DSLR on the mountain?

I've been using a gopro for the last few years for filming, but it is time for an upgrade. I've been saving up for a DSLR for filming and I successfully funded all the money needed. The only problem is my dad says I'm going to most likely break it filming on the mountain. Any way to convince him otherwise?

If you bought it, not your parents, then you can use it whenever/however you want. I fail to see the problem

That you'll break yourself instead of the camera. Any time I've taken my camera out, if I am about to fall I sacrifice my body for the camera. But mostly don't fall.

Not even true

OP I film with a DSLR 20+ days on the mountain and have done so for the past 2 years and the camera is fine.

I've dropped my camera more times off the mountain onto tar then dropping it at the Mtn. Your really cautious when you have your camera out and if you can ski down a groomed run without a camera you shouldn't have any trouble doing it with one

Be super carefull and get a fanny pack. You will look like a gaper but if you spin it around so the camera is on your belly you can ride the lift with it and if you crash you can protect it really well. It also makes it really fast and easy to access. I spent all yesterday skiing and shooting schweitzer's gnarliest terrain (screenshots in profile) and my camera was just fine. Before when I carried it in a backpack skiing with my camera was scary, now I can protect it in almost any crash.
