Dream Team BS.

Got to agree with COSkier on one point: Guys and girls are going to respect solid skiing. It doesn't have to be tweaked-out triples, but it has to be solid.

For the most part I think everybody has liked the Katrina edits. She's got solid skill, good style. Sounds like she's involved. Shoot it well, get the shot you want before the cops get there and package it something watchable and it will probably be bananas. As much as some people on here hate on girls skiing I'm almost absolutely sure they'd love to see a great edit that shut them up.

Seriously? How can you see you won't look up to any guy skier with a comp in their resume? Literally every pro skier has competed in some kind of comp

I am stoked for you guys. Get out there and make it happen Brooke. Don't listen to these guys. Just cause girls skiing is behind men's doesn't mean shit. Be that game changer because I know that's who you are. Skiing street with you myself and watching you go for it is sick. These guys that are hating are so lame, I think they are one reason why women's skiing isn't progressing as fast as men's. Stoke starts progression. Not hate. Go get it Brooke! Show these guys what's up.

This thread has a lot of long posts. Comps are cool, not skiing comps is cool, women are cool, skiing is cool. Sounds like a lot of cool in one place.

Seriously though, I don't care too much for most urban but you all seem to be putting out some good stuff, so all power to yah.

So has Brooke.

She's not saying don't compete. She's just saying she wants to take a different path to make it in the ski industry and this is what she wants to do to achieve that.

Male or female, if someone makes it to the top without a competition phase, they have my respect. Can't think of a much harder road to take.

I'm addressing that she said this:

In fact, the ONLY guy skiers I look up to are the one's who KILL IT without a single comp on their resume.

That doesn't make any sense

dude tom doesn't hate women who freestyle ski, he just thinks they really aren't trying/thinks women free skiers are lame.

also, the urban idea sounds great! super stoked to see the girls getting after it! you guys rock!

well yeh that's why I said women's skiing not women or women skiers....

Actually, you are mistaking my annoyance with a sense of entitlement that too many girls in freeskiing have for a mysoginistic view of women's sport in general. I want way more females in freeskiing, be that in comps or riding for fun. I think that would benefit the level of skiing greatly and maybe push the girls to work half as hard as the guys do. But, as things stand, women's freesking is already subsidized almost entirely by the men's side of the sport be that backcountry or park. Look at the x games and how guys and girls get the same prize money despite the fact that there are 10 times as many guys working their asses off to get to that level for every girl. You seriously complain about entry fees? The prizes in girls comps are almost always paid by the guy's entry fees and there would be no girls comp at all if it wasn't for them men's. They are there so that the comp organizers don't look sexist by only fielding a mens competition. So be grateful that there is a route at all for you to be recognized when there are so few girls and the skiing is so mediocre.

The fact is that I don't even hate on all women's skiing. I think the top female competitors in the alpine and freestyle disciplines are fairly impressive athletes (Vonn, Reisch, Kearney and countless others rip) and girls in other physically similar sports like gymnastics can be very impressive, so I don't believe the limiting factor for girls right now is physical or psychological ability. The fact is that the number of girls in freeskiing is very low so I get upset when I see girls complaining about things like recognition when your sport isn't popular or impressive enough to generate what you currently receive. If women's free skiing is to be successful, at some point it will need to stand on its own without help from the men's side of the sport and that is not yet close to happening.

Have you ever thought of the fact that women's freeskiing is just getting started? Men are ahead in the sport due to the fact that women weren't involved as much in freeskiing until the past ten years. Look at girls like Maggie Voisin and Maude Raymond, they are the faces of what freeskiing for women will become. Lets just say girls were late bloomers.

yeaaaa so stoked for this!

If you want to throw in a bc/pow segment there's a couch for you in Jackson!

to really make it in the streets you gotta dial in the squid park so you can ride with the sharks

we support your dreams to turn up women's skiing 100%

one big concern about your post is how hard you hate on competing,

you can make it into the big leagues for women's slopestyle without paying too much for a coach/ team, travel expenses, or entry fees (sponsors should cover entry fees once you give them the motivation)

so streets are cool and so is the "training ground" aka the park, just really make sure you're pimpin in the park before you try pimpin the city

Geoppers tryna function in the streets too this season so maybe add him onto your project

Dream Team BSG??

hit us up if you need help tieing the bungee (i have no idea how to tie one..), learning how to ride stairs, or stealing pallets to build lips/ trannies

Pray for snow!!

claiming that your going to put a full street part together right now is ridiculous. Its hard to imagine the amount of work, failed sessions and logistical issues, like speed, that go into collecting a minute of raw footage let alone a full part. And the toll that riding in the streets takes on your body is a whole different story. Also gonna need a lot more homies than your 1 friend to make this happpen. Gathering a group of 5 or 6 people, lights, genny, bungee ect at 11 PM on a weeknight to go hit a rail that has only a slim chance of working out is no small feat. Now imagine doing that 30 or 40 times in a season. Come back when ya footy is collected sistaaa, good luck tho!

looks like 2 homies posting off tha hoodcrew acct with different views on all this, haha!

I'm really interested to see how this turns out.

I do sort of agree with something said above, that you're hyping this up before it really needs to be hyped. But if well done, this will definitely be a good turn for the better in terms of what ladies are putting out.

with that said, I'm certainly down to help build and setup in the salt lake area if you ladies need any helpers!

I would never hype something up before even starting it. Just wanted to put the idea out there and wanted people to know what this project is about. I've hit at least 10 different handrails so far this season, and trust me, I know what its about and it is damn challenging. I am also not hitting the streets with 1 friend… Im not an idiot… it takes way more people than that. hahahahaha

The project is between myself and Savannah. There are so many more people helping us out, which is rad!!

Very few people are actually aware of how hard I have been working on this so early on in the season.

Keep an eye out for us boys,

Much love- Brooke

Don't travel to film unless you'll hit spots worth traveling for. It's not where you hit it, it's what you hit. Many people have made the mistake of going to Quebec City to hit dime a dozen spots wasting $1000s of dollars and 2 weeks to hit that they could have hit for free in their nearest city. If you want to go to a city like Quebec City: Red Ledge or Bust.

I'm really late to this thread, but I would like to say I've already been to like 6 or 7 spots with Brooke...she ain't fuckin around!

Damn I'd love to watch this. I see you and Danylle (sp? sorry.) killing it at Keystone all the time with more ability and style than half the guys there (and me for sure), so I have faith that if anyone can change women's skiing and move it away from comps, its you guys. Good Luck!

respect for getting after it such early season, it's pretty impressive you've already hit 10 + handrails and it's not even January. So keep getting after it and logging shots. Stoked to see how it turns out!

Im into it, i think the crew dynamic is something that really drives action sports and in particular skiing, which has been missing from women's freeskiing. Having women that work together in competing and filming in various aspects of the sport could go a long way to build an identity for women freeskiers and create new drive for progression. In the same way various crews have done for mens freeskiing. Also People who shit on women's freeskiing should probably kill themselves.
