I want dreads so bad, but I have to have my hair short for my job. I'm pretty sure at the end of this semester I won't be able to go back to my current job though because of my class schedule and other commitments, so if that's the case I'm definitely going for it at the end of this semester.

im just keepin the unreal flow goin for now but i was thinking of maybe taking that path once its long enough

Now this a bandwagon for dreads? Dreads don't make you any cooler, you have to be cool in the first place. Getting dreads because other people have them is stupid.

as long as your hair is like 5 inches long you can start washing your hair the right way to get it started like i said the shit takes a long time to kick off.

Like tfast said OFF is probably the best dread wash, the chemicals really do spead up the process

use wool. You rub it all over your head and it takes all the moisture out and then you can get some dreads.

my buddy has dreads, or is working on em anyways...his gf hates them...i think they look cool and your right...theyre not that dirty

tru eh, i heard that you need some next shampoo that doesnt leave any residue or some shit like that, i dunno. i dunno anything about the process, can you fill me in on it.

^^ anything residue free should be good for mature dreads but you need like really gentle shit like baking soda to start them.

^ya man its hard to be patient the best way to get them is just dont do shit to your hair, Neglect it

^ i heard neglect wasnt the best way to do it, i heard it looks like shit when you neglect it. but ya this is only shit that ive heard so i dont really know. i heard the best way was like back combing or some shit

I had dreads in highschool, it was pretty rad. Random people would come up to me and tell me I had cool hair. I was a crust punk too so the ladies were into it. Had to cut them off for a job though it sucked. The other day I was thinking about doing it again cause I don't have a job where how I look matters anymore.
You have to get your hair so long before you dread though it shortens your hair so much.

You can do it by backcombing with a metal comb so you like seperate your hair off into however fat you want your dreads to be with rubber bands then individually backcomb and tangle the different sections until they become dreads. It takes hours and you need a couple people to do it but you can have normal hair one day and dreads the next. They take a while to really form and become strong dreads but they look pretty ballin right off the bat.
But just make sure your hair is really long because its going to get way shorter than you think and IMO short dreads look really shitty. And it will take forever to get length once they are dreaded cause they get fatter before longer.
If you do it that way you also have to spend some time individually twisting each dread throughout the day though for a while.
Also if you smoke know that your dreads will reek of whatever you were smoking because they hold smells way more than normal hair.

This is also true for any other hairstyle, or piece of clothing, or trend of any type. You do it too. No one is above it.

10/10 , totally agree. White people "think" they can pull off dreads, but it should be a strictly black affair.

Before you make assumptions do just a little research. Vikings, cavemen, barbarians, etc. all had dreads, because they are natural. It is part of many many cultures.

If dreads are an all black affair Rap music should be an all black affair in that case. Or drums or anything cultural for that matter.

And Im sorry that people feel that they need to change their appearance to feel cool, or be a slave to trends. sucks for them.

to a lot of people locks are a spiritual journey.

and to some it is just an easy low maintanance hair style

But i mean thats cool you guys sounded pretty smart telling everyone what you know about dreadlocks.

fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUU.......

Shit never been so mad

EVER!

i agree with negro in the sense that poorly manicured dreads make you look like a retard. actually and about that mad thing.

Yes of course! I forgot that goal in life is stictly to do whatever is cool. I only smoked because the cool kids were doing it, I only partied because the cool kids were there, I bought a fixie because they were the new trend at my school, I quit skiing for snowboarding for skiing because it was way more gnarl. basically you just called out the truth in the lie that is my sad charade of a life.

i just started putting some in..

use resident free shampoo for about a week before you start putting them in..

use climbers chalk, and backcomb the crap out of em. then roll them with climbers chalk often.

get small little rubber bands to "tie off" the ends, and continue to roll them.

after a week of that, you can then wash them, with any residue free shampoo. you just have to be gentle with them.

and make sure you DRY them COMPLETELY. use a blow dryer. they're like sponges and hold water alot. squeeze them out.

after you wash them, make sure you re-roll them with the chalk to get them tight and to lock up again.

and if any hair is sticking out of them or on the ends, take it and wrap it around the dread, then roll it again.

dreads are the most work for a hair due that you want to look like you dont care about your style.

Haaaaaa, cool beans dood. You're cool because you don't follow trends. I got ya. What is that called again? :)

I definitely have the hair for it, big time. Before I shaved my head I went into a dreads place and talked prices and stuff, it was gonna be like $400 and it would take 9 solid hours, and apparently it hurts. haha maybe next time

There's a difference. I'm not the type of person that says breathing is trendy and avoids doing it. I just don't jump on the bandwagon for things. It doesn't bother me to like something that is popular.
