I am at that turning point in my life where I am trying to obtain ultimate freedom in the form of a drivers license. I have attempted once but failed due to nerves (having a morbidly obese snarky man grade your driving is kinda nerve racking) and my inability to parallel park. How many times did it take you guys? Any tips? Funny Storyies?
 
I got lucky, my instructor was super chill. Right as I was pulling out of the drive-way of the DMV she asked "So what do you like to do?"... I said "skiing". She got excited and said "I love skiing!". By that point I knew I had basically passed the test already and I was calm the whole time. I also didn't have to parallel park.

Its really nothing to worry about if you fail, unless you start failing as much as spongebob. Then you better get your shit together.
 
Took it almost a year after I was scheduled to take it because of a series of mishaps including a girl totaling our only drivers ed car. took a group "courtesy" test and I was the second to last person.

Drove like a grandma but did everything right. Eventually had a conversation with my instructor and the chaperone or whatever you call him in the back. My parallel park was butchered Went in too deep with the wheel straight and ended up having the curbside cone near-centered in my car (and I'm decent at parallel parking) however I didn't fail because of technicalities.

there was no curb to make contact with, and the cones weren't set up on the edge of the road so I technically never crossed out of the spot.

I cheated the system and won

BE CONFIDENT! You don't get a whole lot of time to actually showcase how well you can drive. I've been told that the testers look a lot at how comfortable and confident you seem behind the wheel, and for my case, that seemed to be true.

Not that funny but a good friend of mine crashed on his road test.
 
Here we have 3 levels. First is a written test, passed no problem. Second is a driving test, passed no problem, third is another driving test to get your full license. First time I went to take it the horn just happened to not want to work so that counted as a fail and I had to pay full price. Second time I turned right just after the light turned yellow and the instructor failed me for it. Wrote in huge letters on the sheet "RAN AMBER LIGHT". It was complete BS since first, that is totally 100% a-OK to do and a driving test should reflect the real rules of the road, and second I was already so close to the intersection that if I had actually tried to stop in time I would have had to slam on the brakes and I'd still be over the stop line. The 3rd time I was scheduled for my test and the day I was supposed to take it the drive instructors in the province all went on strike. 4th try I got it.

From what I gather they fail as many people as they can since every fail means another $60 bucks or whatever it is spent on them. So they'll fail you for the most petty reason just cause they can.
 
First time; however, 2 of my cousins had to take theirs 3 times each. Just breath, the stuff they grade for while necessary to pass is rather redundant in the real world. Just exaggerate everything and stay calm. As for parking, if you think you are going to hit the cones, stop and ask if you can opt out. They will knock some points off but that is minor compared to actually hitting the cone. Also try to make a good impression, the better they like you the more likely they will go easy on you.
 
Passed first time 7 months ago. The only thing I failed on was turning onto a 4 lane one way (not even possible to encounter) and turned into the second lane and not the closest
 
I need to take drivers ed.... especially if im going to mob with a car over loaded with babes food and skis. Oh my dreams
 
I never had to parallel park to pass my regular driving test, but I did have to parallel park a tractor trailer to get my Class A CDL. That was fun haha just takes a lot of practice.

Just take it easy man and relax. Practice a bunch before hand until you have it down, then the test will be no sweat.
 
Yay for being an old man. In IL when I was 15, if you passed the class and behind the wheel in HS with an A, you were exempt for having to take the driving test at the DMV. I just walked in, gave em my info, got a pic taken and walked out feeling like a man!
 
I had a super chill dude, drove around a little part of the city which I did in drivers ed before and it took less than 10 minutes but I failed the reverse parking part. Thankfully I was a in our truck so parallel parking wasn't much of an option. Just be calm and make sure to do all the proper things.
 
Took me 15 months to get ready. Failed the first due to not stopping correctly. Failed 2 more times due to parallel parking. 4th time I messed up parking again, and the guy tried to fail me and I literally told him no and did it again anyway. He passed me.

Its easy just don't over think it.

I was hungover as fuck for mine since the Patriots won their first super bowl the night before. I passed.
 
I passed first time. He could have failed me for speeding a block from the end but he said he didn't have the heart to do that after a perfect test, so he gave me 5 points off for driving too fast for road conditions.
 
lol at people who fail the driving test, literally one of the easiest things ive ever done.
 
Never took drivers ed or anything but had a lot of experience when I went. The guy I had was a complete asshole and yelled at me after 30 seconds for going like 25mph where there was no speed posted (where I live the speed limit is 30 when not posted). He told me the limit was 10 so I ended up going 5 for the rest of the 20 minutes. Still passed though because I didn't do anything wrong.
 
my first time taking the driving test my dad's e brake didnt work and I almost failed, but the nice lady at the front desk of the dmv let me use her car. I was pretty damn stoked and got a 95

I did that, hit the curb and almost another car trying to parallel park, and it took me forever to try and back into a space. The examiner told me that she would pass me but only if I promised to practice off the road before I actually used it.

And the first time I ever drove on a road and not in a parking lot was the day before my test and I hit and knocked over a stop sign.

I Took it and got parked perfectly, 0 points off, go to the place on a sunday and practice parking if your bad!! The rest of the driving part is easy as pie
 
Failed first time, I think I drove pretty perfect until the last roundabout where my focus had gone from concentrating on the road to thinking this went better than expected and then I fucked up. Pretty shitty start to my 18th birthday. Passed easily next time though and I don't think I got any complains that time.
 
I lost 2 points for looking before I signal to change lanes. It was the city's first snowstorm, at 9, in a busy and tight area around the end of rush hour. So all and all, its not bad if you have no bad lucks.
 
My only deduction was for not pulling up close enough to a white line, balls!!

That was in a parking lot and I spent a little bit of time in that same parking lot practicing the basics as the lines were painted

Outside of that it's just getting out there and driving

Do you get a learners permit allowing you to drive with a license driver? I would hope so...
 
I was lucky in IL of you get a B or higher in the classroom for drivers Ed then your Behind the wheel instructor administer the test

I ended up lucking out with the instructor. She was probably like 4 feet tall, kinda looked like professor umbridge from harry potter. i was in a chevy tahoe taking the test and she had to climb up into the car and she fiddled with the seat for probably like 10 minutes while im sitting there ready to go. She had it maxed out as high as it would go, and as close to the dash as she could get it. I think i did so well because she probably couldn't see the road from her seat. I wanted to offer her a book to sit on but she didn't look too pleased about the whole situation.

No, just a written portion. It's pretty easy if you take a few online tests before you go in to the DMV.
 
I passed first time and honestly if you can't pass it or are anywhere close you should not be driving. Not trying to be a dick but driving is a big responsibility and the drive test is INCREDIBLY EASY COMPARED TO REAL DRIVING. Only way to get better is practice but be careful.
 
Never had to take one at the DMV. in IL if you do well enough in the class portion then the behind the wheel instructor can administer the driving test. And you just show them your paperwork at the DMV when you turn 16.
 
I had a super chill test lady. She didn't dock me for anything I totally hit the curb twice even ran a stop sign lol.
