Try it out and post results.  It never hurts to test out a new surface.  A little while ago someone had good results with some sort of pool cover, but couldn't figure out who made it or where you can get it.  Don't forget to try both sides.  My bet is that the bottom side which has the little spikes to keep it from slipping on carpet, will actually work better than the smooth side.
The issues are that anything that is a really slick plastic like surface like HDPE, is usually too slick to get an edge on.  You can slide on it, but it's really tough to get bite on to create spins.
Stuff that you can get bite on like turf, is usually too slow by itself to use as a sliding surface, unless you either add tons of soap and water or/and minimize the area of contact between the ski and the surface.  That means basically that creating a ladder style drop in with the rungs covered in turf will slide tons better that a ramp style drop in because there is less friction.
