Dreads + Ski Helmets

I got dreads over the summer and it is my first ski season with them. I've noticed how they are a lot less comfortable under a ski helmet than un-dreaded hair. Someone with dreads, do you have any tips on how to stay comfortable while wearing a helmet? Not wearing a helmet is a simple answer, but I do like to wear one just in case anything happens. Any help is appreciated. It's been getting to the point where I'm thinking about cuttin' them off. But that would be truly sad.

I imagine a large helmet with a hat underneath would help. I don't have much experience with dreads though.

perhaps a beanie or somthing that offers a bit more padding? or, wax the hell out of your hair and make it into a hair helmet when it freezes

Sorry to bump an old thread...
But, what I do is wear a headband under the back of your dreads over your ears and push it up kind of on your hairline. Then put your goggles over your hair so it flattens your dreads down a bit, then place the helmet on your head. I havent had any problems with doing it that way yet.

I have had mine for four years now and they started out a huge pain especially while wearing a helmet. It gets more comfortable as they lock up. Getting a helmet a size larger than normal helped out a lot too. Now I dont really even notice them when i have my helmet on.

respect for getting dreads, ive always wanted them but i feel like i would look stupid, if i were black it i would have them in a heartbeat

Yeah I'm the OP and I figure it out fine. Just an XL Smith Holt park but i took out the padding and put in some extra bike like padding. then i just wear a hat over my dreads and it's fine
