alright so im planning to put this setup in the flat part of my backyard

i have a jump about 1 foot tall

planning to make the rails about 20 feet

how tall should the drop in be and what degree angle?

thanks

mine is 5 feet tall and has an 8 foot ramp and with a slight incline i can hit a 12 foot table in my backyard....im not sure if it were on a flat part of your yard if that would give you enough speed for a 20 ft rail, so maybe make it 6 feet tall with a 9 foot slope? the 5 foot with 8 foot ramp is pretty much the standard size ramp, so if you make it to scale, just bigger, the ramp's angle should be fine

Only thing about trying to make it nine feet is deciding what you're gonna make it out of, because as i'm sure you well know, plywood comes in 8 foot long sections. I'm building one this summer for a 16 foot box and planning on making it 6 feet high by 8 feet long, just some in head analysis says it should work out ok. Although, our box will be in two pieces so the first 8 should be easy, not sure bout the last 8.

wow..i didnt even think of that....good catch. If it was bigger than an 8 foot ramp, you could cut the extra length from another 2x4, then connect it to the 8 foot long piece with hinges or something so it is somewhat foldable

^^anything over 8 feet will be fine....ull have to be pretty crafty to make it work though because 2x4s usually only come in 8 ft lengths...if your lucky you might be able to find a 10 ft 2x4 at someplace like lowes....ive seen them there before. Just DONT make it an 8 foot ramp. That will be way too steep and your probability of eating shit will go way up....i would make it either 9 or 10 feet

has anyone built a kink ramp for a smoother transition and maby allowing a steeper drop in

if you dont get the pic i can make a better one

I made a drop-in this season for my small rails, just flat normal ramp...
but i have a big 20ft shotgun 3ft high at my chalet, and i need to build a bigger better ramp, so i think i'm going to do exactly that.
i'll let you know how it works out.

i also am trying to decide.

one 3ft tall, 10ft rail. the drop in will be about 10ft away. anyone got opinions on hight and length of the ramp?

this is precisely what I am doing this summer. If your 8' drop in is sturdy and your shallower section is sturdy there should be no problem. As soon as the snow melts in my back yard I will build this sucker and let u know how it goes. I found that in the winter you really had to be on it with the tranny and actually built it up with some snow to make it smoother...so in the summer an 8 footer could be tough with out making it a little shallower.

hope that helps.

ps I'm waiting on your plans and where you got your hdpe...you can pm me or email

thanks a bunch

the downside of that ramp is that its harder to get back to the top without taking off your skis, which after an hour or so becomes a huge hassle
