i have cable. sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking fast. i hear its faster than DSL also and not too expensive. def. worth it

cable is only faster if you are the only one on your block. it is shared if there are to many people on at once in about a 4 block radius then it is SOOOO slow.

i got cable like 3 years ago when it was pretty new and it was crazy fast. Now its fast but since everyone has it now its getting kinda slow.

for all ya who have dial up you can get sattlelight. it is icfuckingspensive and not quite as fast as dsl but you can get it. cabel is by far the best!

cabel is good. I live in an area with a bunch of old people so almost none of them even have internet.

I've had both and I much prefer DSL, it's probably about 90% the speed of cable but its always the same. Cable sucks because when you have busy times it gets very very slow.

Very true. Cable can get extremely slow and if ur playing online games such as tribes or cs, the lag sux.

Depends where you live, DSL is usally a stable speed and much better for people in heavily populated areas like a city. It also depends how far you live away from the company offering the service (I forget the technical name for this). Cable is usally a little bit faster but speed can vary a lot depending on usage and the service. Price depends on the company. Just do some research and go what looks better for you.

don't you still have to dial up for sattellite? i though you send information via the phone line and download stuff through the sattellite. am i right?

i never even heard of 13.21 Gbps. where the fuck can you get that? next door to the provider in tokyo or something? that's nuts. are computers even that fast?

 
There was somthing on slashdot of some new set up they used at CalTech, and this group got their bandwidth to over 100 gigs, they transferred like 1.8 Terabytes in not too long.

-terabyte = 1000 gigabytes

-the reason some dial up is slow is not what speed modem you have it is the phone lines running to your house can not handle 56k.

-when you have satellite you still have to use a phone line for uploading therefore if you want to game ono a satellite or host ftp or anything of the sort baically you cant.

-good list piot, most universities use a combination of those connections here at CMU they have a couple OC-3 'lines'

Its just a list. I have a buisness class cable connection that runs at 1.5Mbps (thats MEGABITS not MEGABYTES. Divide by 8 to get speed in kb/s) which is the equivalent to a T1 connection, but my upstream is horrible, its only around like 400 kbps... ugh... its SUPPOSED to be 768 kbps. The cable is a lot better than DSL i nthis area. The only DSL provider is Verizon, and they have dynamic IP assigning, so every time you connect to DSL it assigns a new IP addy, which I don't like. My IP hadn't changed for like 10 months until yesterday, which sorta pissed me off.

If you live in an area where not many people have cable internet, like it is around here, than get cable in a heartbeat. Get DSL if there are a TON of people with high speed internet in your area.

Cable can be pretty fast, but its getting pretty common around here...so the high volume kinda ruions it from about 6-8 pm
