Dulling your edges?

I've heard a fair amount of talk about dulling the edges of your skis underneath the binding, for ease on rails. Anyone do this or know anything about it? I'm looking for pros and cons here.

PRO-edges don't catch on rail

CON- lose some edge control free skiing

I wouldn't actually dull your edges on purpose. if u rail enough they will eventualy get dull, plus i tinhk it is just as easy to grimd with sharp edges that with dull ones

In an ideal world you would have a pair that is for rails only, ie> you don't give a shit if they break,

that way you still have a good pair for skiing

In an ideal world I'd be emperor and you all would be my slaves. But back to the point for a minute... Greg, I do have a pair of skis that are just for rails, and I was thinking about dulling the edges on those. I think I'll do it.

don't detune (that's the technical term for dulling) anything except the tip and tail. hitting rails will do the trick everywhere else

yah id say dull the edges but only about a foot of the ski. dull them really well. when they are sharp they not only catch but they fuck the shit outta some rails too... say ur doin a pvc rail for fun, they put huge gashes in it... i know form experience.

the best way to dull your edges when you first get your skis is to use a dremel tool very lightly, and start doing easy rails until you edges are were you want them.

Not only should you dull your edges, but you should purposefully run over a bunch of sharp rocks as well. The gouges keep your skis from going too fast and getting out of control.
