Drinking age 18 maybe?..

if the driving age was raised, then people at the age of 18 would suck at driving too because of lack of experience.

Australia you can learn to drive at 16, and drink at 18

The issue could be that if people are drinking when they are 18, then people who are 16-17 get drinks from their friends..

Thats probably what would happen if the drinking age was lowered in the US..i still find it ridiculous that you can fly a plane, get a hunting license, vote, serve in the military etc - all at or before the age of 18 - yet you can't sit in a bar and have a beer until you are 21

we'd have to do a better job of teaching the youth about drinking responsibly. All thats really ever said is, "don't do it, but if you do, then don't drive a car." Which isn't bad advice, but someone should be there saying, "don't pound 6 doubles in 10 minutes, it doesn't make you cool to do that." In the eyes of the previous generation, I can see why they think there would be no benefit to changing the law. There probably wouldn't be. Probably statistics about alcoholism, or alcohol related deaths would go way up. I feel like, kids need to learn how to drink in secrecy in order to keep them in check while they are young and learning. It's prime training ground for learning how to handle yourself drunk.

The drinking age should not be lowered. Too many college students would be much more unresponsible than they already are. It would cause harm to so many more people, many of them innocent. In my opinion an 18 year old is not ready to consume alcohol.

i agree that the "cool" factor of it would go down so much. Now it takes at least some effort to drink underage which makes it feel rewarding, which really makes no sense to me, but whatever. If lowered, I think for maybe the first few years it would be a big problem as kids get used to the change and would go out and buy/drink just because they can, but after awhile, the novelty of that would die off.

Myself, I'm a French-American, and I've always been allowed to drink at least a little bit of wine etc over there for as long as i can remember. It does have an effect. I was taught to drink by people who respect and enjoy the drink, so it rubbed off on me and i'd rather just enjoy maybe one or two than have a shitload, but not remember any of it.

But I don't know, thats just me, I have no desire to just get completely drunk, and i don't really get why most people my age do.
