I remember back when i went to high school everyone brought weed to school and no one gave a fuck.
 
ummmm.... put it this way. when you are at school the faculty pretty much becomes your legal guardian. if your mom asked a police officer to come and search your room... whether or not there was probable cause, then its by all means legal. if you are 18 and living at home its the SAME THING.

you are at school, they can do whatever the fuck they want. even if it is YOUR BAG. when you are at school, it becomes THEIR bag.

the Po Po didnt even search me it was the assistant principle and the disciplinarian. if they found anything then it would go to the cops, and yes they have the right to search me, probable cause. and its a school, they have there own rights
 
It's because the American public school system is no longer based on meeting the education needs of our youth, but rather punishing them as frequently as possible to prepare them for a life in prison while simultaneously fast-tracking the small percentage of intellectuals off to ivy league educations and overlooking their behavior because they have potential for the future. Granted many of those victims of frequent punishment and disciplinary prejudice quite fully deserve it for being straight up inbred fucks, however a large percentage certainly does not.
 
theres a gray area when it comes down to it. should they be able to search your bag, no, but can they, yea. they can always say they were doing "random" searches to further protect their school.

as for a case... i believe New Jersey vs. TLO was a big issue about this shit
 
It depends on whether it is a public or private school. When you go to a private school you pretty much forfeit all of your rights. If your in a public school you have rights and it gets sticky as to whether or not your shit can be searched or opened.
 
yup, thats how they get away with it. "we searched his bags because ummmmm..........we heard he had a gun in it.....?" Doesn't matter if they have a reason or not, because not many people are going to argue against taking actions to keep schools safer, whether or not they really are setting out to do that.
 
In the real world the cops need "Probable Cause", when your in school all they need is "reasonable Suspcicion" which the school can define as anything they want, that's how schools rarely get hit with lawsuits over this.
 
Those dogs are ridiculously smart. Our K-9 enforcement team came to my high school to put on a demonstration of what the dogs do and it was unreal.

They took 1 q-tip and dragged it thru a "substance" then placed it into a backpack and hid it in the gym. Instantly the dog started freaking out before they opened the doors. The doors flew open, the dog ran in, and within like 20 seconds he found the backpack.
 
my highschool told me we had no rights once we stepped inside. they could do anything they wanted to us. i dont think we ever had dogs come while i was in highschool though
 
I'm pretty sure its because it represents illegal search and seizure since they have no probable cause to be searching your locker in the first place. I actually live in ottawa too and none of my schools have ever had drug dogs.
 
to search a locker they don't need probable cause, as they own it and graciously allow you to use it. However, your bag is in there, which is where it becomes questionable. unless its somehow different in canada

most schools require you to pretty much sign your rights away as long as your in school.... so just dont bring drugs to school, easy as that. what the fuck would you need them for anyways? unless your stupid enough to smoke in a bathroom or something
 
everyone saying their schools never did these searches, do you guys all go to rich private schools in the suburbs or something? like that shit went down at my schools since 7th grade, i thought every single school had to do it, how come yours dont??

Im in Ottawa too. Ive heard like 5 storys on why they don't search them anymore but im not sure if any of them are true.
 
if my school ever wanted to search my bag i wouldnt let them. they can fucking expel me, but they arent searching through my personal belongings without a fucking warrent. they can search my locker, i dont care about that becuase its school property. i dont even have anything in my locker so i have no need to worry.

in your last statement what you are saying is that any school could take off all your clothes if they wanted to? no, its not how it works. if i bought my stuff with my own money it becomes mine, i own it. when i step into a school it doesnt become there stuff. thats fucking retarded.

i go to a private high school, and they for sure do whatever they damn well please, they bring these people in to sweep parking lots classrooms, lockers, whatever. we get a mandatory expulsion if we dont allow them in our cars, my friend just a few days ago got 30$ worth of tylenol, his sisters kidney medicine, and his own inhaler taken away from him because of "suspicion"... they come randomly without even informing our principle or head of school.. another friend got a 5 day suspension just because the dog SMELLED something in his car, nothing found or anything.. they use labradors and not german shepherds which i thought was weird.

Its not so much about the dogs as the schools right to search any of their students. by coming to school, you agree to play by their rules. their dress code...censored speech, censored webpages, any policy. When you are on their property, they have the right to search you on any grounds to ensure the safety of the student body. nice use of big words and really. good try being intelligent on newschoolers but its just not cutting it.
 
Woozy you can use all your great big words but its not going to change the fact that if a school district wants to search your locker, your bag, your person they will. The only thing you can do is keep your mouth shut and get a good lawyer or run like hell. What Im arguing is that our constitutional rights are heavily restricted in schools. I dont really know what your trying to prove but I am right in that our rights are greatly limited when we walk onto school property. keep going tho seriously...im really interested
