who here has dreads, i wanna get some and i need pointers on how to go about, should i order a kit from like dread head hq or find a place thatl do it, also, my hair is about 9 inches ling, i just measured a clump from the front anyways is that long enough, how long are they going to end up? i'd appreciate any tips or advice you can give me, thanks

 
im probably doing mine again tomorrow. i had them awhile ago. order the kit from dreadheadhq and follow their instructions. do not go to a place to get them done. and your hair is plenty long.

I did up may hair in dreads like a week ago. I used dread head hq, turned out nice. Going to a place would make better dreads cause the person would be experienced but its very expensive, but you could probally get some phatty skinny dreads.

NO! do not go to a place. even if they are experienced, every place i have seen does them wrong. they just twist and wax. they're fake dreads.

Don't forget to get some beads on them dreads, gotta get em all hippied out. my hair was down to my shoulders basically and i was going to dread it but my mom bet me 200 bucks to cut it, its 2 short now.

 
my friend went to a place and he looked like coolio for a while. he thought it would work he kept telling me but he looked rediculous and he gave up.

i got mine at dradhead hq. they are good. idk though, they are getting in my face becuase they are jsut barely not long enough to tie back (most are but some arnt) so i dont know how much longer i want em.

My little bro's friend got his done for like $300. Then he decided to shave his head so he kept the dreads in case he wants to 'reattach' them later on

if you put em in can you wash em out before they lock up if you dont like em, or do you have to cut em off?

you can comb them out before they knot up. it will take awhile and hurt, but you can do it. but remember dreads dont look good at all the first 2-3 days you have them, and dont look really good until they are all knotted up.

i had dreads for 11 moths all i could tell you is dont use wax just a comb and leave your hair alone and it will do fine you need patience thats all you could go on this dread forum people will help you on everything www.knottylocks.tk/

wax worked good on mine, just a little bit. put a little wax in like once every 2 weeks to keep all the loose hairs in. and once their knotted up, it is possible to get them out. except itll take like 6-7 hours to work them all out, plus your hair will be a lot thinner from ripping out a bunch of hair. when i cut mine, i cut mine so they were about 2 inches long and worked out the knots for about 15 minutes and my hair looked normal.

hah i thougth about dreading my hair... and then i realized i'm a chick and wouldn't want to shave my headafterwards to look like a man... is there any way i can brush them out?

my friend got 'twists' and decided he didnt like them anymore so he cut em off and put them in a ziploc baggie....they're still their after 2 years

 
^^ you don't have to shave your head... but you do need to cut it pretty short

how do you clean em? I know nothing about dreads. All I have heard is the bad rap that they are all dirty.

i have long hair and it gets wicked greasy after one day of not showering, if i got my hair dreaded would it get all greasy?

If it gets 'wicked greasy' after one day, then yes, they probly would. With dreads you should only wash your hair between 2 and 3 times a week, so I guess you're hair wouldn't be all THAT much more greasy if you follow the 2-3 times a week washing routine.

you only do the 2-3 times a week until they start to get locked up then you can wash em any time you want

 
My friend had dreads for like 3 years. They were about a foot and a half long when he cut them. Now his hair always sticks up, cause it was knotted for so long.

Ski. Eat. Sex. Sleep. Ski.

that was me a year and a half or so ago. my hair is not dreaded anymore and about the same length. i let my dreads grow out a few inches and didn't dread the hair groing from the root so when i cut it i had a little bit of hair.
