ok so i fell pretty hard on a cork 5 yesterday and fell super hard on my shoulder and strained my deltoid i believe, i can't lift my arm sideways without pain (about 4/10 pain level when i try to).

anyways, I need to be able to ski by next weekend. any tricks you know to heal strained muscles?

see a doctor. the sooner you treat it properly, the sooner you will be back. it may seem like a bitch if they say no park for 3 weeks, but I would take that over shoulder pain for life

weed, alcohol, cocaine, meth, heroine, adderal, Ritalin, Tylenol, mushrooms, and ecstasy, in that order.

I fell hard on my shoulder at Windells and couldnt move it either but i didnt want to miss skiing so i just road anyway. It turned out just to be a torn ligament which heals itself in about a week depending on how bad it is. I would at least ice it though. The same thing happened to my brother too.

thanks for the responses, i'm gonna wait another day or so and see if it gets better before i go to the doctor. 2 comps this weekend and whistler trip next week so not skiing isn't an option.

and how does one "compression" a shoulder/upper arm? i know how to elevate, ice, and rest haha

You probably just subluxed your shoulder. That is pretty much a minor dislocation. It happened to me a few weeks ago at Killington. Mine wasn't too bad and it healed up in about a week and a half. Some shoulder injuries suck though and take a LONG time to heal. Try looking up some stuff online on how to strengthen it because chances are that since you did that it is weaker than before. Just keep doing those exercises and rest it as much as you can (I know you have to go skiing) but just rest it up until then and it should be fine. Just try to remember to roll as you fall, and not throw your arms up, because that is how it happens. And as to shoulder slings, there are some but greatly reduce your range of motion, making it pretty difficult to balance. Good luck and have a safe season!

when it doubt, check it out. you could have done something a little more serious, like had a slight separation or dislocation which could be really detrimental to your shoulder health. from my experience, once you dislocate your shoulder it's infinitely easier to dislocate it again.

I think the same happened to me except I caught an edge on a switchup and fell like like 6 feet onto my shoulder and dislocated my collarbone. It sucked I still skied but it definitely hurt for a while.

RICE for sure, but a muscle sprain/strain will recover pretty quick. Worth going to a doctor if you continue having pain or decreased mobility in case you did something to the joint too like a rotator cuff injury.

I fell hard on my shoulder skating over the summer and had similar pain, turned out that I had a very minor separated shoulder. If you separated your shoulder you should have a pressure point kinda near your collarbone that will hurt like hell if you press it

If you go to high school or a college go down to the athletic trainers office and tell them what happened. They'll help you out and most likely either do some cool electrotherapy, massage, ice/heat , and then wrap it for you. It's kind of complicated to explain how to wrap a shoulder but if you want to learn how to do it yourself look on youtube how to wrap a shoulder for compression.

meth was a great idea. I smoked a fat bowl of that bomb crackly ass crystal, and after powerfully elbowing a few small children at the mall my shoulder feels great. thanks dr. ns best doctor since that MD that killed MJ

+k to all, thanks for helpin a brotha out
