Hey Guys,

I just got my L and unfortunately we do not have an automatic transmission in either of our cars so i am forced to learn on a standard. I'm am at the stage now that i can just drive all around town but not really well. Does any one have any little driving tips that might help me along the way and make it a little easier on learning on a standard, thanx guys.

just practicing knowing where the clutch starts to catch will save you when to need to drive on hills.. learn to heel-toe eventually too and downshifting will be super smooth -- it's hard though.

//heel-toeing requires keeping half your foot on the break and rolling the other half onto the gas pedal to keep the revs matched and a smoother downshift.

If you're having trouble on hills and your car has a handbrake, hold the handbrake on while letting the clutch out (slowly mind you) and when it catches, release the handbrake so you don't roll back.

It's not bad. I learned to drive on 3 standard cars, no autos in the household for the first year and a half of driving.

Evan do you mean "Manual"? Or are you talking about some spanish guy? I'm confused about that.

Manual is the way to go. You'll get to know your car much better. Listen to the engine, it will tell you when you're doing something wrong. I've been driving mine for 5 months now and I don't even realize i'm driving it. You'll learn to love it. Also, match revs, don't just drop the clutch.

i have been driving a stick for 6 months and yesterday i put it into reverse while still moving, i had the cluctch down and i totally forgot. i still make mistakes, there arnt really any things you can do to get better except drive alot. once you get it they are fun as hell

i learned to steer and brake and stuff on an automatic, then learned on a manual

just use the ball of your foot man, and take your time to shift. It is not a race, the more time you take, the smoother it is, unless your revs are too low.

Matman10: Man lat you had that 7 down but you binder poped off

Laterails:Yeah i think they aren't adjusted, or it could be the fact that all that is holding them together is one of my pubes

i learned on a 4 wheeler so the first time i did it in a car i did fine

i like the fed-ex driver cause hes' a drug dealer and he don't even know it."

i just learned standard the other day and its def more fun than automatic after u get the hang of it. Just get used to letting out the clutch slowly. I only stalled twice and thats because i switched into third by accident instead of first and the other time i popped the clutch
