Drumline

I just got done with drumline tryouts, and it feels real good. I was in pit last year, but I was only a sophomore and we've got a huge section. This year I'm going for quads and I just kicked my audition's ASS.

Anyone else have drumline stuff going on right now?

yeah i play quadzzzz for my line. we just started gettin into the season. just got the book and learnin the drill pretty soon. we do summer shows so its a little diffierent but its fun as hell. best drumline in the state of Minnesota for the past 6 years! and nothin is going to change this year

I did spring marching band cause it was fun and only like 3 weeks. Didn't have to go through a whole shit ton of dumb practices like drum corps or fall marching band. 3 weeks, practices, memorized the shit did a few parades and it was done.

I got to play a $2000 + rack of drums though. And was able to borrow them and rock them out at my house whenever. I wish I owned some. I'd love to rock them out again

I play snare on the University of Washington drumline. I might be going out for troopers or cascades next summer too if I bail on a bike trip I'm planning. I teach a few highschools in the area, and I'm teaching percussion for the all city marching band this summer here in Seattle. UW auditioned on Saturday, I did good, and absolutely killed one of my solo audition pieces. Definitely pleased with my audition in comparison with last year.
Heres our winterline show, pardon the dirt, its a bitch to play along with a track in a building like that. Everything echos so much more than in a stadium.

^I've actually gotten the opportunity to see that Blast show live, and it was just incredible.

I've been out of HS for 8 years now, but I was in marching/field show bands all the way through high school. Although, I was trombone, and not drumline. We were actually the most successful marching band in the history of Wisconsin. I do miss it a lot, and band trips were some of the most memorable times of high school.

My brother was drumline though, and now goes to school for music. He actually has some published music, and helps write the music and design the show for my old high school.

We always used mallets for the tenors. In that video it looked like they were using normal marching snare sticks.

Then again its hard to see., but if they are is there some advantage to that? I just did marching band for the little bullshit 3 week thing just to play a sick rack of drums and not have to really put in much commitment. Never did fall band, drumline or anything like that

Mallets are just another texture. They are heavier so they put out more sound, and they also put out more ring. in some situations they're better than sticks, but generally we prefer sticks. All a matter of preference.

Bump because I filmed some in the lots, and some cadets rehearsal. They tracked around playing the same two measure chunk for four hours. It was incredible. I'm all for tracking and reps, but doing the same chunk for four hours is slightly intimidating.

First off we have Blue Knights playing some classic Square Push

Next we have some fine cadets pit ladies being epic.

Texas revolution snares being completely bad ass

haha wow... I marched Oregon Crusaders 02'? Our high school center snare is/was center for cadets (alex gross, look him up) for awhile... Shits actually really gay but super fun.

inb4 holy thread resurrection batman....but you say the most successful marching band in the history of Wisconsin...which band would that be because i play for a highschool in wisco too

just saw dci tour of champions at giants stadium and santa clara vanguard stayed at our school. it was raining but those guys are crazy good.

and our band camp is next week

the main character had some major attitude problems, but damn he could smack them drums. fuck learning how to read music, he jus memorized that shit. nick cannon's a real badass

I heard that if your marginally attractive and join band, you get to slay massive amounts of poon. Can this be confirmed or denied?

This is true. Not going to go further into detail because I don't want to sound full of myself.

I know it seems lame to everyone else, but marching band is and awesome thing to be a part of (and no, I'm not a nerd)

Bitches wanna suck my gock.

I did spring marching band once in hs. They had an intense band the rest of the year but I didn't want to deal with all the bullshit. Spring was 3 weeks and done. Memorize 3 pieces and cadence, do 4 or 5 parades then done. I must say I enjoyed raging the fuck out of the tenors.

Brought the rack home a few times and had a jam sesh with some friends. Wish I could mount one of those next to my kick for future jam seshes.

oh sweet...just curious! we've had this arch rival called the waukesha northstars for years since 2005 but i think we might just beat them this year...band camp just ended here and the show's looking pretty good

Cumberland took first in the state again this year. Along with a couple captions. My brother wrote the drill for the show. Pretty damn cool.
