DRIFTING

Drifting was filmed on March 4th, 2014 in the alpine bohemia called Aspen. Building from Aspen's influence on American counter-culture, Drifting sought to push the limits of ski-acting and abandon all notions of professional film production.

The skier is seen wearing an all-white outfit and shot in extreme flat light conditions, creating the effect of the skier floating, or Drifting. Charles "Chuck" Mumford (the actor) has the appropriate body type and training to safely perform the drift, while many professional skiers have avoided the drift due to the extreme tension placed on the skiers knees.

The American Medical Association as well as the United States Ski and Snowboard Association have come out strongly against Drifting as an unnecessarily dangerous and unstable body position for alpine skiing.

For once in my life I came into a thread and knew exactly what it was going to be about. Drifting isn't a fad, it's a way of life. Keep doing what you are doing OP, from your drifting brother in So Cal.

Hope I get the chance one day. Anyway, no hate to Chuck, but Wayne Wong was doing this back in the early 70's, in the bumps on 205 cm skis. Not the best pic, but I've seen old video of him ripping moguls in a full outrigger like this. I also think Billy Kidd was really good at doing it back in the day. Got to meet Billy and ski with him for a few days. Such an awesome experience. Never met Wayne.

I can actually drift on my skis by dropping my weight (can post the video), and the pain in his knees and fear that no one's looking at him means he's not in the heart zone that I want to be in.

There are videos from over 10 years ago of extreme ski carvers and how they ride the inside edge of their inside ski and to me are basically 1-trick ponies... and I doubt they (and Chuck) can do it holding a polecam... not so much because that's necessary, but because it showcases the ability and agility to be able to do it.

It all comes down to the design of the ski because that can and will determine style... ski companies (and skiers) are all too scared of having the ski styles of the day dictate their ski designs.

Anyhow, it was a quiet season for me, I'm preparing a heterosexuals' rollerblade t-shirt with accompanying crystal necklace (that covers the heart) for summer training and then hopefully something "cooler" for next winter.

Anyhow, thanks for posting the video -- my mind blew before I even watched it... I knew what to expect.. history repeating itself.
