Drummers of NS

Ended up getting an alesis lol. Hopefully it holds up. Got a dm8 for $375. Wouldn't have paid over 5 for it. Hopefully it holds up. Not the biggest fan of it but like it a lot more than some of the other cheap ones. I had a friend just buy the dm10 for a stack, I def wouldn't drop that kind of money on one but for the price it was worth it to me. Wanted a roland but good luck getting a deal on one.

I'm literally never going to play this thing outside my house so good price decent enough kit and I'm happy.

Also picked up a new DW 3000 pedal today. Decided to wait on cymbals.

picked up a 66 slingerland blue sparkle last summer. keeping my ear to the ground about some nice large/dark K's, maybe some new beats or some small crashes, maple shell pieces, etc.

I was looking at vintage slingerlands. Almost bought one. I'm going to try and grab some new beats next winter as well as a couple new crashes and a splash.

To thread

Just had a great sesh today. Haven't been playing for a while. Head injury where any pressure, sound or touch fucks with my head. Been avoiding playing but finally just had to let loose. Was probably only 10 min but it felt amazing. Got a chance to release it all.

Hopefully I can find a drum friendly space next winter. I think I'm going to bring my doumbek and drum pad with me to NZ to keep me from going crazy. I did a winter a couple years ago with no drums and it was lame. Maybe I'll be able to find somebody with a guitar to jam with.

I have been a drummer for about 13 years. Had to sell my kit a couple of years ago unfortunately:(

I fucking miss it. Had a late 80's Tama Rockstar with Sabian everything. Had such a heavy sound. I'm heavily influenced by Lars Ulrich (most people hate him, but fuck the haters I love his style) so my kit was pretty identical to what he was playing on in Metallica's prime.

I've been drumming for coming up on 5 years now. Kit is a tama. One splash, one crash, and a China plus the usual hi hat, crash, and ride. One of the funniest things there is minus skiing aha

Brought my Edrums out from storage at my parents house last week and got them set up in my living room.

i barely played at all the last year. Didn't touch a kit for 6 months in CO, and was on the road a bunch this summer) Didn't even have a hand drum most of the time. Longest I went in my life really.

There was a period late teens to early 20s where I didn't play that much, but still could play when I wanted to.

It's nice to be able to get down for a bit whenever I want.

Downside is I was fucking around with some stuff that was pretty complicated for me and I ended up having to stop. My brain is fucked from head injuries and it literally hurts my brain to think lol.

But I figured out a nice pattern, it's just going to take a little bit to get comfortable and speed it up.

If anyone has a few bucks to spare, an edrum kit or even some pads is a great investment. I also am very self conscious about my playing so it's nice to be able to rock out and nobody can here me. It just frees everything up a bit, and I can really get in the zone and just play.

Also picked up some A series crashes and hats off CL this summer. So that was nice to really get my main kit sounding nice.

Jesus. I forgot how good it feels to play. If either of my sisters kids ever end up into drumming I'm buying them a solid electronic kit.

If I had one of these growing up it would have been unreal. Just played for about 3 hours off and on today and was torching it. I thought my kit was going to light on fire(hopefully that doesn't happen).

Granted I never was allowed to take lessons and my technique is pretty whack(I'm working on it) but for me, it felt fucking awesome. Such a good outlet.

I guess I never really stopped. Just play the steering wheel or table or whatever. But to actually have a kit it's just endless possibilities.

I'm going to go to bed now before I get too stoked lol.

Seriously if you don't live somewhere you can play all the time, get an ekit. Best thing I ever bought and my only regret is not buying one 10 years earlier.

/I'll shut the hell up now. Just stoked

How much does a decent drum set cost out of curiosity?

Depends on what your looking for. I wouldn't even start with a new kit for learning or just starting out. You can find really good deals for $500.

Wrong, buddy rich could drum circles around most drummers.

Speaking of more modern drummers. Anyone a fan of Tony Royster Jr. That guy blows my mind every time I see him play. He's one of the current greatest drummers for sure

Right Now I'm rocking a vintage Maxwin by Pearl with an 18" Sabian Vault Crash and 22" Sabian Omni-Ride, as well as AA hats. Recently picked up a 3 piece Yamaha Rock Tour. 12,16,22 and a 24" Meinl Ride.

I'm just going to leave this here. Any guesses who's kit?

electric kits that make the less noise are Roland. Roland are the best anyways if you're getting one and you're a serious drummer (sound wise, feel wise...) but they're expensive.

If you just want an electric kit to bang on every now and then go for the cheapest yamahas: quite cheap (like 500$ for a basic 3tom kit), fairly gd feel and sounds (keep in mind they do make some noise, so if you're in a apartment, don't play at 2 in the morning, if you're in a house play that shit all night long). Don't fucking go with alesis tho, it's like 50$ cheaper and lasts like a year max, shitty sounds, shitty pads, just go with yamaha.

If you live in a house and want both an acoustic to play in the day and electric at night, they exist, but imo they suck (they're a bad electric and a bad acoustic combined, so might as well get a good of one for the same price). I know mapex and pearl make them. If you want an optional soundless kit just get an acoustic and buy some pads to put on (can't remember who, but a company makes them for literally all size of drum parts). It's great for practising when you don't want to wake up the whole town.

My dilemma has always been that I'm serious but poor. That said I actually was trying to sell my kit pring 2014 for $ for a trip to NZ, and was looking into getting a roland when I came back.

Yeah Alesis blows. That said I got a DM8 off CL for 375 that only had a few problems, and I fixed a couple of them. I don't like the feel of the pads, but it's decent enough. It's not that quite either but whatever. It was that or nothing at that point.

Probably going to upgrade in the next year. I'm really trying to save money, so splurging too much is tough for me, that said I really do love to play, and I'm obviously never going to stop since I've been doing it my whole life. The electronics aspect scares me a bit. Like if I drop some real $ and then something goes wrong. But roland makes some good products.

Yeah there are a couple companies that make pads I think. You can get them for every drum size, the cymbals, the kick, everything. I was going to do that as I can feel it all in my head pretty well when playing but I figured if I was going to have pads on my drums, I might as well get a cheap e kit. Worst case if it breaks I just have a rack of practice pads.

Also looking at some more high end acoustic kits. Maybe not "high end" really but still kind of. Especially compared to what I'm on.

I can't believe I played for so many years and until 2 years ago still had this really really shitty kit. I mean, sometimes you're just on a budget. I didn't get into the ski industry to get rich, and I have to keep my $ spending reasonable to survive. That said I want some new shit. If I get a new E kit I'm probably going to ball out a bit.
