 girls double poling along it. they had been pushing themselves along dirt for atleast 20 meters (yards). i walk past them, and notice our shops stickers on the skis so im like "uh you should take off your skis & walk like everyone else"

"why?"

"cos dirt wrecks the skis" (what are you, retarded???)

"so?"

theyt didnt get their deposits back.

i work reservations for keystone and have had guests ask...

"does it snow on the weekends there?"

i usually apply with,

"well, we tell god to hold off on the weekends, but soemtimes hes just darn mad!"

These are from when I worked at a resort rental/repair shop in upstate NY years ago

me - "Do you know what your skier type is" pointing to the diagram showing skier types

him - "Type 4" looking everywhere but the chart i'm trying to show him.

A gentleman walks in with a pair of ancient boots, the ones that UV rays weakened the plastic (thermoplastic i think) and have a tendency to explode on you. He wants to rent our skis b/c his are 'a little older' and 'aren't tuned that well', and we replied that we couldn't put those boots in our skis b/c they are dangerous. He doesn't believe us, and decides to ride his own skis instead of renting a boot/ski package. While putting his boots on, kicking a post to get his foot in, the front half of the boot just explodes, just like we told him it would.

countless people who put their boots on, and then their skis, and try to walk out of the shop that way.

this has nothing to do with size. Some one 5'10" should be able to ski those fine.

He just is a weak, shitty skier, that's all...

yeah boots are the only thing i wont ever buy online. You cant beat having someone who really knows what there doing fitting you.

my buddies work in a ski shop, and when they get extremely pissed off at a customer, they will just say "hold on a sec, I will do you a deal. Let me go get our super demo boots, and all we will charge you for the rental is 20 bucks. It has to be cash though, cuz our really good demos aren't even in the computer yet." Then they go in the back, find the shittiest old boots they can find, and pocket the 20 bucks.

Mind you, they are just being dicks to people who are dicks to them ,they don't do this to everyone

I understand why you'd be extremely pissed off if someone came in for boot fitting and then went to buy boots online. I ALWAYS buy my boots in-store where I get fitted, they are great about it too, guarantee a fit for a year and what not. But the only time I would ever go and buy boots online is if the shop didn't have any boots that fit me (i have horrible foot problems), but that hasn't happened yet. I went into my shop today actually and talked to them about it, and I'm getting fitted next week when I have some time off from classes.

Jake

while working in the rental shop that clearly states they only sell and rent ski boots, skis and poles..
