I posted this a little while ago, but the search feature isn't working... Anyways, im pretty sure im going DSL instead of a cable modem. I was wondering what you people think the best provider for it is, and if it is a pain in the ass to go wireless....

get whatever fits your needs best, see whats faster either could be, normally dsl has a much greater upload so if you need that then go for it. also if your into gaming try and fiqure out what there latency is. DSLreports.com has a huge forum that has reviews of the many providers. also if your thinking of going wireliss... as in wireless networking, its kinda a pain in the ass but if you have a laptop i guess its worth it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't your bandwidth split between you and your neigbors with cable, where as with DSL, it's exclusive to you?

And wireless is pretty easy to set up - a buddy of mine did it.

only with uncapped cable, if its capped then u should get like 70% of your allocated bandwidth at anytime, ofcurse its never garanted. uncapped cable is the shit though cuz then you can get really fast speeds. 2 types of slowdowns can happen regardless of if your on dsl or cable. 1 ur cable/phoneline that services your street can reach its maximum trasfer and cuase slow downs, or your isps backbone can reach its transfer limiit and it will cuase slowdowns.

well, I got a house in bridgeport CT, up at my college, and its a pretty decent sized city, and I am living in a real popular area, so I am kinda thinking that cable may be a little slow, but then again i could be wrong

I have ADSL and its great except my ISP limits speeds. I can't get anymore than 150 KB/s for downloading and only about 16 KB/s for uploading (which really sucks because I run an FTP). It's not like I have a choice what to use though.
