Drugs.... cool vs. not cool

People need to better educate themselves about substances before they use them. Understanding how a drug works in your brain and the rest of your body determines whether or not it's a substance I want to put into my body and I think if more people were aware of how certain substances work and the results of long-term use, they'd adjust their preferences. I'm not an advocate of anything besides education. People choose to drink and there's usually very little social recourse as a result of that choice alone and considering how much more physical damage alcohol is capable of than many recreational substances, I think people ought to base their view of these substances not on their legal status, but rather by what they actually do to you. Someone planning to take a dose or two of MDMA is going to do less damage to their brains than someone choosing to spend the night drinking... someone taking a 10 strip of LSD isn't going to do any physical damage to their brain or body at all and they'll likely have one of the most profound, moving experiences of their life. DMT is illegal, yet it's made in our brains and in every living thing on Earth... that's senseless. Narcotic painkillers, though, are easily accessible.... doctors practically shove them down your throat as soon as you complain of back pain. I know countless people who have or had problems with painkillers, including myself. The same can be true with psychedelics, but at a profoundly reduced rate. You need to understand what you're doing to your body.

weed, coffee, booze and the occasional smoke/dip is pretty much it for me.

None of it is good for you, but i'm pretty sure shit like mcdonalds and stress and being lazy is just as bad if not worse.

everything in moderation

"i dont do drugs, i just smoke weed."-Dave Chappelle
but seriously, if it natural, its fine. weed, salvia, shrooms, and maybe toads if youre into that shit.

The only drug i take is alcohol, tastes good (well beer does) and makes all social functions better imo.

used to do weed for a little but i'm over it now, last time i blazed was 4:20. just doesn't do anything for me.

and i dont remember the last time i took aspirin or anything like that, just hate all that pharmaceutical medicine shit.

COOL. Experimenting with drugs is totally normal. Noone should be judged for experimenting. (not saying anyone is)... You learn alot about yourself when ur high, drunk, trippin. But like many of you have said, once you get to a certain point it just isnt an event anymore. ur sittin around high for no fuckin reason.... its not a bad thing, it just makes you realize that there is more to life then being in an altered state of mind. drugs are like a highlighter they can make the story more colorful but they dont write the book. the biggest problem with drugs is that they can become the story instead of just making the story better. its really hard to find the point were they stop becoming the highlighter and become the only substance. hence the stereotypical pothead. just keep em in perspective. if people think youve got a problem then u probobly do

I totally agree with you that people need to educate themselves more on what they're taking. I see so many kids doing shit without doing ANY research, like taking shrooms for the first time at parties or at friends houses with nosy parents and end up having bad trips because they are paranoid and overwhelmed. there are so many details that should be taken into account when you're thinking of doing drugs. You need to be thinking about allergic reactions, interactions with other drugs, who youre going to take them with, where youre going to take them. I just dont see why people dont just do some research, you can greatly increase your chances of a good, safe experience by it.
I dont agree with alcohol being worse for you than E, especially taking into account the shit it is often cut with. I know there are studies which say that it is not as bad, but there are a lot of factors. Even pure MDMA is far from harmless. I just dont want people to read that post and start thinking, "hey E isnt as bad for you as alcohol lets try it out!" If you do E on a regular basis, it will fuck up your brain, just like alcohol. Also, theres no evidence that DMT is produced in the brain, just putting it out there.

moderation is key. last year I went on a weed binge, like smoking every day. I loved doing it then, but then one day, I realized I didn't remember 4 whole months of my life. It was quite an eye opener. I've cut down a lot since then, like once or twice every month, but there isn't even a point for that anymore. I got bored with weed.

maybe its just me, but weed always makes me forget stuff, and with alcohol(unless I've had way to much)I always remember.

If you're implying I should think out of the box for once. No. Sorry. I don't have the time in between ski training and school work to "blaze a spliff up".

hahahahahaha.. love this concept.. makes perfect sense.. but i must admit i think i have caught the dragon quite a few times..

ski training?

what do you train for, just curious

and it takes about 1-10 minutes to get high

i highly doubt your schedule is so packed that you dont have that amount of time

just say you dont want to...

or admit your a ☐

freeride/park/all mountain for a team. They notice the slightest sign of drug use, and I am fucked. They are cool with anything else besides booze and drugs.

I experimented with drugs in order to find out more about myself, to escape reality, and basically share crazy experiences with friends. I have always been a creative person with a wonderful imagination. The things drugs taught me is that no matter what you think of sober, things you can think about or experience on drugs is on a whole other level. For me, psychedelic mushrooms opened that realm up. I felt that before I tried them, I knew everything. I was arrogant and opinionated. After shrooms rocked my world I took a step back and said "woah". I realized I knew nothing of the world, or my preconceptions about what we are as humans, organic life...... special. Understanding first hand how a change in brain chemistry affects your perception and your senses. Synesthesia where taste can become touch which can become sound. The human brain is extremely powerful, yet it is suppressed by logic and fear. Experiencing randomness and irrational thinking with no boundaries or preconceptions is the territory where drugs can bring you, and at times I never been more amazed or frightened at the places I've been. I feel that I understand life at a deeper level.
If you are going to do any, do it because you want to. If you don't, I respect your decision and I would expect that you should respect mine, and also try to understand where my intent came from.

What is this "else" you speak of, rape, murder? I know more people with fucked up personalities, brains, whatever, that are either completely sober don't do anything (or raging alcoholics) that cause more damage than anyone on drugs, to themselves and others around them. I don't understand why someone doing drugs automatically turns them into some kind of enigma. Live a little.

Well of course they aren't OK with me and the many other team members doing illegal things. I wasn't saying that someone who does drugs is automatically a bad person with a fucked up brain. Jesus christ. 2nd time you people misread my posts in this thread.

Just wondering.... so hypothetically they would be just "OK" if you hit your girlfriend, stole from your friends, or being dishonest, but completely AGAINST taking a puff off a joint? Do they think it's a mortal crime versus things far worse? Just pointing out that they may be hypocrites. What's really worse here?

so you're throwing away any chance to experiment in your youth for a ski team? what if you dont go pro? next time i drop acid im gonna think about how much your life sucks.

Hahaha. Thanks for the chuckle. My life does not in fact "Suck". I do plan on going pro. Maybe AM. It would be cool either way. I live in SLC. I take online classes so I can ski almost everyday. That doesn't seem like a life that falls into the "suck" category.

Again. I don't have a problem with weed and its users. I just don't have interest in it. I didn't know since someone doesn't smoke weed that they are a square and they live a suckish life.

does having no friends (from what i've heard from people on tinychat that know you) fall into the "suck" category?

Not really. I do in fact friends in real life that I do occasionally hang out with once every week or so. Most of those people on there I do know in real life and I have hungout/skied with them more than once. Your chirps are useless unless they have some sort of factual information.

word. i'm not always sober, but when i am i'm not like "oh fuck my life sucks i should get high right now." even when i'm bored.

personally, i fucking love doing drugs, but i also fucking love skiing, and when i'm not doing one of those things i'm not gonna be like "oh fuck i'm not skiing and i'm sober i better kill myself."

i'm pretty sure i can live without either, but i can't say the same for someone who's addicted,

haha i knew it

but i did not know that you were actually good at skiing/think you can become a pro

your life is too serious

get friends

ski for fun

I do ski for fun. I enjoy a little bit of competition every now and then. Placing top 20 in a field of 60 competitors is a real self esteem booster.

Sorry if my life seems a bit to serious. I'm really not a up tight person if you met me. People have told me I am a very down to earth and out going person. So I guess thats how I appear to others. No friends comments are old. Try harder.

Anyone who posts anything argumentative below this is a fuck stain.
Let's try and make this thread the exception rather than the rule of NSG so that it WONT turn into a big shit storm/self justification fest.... If It's not that already.

right because arguments are bad. fuck off weirdo, if you don't like arguments then maybe you should go live in a perfect world where everyone agrees and the 'quote reply' button exists only to say that you agree with the other person.

a thoughtful discussion is happening here (i haven't agreed with what anyone's said yet) and even though i haven't contributed i'd still like to read some of it.
