i was going to do it over the summer because my hair gets really greasy if i dont wash it, but ive been too lazy

i just cut my dreads off like two weeks ago because it was way too hot. unless you live in a moderately cool climate i suggest waiting until fall.

yeah ive been growing my hair out and want to get dreads too. so far my hair is about 2 inches below my ear and almost below my nose. im waiting to get it longer so maybe in the fall

I'm hopin to sport them next winter. when I pull my hair down it goes just past my nose, and ya. I've just got a lot of hair right now. how long do you think I should grow it before It gets dreaded.

I had them for abotu a month. They weren't super knotty, because, well, only had them for a month. But I couldn't handle it. THey were too dirty (they would have been clean with time), and I can't have them because of my job.

Ihad them just long enough I could get them out, but boy did that hurt.

GET EM! I've had mine for a while now and I love them, I have naturally curly hair so it was really easy to dread and they are wicked good. Get some cocoa shay butter or some beeswax and touch them up with a good metal comb at least once and week and in the begining you should roll them for at least a couple of hours a day if not more, it's a pain in the ass but I can assure you that if you don't roll them A LOT you will regret it. If you can't get beeswax or anything you can use anything sticky like hair gel or honey. Don't wash them in the begining because they will fall out.

And then Trogdor smote the Kerreck, and all was laid to burnination.

yea, i heard they are a lot of work. its cool, though. ill just do it whenever im sitting around, which is all the time. and i got dreadhead wax. i got there starter kit thing and im gonna do them probably on staurday.

I had a bunch of friends do mine for me, they just seperated my hair and the took a fine toothed metal comb and tease the hair a lot and it locked into dreads and then they rolled it and waxed it. It's extremly painful when they do them, I took 6 ibuprofen and was still screaming and crying in pain but it was worth it. My exboyfriend braided his hair and put wax in it to get dreads and it didn't end up working at all that way.

Derek, they definitely can.

It depends on how you take care of them.

For the first few months, no matter what, they WILL smell and itch and be dirty and you'll have stuff in them. Esepcialyl if they take longer to knot if your hair isn't curly already.

You can't wash your hair for a few months, and that WILL smell and ITCH like a BITCH.

after they start knotting by themselves, you can wash them. I know some peopel that even condition them (which means their hair is VERY nappy already, i wouldn't suggest this, or they may come out)

nah, there are ways u can wash it about every week. u get a nylon on your head, and wash it w/ this special soap. the nylon keeps it from getting to wet and the soap keeps it knotted and cleans it. of course it will get all nasty if u dont take care of it, same w/ any hair. and i dont got the kit yet, i ordered it yesterday.

ya. I haven't washed my hair with shampoo for a while, probably like 2 weeks. it smells fine I just wash it with water and make sure the roots get washed out. my hair is straight so it's probably gonna be hard. either way I'll wait untill college so I can recruit some chicks to do it when I'm bored.

You can wash them, I started washing mine after a month and a half and they were fine. I use this stuff that sucks all of the chemicals out of your hair and it actually helps the dreads a lot.

I had dreads before. i bleached my hair, and only rinsed with water. The hair was so fried and damaged ta it just locked up super easy. Then i could wash it with shampoo even and they were still there. it was badass. had to cut them offf for court tho...

i used to have them, the easiest way to get them is to seperate your hair into little 2inch squares, the bigger the squares, the bigger the dread will be, u can put a small elastic at the base to start, then start backcombing the hair until it dreads u might wanna put another small elastic at the end just to hold it in place, after it starts to dread, get a good non-petrolem based wax and grease that shit, it takes hours and can be quite painful, if u dont wash your hair that just fuckin gross, start with good clean hair before you start anythin, and once you have them keep them clean, use soap/shampoo that leaves no residue to keep them clean, put it on, and squeeze it thru the dread and rinse it with squeezing water thru. any additives in soap/shampoo will kinda lube the hair and make the dread come loose, it takes like 2 months for the dreads to mature, just keep good care of them. but yea go for it, theyre dope, i cut mine off for my job but i plan to get them again in the future

i've got long hair...i think i'll pull off the dreads sometime before im done with high school. next summer maybe?

i just dreaded up my hair tonight. ill post a pic sometime tomorrow. i was suprised on how much my hair shrunk. it was down to the bottom of my lip, below my chin when stretched out, and now its barely past my eyes. it looks sweet though.
