Dropping out of College

You still live at home so you don't really know what the world is like yet. The real world costs money, and without money, life in the real world can be a major bitch.
People can say what they want about useless degrees but when it comes down to it a degree is never completely worthless (especially if your parents are buying). 99..9% of the time your going to look better applying for a job if you have any post secondary not just high school.
 
there is no doubt that completing college will drastically improve your finances in the future, but you do what you have to do, essentially.

if you honestly can't fathom completing a couple more years out of your very long life to make MUCH more money in the future, and probably improve your general happiness, it isn't worth it. you can do just fine not going to college.

in hindsight, however, you'll likely find that doing 3 more years of college is a lot easier than being broke, unhappy, and living in a shithole for 50 years.
 
This is true. First off, apologies to the other guy, it was late and I couldn't fall asleep and therefore I was pretty pissed off at the world.

I honestly believe college is for anyone with foresight. Part of that foresight is recognizing you should actually work hard while in college. The job market is inundated with now worthless mediocre degrees, but that's no reason to give up on the system. Join the honors program, pick up a rare, yet relevant minor (e.g. Chinese). You get in what you put out.

Don't be that obnoxious sorority girl surfing for four years on daddy's money, but you can have so much fun while you're here as well.
 
thats because you're friends are fucking losers with no motivation and initiative which is probably why they decided to take a year off in the first place.

i took a year off from school and,

spent a summer in banff exploring the park

heli-skiied on my days off in the winter at mike wiegele

fished tuna in the middle of the pacific for the 09 summer

helped build a house with a family legendary in the vancouver canucks hockey org. lindens with an invite from them to return working for them whenever i want

now i'm back home waiting to start school in sept, but i am going to

rebuild the 1/2 bathroom in my house

start two internet e-commerce sites with the help of my dad, which is going to give me the independence to live and travel any where in the world i want, because all i need is a computer and internet connection to do my business.

take the sailboat around geogian bay.

taking a year off was the best decision of my life. the experiences are all out there. you just got to go out and grab it. or just sit like a dope at home and wallow in your self pity.

 
Don't try to justify your life through me kid. Just saying from my own personal experience. I am sure my buddy would be heli skiing right now if he had the cash.

And I bet it is nice to come from a family with money.
 
Whatever dood, I don't know too may heli skier dish washers but if you made it work props to you.

 
my dad dropped out of college his freshman year and ended up starting his own business and becoming pretty well off, but when i talk to him about it he says he regrets it so much and that he feels like he won the lottery hes so lucky. he told me about when he dropped out, the next few years were absolutely miserable. he would struggle for everything he needed and was so poor. trust me dude, it really isnt worth dropping out. think about it this way, you could drop out now and struggle really bad for the next few years, or you could work hard in school and be MUCH better off after. and being a student isnt really hard at all, i mean you still get to party on weekends and shit
 
its probably one of the worst ideas you have ever had not that i know you stick it out and work on a way to make it more enjoyable that may actually be a good field to get into right now what with all the craziness of going green and whatever you know just try to make it work good luck
 
Some of these people don't know anything. Your life is what you make it. Having a college degree doesn't determine your success. Ye on a job a degree might make you look better, but there's other things you could have done with that 20k+ and 4 years. Maybe getting some job training in a specific area. Putting it into a down payment on a house.

I'm not saying college is the wrong path, because there are plenty of successful people that come out of there. The thing is, there are also plenty of successful people without degrees. A college degree doesn't determine your future, you do.

Figure out what you want to do, and do it. Don't listen to any idiot that say you have to stay in school or you should def drop out.
 
take less classes. i failed some classes my first semester because it was way too much for me.
 
The question is not what type of person you are or what you make of your life.

The question is should you have a college degree.

A "lazy cocksucker" with a college degree in poli-sci is a lot better off than a LC with no degree at all.

For every successful person that did not go to college I can show you 10k that are failures.

And the world is changing, college proves to employers that you can learn, I know abortinator always tries to justify his decision (or inability) to go to college but the truth is you will always be better off with a college degree.

(By college degree I mean actual degree, if it is easier than high school then it is not a degree.)
 
I guess in my analogy success is the difference between being able to support yourself and living off welfare. So really failure and mediocrity. But that is the American way, I mean most people have giant celebrations for graduating from high school, a celebration of mediocrity. But you don't have to be rich to be truly successful in my book, although it helps a lot, because like it or not people paid based on their worth.
 
what??? while i agree that college is not for everyone, i think it's pretty dumb to say straight up "Don't go to college, it's a waste of time." If someone wants a profession that requires credentials beyond a high school education, then they should go to school and get that degree.

It's going to be so hard just jumping right back into classes after a few years off.
I'd say just try to stick it out or find a new major that will have you hooked on going to class and learning. I know it sounds nerdy, but you have to like what your doing for it to be worth it.
