Drilling skis for mounting

How powerful of a drill do you need to drill the mounting holes in a ski. I am asking because I have to design a hand-held power tool for my industrial design studio, and I want to combine a plunge router and a drill to make a tool that will quickly, easily and safely drill pilot holes at 90 degrees. It will work for any type of hole, but my initial inspiration was skis so I have to make sure it works for them. Thanks for the help.

Not planning on mounting my skis, I just need to know ho powerful of a motor I need to design my drill around.

to drill the skis any drill will work. you need a certain bit to properly drill them thought. it controls the depth.

Yeah, to drill and mount your own stuff you usually need a jig,(unless you know the pattern for your bindings and feel comfortable measuring and free-handing it) a counter-sinking drill bit (the right size for the ski you're mounting), and possibly a tap. Any drill will work though, make sure the speed is turned down if you're going to free-hand it though, less chance of drilling through your bases.

University of Cincinnati. I'll be designing for Fisher-Price this summer, and I hope to get a co-op in France with Salomon later on (we send co-ops there pretty often.)

As for the recommendations on the drill bit, my tool is going to work like a plunge router. You will set the depth on the tool.
