Who has them? Anyone want them? And if so, do you like them or regret it? I'm seriously considering it, but I don't know if Im ready for them.

i think they are gross. except if black people have them and keep them cleen. but girls with dreads are a no-go for me. i dunno why but i just cant bring myself to have any interest in them

having dreads is like saying, "fuck the man my life wasn't working on the traditional track and i accept the fact that im never gonna be successful so im just gonna go do my own thing and i dont give a fuck what people say cuz what people told me to do got me no where" or a shorter version is "im a dirty hippy"

No pics on this computer, but Ill post one later. My boyfriend says I can't pull it off, but then hes hella preppy and not into that type of thing... Everyone else thinks itd be tight.

I had them for 2 and a half years, cut em off in May after graduation for an engineeriing internship at cummins filtration... I miss them so much... Anyway, they are only dirty if you let them be dirty, I washed mine at least 5 times a week, usually everyday though, I didnt want a dirty head. People that hear dreads and say dirty are ignorant stereotyping douchebags. You should probly check out www.dreadheadhq.com They got a lot of info, pics, and stuff to get dreads. I suggest you only get the shampoo and comb and maybe the wax. The other accelerator stuff is just saltwater. Youd only need the wax mainly for the beginning stages to help keep them together, and then wayyyyy later on to keep some frizzies down. Its an awesome hairstyle, but be prepared to take care of them... I got some pics of mine in my profile

becky i was just talking to you about this haha. I think if u do em really thin, and like a bunch of them, and keep em hella tightly rolled, then you should do it.

Ah yours are so tight. Its a bummer you cut them off. I wouldn;t want mine to be as thick as yours, but Ill prolly do them within the next month... after homecoming and senior pics. And Jordan, yeah, fix your internet so we can talk without it freaking out!

Yeah it felt so wierd cutting them off and watching them fall down next to me... But you dont have to cut dreads off to get rid of them, if you soak in conditioner and massage it in then you can work them out. It would take a few hours, but it could be done..One thing about making them thin, Be prepared to see the length of your hair turn out to be about half as long as it is now.. The backcombing really shortens it. But when you do the backcombing, make it as tight as you possibly can. The tighter they are in the beginning, the quicker and tighter theyll lock up. Good luck with em

hahaha. its funny how kids get dreads cuz "they dont give a fuck", and then get all defensive when someone knocks on them.

dont get 'em, just dont. dreads arent meant to be washed "5 times a week", people who get dreads for "style" need to get their heads out of their anuses.

if u cant grow dreads naturally, then dont even bother.

YEah, my hair is hella long now and I was thinking about cutting it before I dreaded it because I don't want to deal with the length but I don't want to have short dreads... Blah. Im stoked though. My mom will flip but thats okay.

yeah dreads are rad...if ur from ethiopia. i suggest you look into the history of rastafari and dreads before you go through with this mistake.

they CAN be hot....but then when you want them out a shaved head on a chick isn't exactly the most attractive thing.....

I know the history and I know that they aren't exactly part of the white culture, but at the same time, I don't think it really matters all that much... Like If I like them and I want dreads, then whose to say that I shouldn't do it just because its not accepted culturally?

heres a reply i did some time ago in another thread

dreads are fucking sweet. I had them for three years. No they arent dirty, and never has anyone ever told me I looked dirty with them. Mind you there a hell of allot more work compared to normal hair. If you get them dont t be one of those people that think that you have dreads now you can be lazy. For my first two months I back combed mine for 20 minutes each day, and I only waxed them once a month cuz I didnt want them to appear dirts. If you hair is curly like mine they should mat up very well. and you can wash your hair, just no condidtioner.

The down side is when you want them out. You either have to shave your head, or like me spend 10 hours combing them out, and have insanely damaged hair for a few months.

Anyways message me if you got anymore questôn, I know allot of tricks about making, maintaining and removing dreads. As I have had them for three years, combed them out and givend them to three people.

Most white peoples hair doesnt dreads very nicely but if you have curly thick hair then your game. And I say go for it, just take care of them. And dont be surprized if you have to spend 3 hours a week on them.

Also, skiing with dreads looks sweet but helmet/ tukes make them flat, so if you do lots of skiing that means it will be more work. But so worth it.

and heres a site that helped me out

www.knottyboy.com they got all the shit you need

I dunno if it'll work well because I have stick straight hair, but my friend has the same type of hair and his look siiick, he just says that it takes longer to form the dreads and is more work to maintain because your hair will not naturally knot as easily. Either way Im gonna do it but not for a month or so.

who has a pic of a chic that can pull dreads off? cause i've never seen one. they just dont go on a chic in my opinion. But there may be some chics that can pull it off, i just havent met any.

It really isnt that difficult with striaght hair... My hair is striaght as hell and it knotted up nice and tight, liek with any type of hair, it will still take time

please no. I have never seen a girl that looks better with dreads than without. Sure some look ok, but worse than what they could look like. Don't do that to yourself.

backcomb is instead of combing your hair down you push it up and forms knots.

you jsut kinda roll twist and backcomb to make beautiful locks

eh. ive seen like two girls that looked good with dreads. but like veteran said...they looked better without them. i dunno, some girls can pull it off, but the whole not being able to wash your hair thing kinda gets to me.

If it's for fashion (which I think it's safe to say they are cause you're asking for advice on NS) we can't really help you. You have to ask people who know what you look like

how can u keep dreads clean? i thought dreads were not washing ur hair and it just becomes like sticky together

You actually wash dreads. Its not healthy to let them form naturally because then it can really irrate your scalp. To form dread you just backcomb them until they knot up. We'll see what happens... My boyfriend doesn't want me to get them but Ive been thinking about it for a longass time so Ill prolly give it a shot.

I'm locking my hair up later today, should be fuckin' sick, I can't wait, and for those of you who think dreads are dirty, you are brainwashed, why don't you actually take the time to research something a bit before making ridiculous comments that are far from the truth. And some girls are good looking with dreads, I saw a girl at Big Sky last year who was gorgeous and had some really nice, platinum-blonde dreads, it just depends on the person, but if you want them, go for it...what's the worst that could happen? You're hate them and cut them off, nice thing about hair is, it grows back. Here are some pics of a few girls with dreads that aren't bad looking at all.
