I've noticed a lot of the locals at my local are on these now days? did they just rip off all of LINEs pow ski tech and package it into a douchebag REI friendly ski that arcteryz/northface clad, pin binding using, low level doctor skier?

I mean, I love seeing these guys & gals in their 2k arcteryx coat & pants, with another 2k in there Marker alpinist binding and DPS sticks, everything your favorite TGR skier has, but with the skills of my 7 year old cousin.

its so funny seeing them under the lift struggling to make a turn in their brand new Gear!

FUK u REI hipster fucks

bro just shut up and go skiing holy shit.

imagine getting mad at ppl for skiing in gear nobody is forcing u to buy

1) Hipsters do not ski DPS. They’re too expensive for the hipster aesthetic.

2) who walking around with that kinda money in GJ??

3) They're made in same factory as Liberty and I’m pretty sure Vishnu too

I have a pair of DPS Wailer 99 Tour 1, decked out in arcterix and also racing skimo at a national level and throw down some big mountain lines. Even though the brand has a lot of bad rep for being dentist skis, I find the ski quite capable. My Wailers went through 6 seasons of hardcore touring and still running strong.

They are a flashy brand, with technology that can get the average noob on snow and give them a false impression of knowing how to ski. DPS kinda had a neat method to go after guides and shop owners to sell their skis. Thats the bottom line right? Sell the skis, no matter what.

No need for your hostility in this room. Go lace up those skates and nut a rail or something. Op is poking fun at the fact of money can't buy skill.

And OP it's pretty much people and magazines say they're good skis, they're readily available, and many of the jerries riding them have em because they can afford it and want "the best". It's all branding because at a certain point, minute differences in ski manufacturing aren't enough to outweigh an individual's skiing ability. There's a reason they're called Dentist Powder Skis (plenty other name variants out there but with a similar meaning...for the rich folk). Regardless I wouldn't buy em even if they were $500- no desire but also not hating people for riding them.

I think some people here ride them or have ridden them and spoken well of the brand.

you sound like you're 12. DPS hating is fair and fun but LMAO at thinking DPS ripped off line pow ski tech (and this mean girls breakdown in general)

if all these dudes looked and skied like you you'd be all butthurt about that too

I gave DPS skis a chance one season and tried about 4 different models out. Each one felt lifeless, made meh turns and meh in powder. The final conclusion I came to is that these skis are for people that have never skied on good skis and don't know better.

correct me if im wrong, DPS is one of the first brands to boast pre-impregnated carbon fibre construction. similar technology to aerospace industry and formula 1.

why is pre preg good? less resin + more consistent saturation = lighter, stronger bond

also the plastics they use in the ski are slightly different to what traditional composite manufacturing methods might use. they are optimized to prevent deformation during the press cycle because of the heat required for the impregnated resin to start curing.

not all twigs from dps are pre-preg. therefore DPS has sort of become a status symbol as opposed to being the tech driven company they used to be.

edit: me? i dont like the shape. no one needs a shovel THAT big.

I beg to differ. If you know how to ski properly, the wailers are the dopest skis I own. They are carbon fiber ski.

This pic was from the canadian skimo championship, I placed 7th of 12.

1. *DENTIST POWDER SKIS

2. *Doctor Poop SKis

3. *DUmb People SKIS.

haha! these are all so great! Honestly I just get very agitated seeing the doctors & dentists skiing their tricked out setups under the lift line, while I'm out breaking trail in my 2016 Line Sir Francis Bacons with a GETO CAST mod.

FUCK DPS

This is very good info! thank u for the insight. BUT FUCK DPS & any1 who they appeal too.

GO BUY SOME J SKIS dipshits

repping the NS sticker in a Skimo race is pretty bad ass. big props dude!!!

I do mentoring. Lessons are overrated haha.

Most of my partners upgraded their gear to superlight to extend the days and push longer mileage without the hip issues.

Its fun to see them trying to understand the ski for the first time. Superlight skis dont act like normal resort skis, the speed wobbles are significant and you have to adapt your technique to compensate.

DPS is just a brand that offer carbon skis. There are others, but the wailers are my first carbon skis and I still havent broken them yet.

Where did you hear number 3? DPS has their own factory in SLC (although some models are made overseas).

Look up GP87 factory. Scott from ON3P posted about it a long time ago too because someone was asking. They don’t make all models there but some. I could be wrong but I’m about 95% confident I am remembering correctly

* found it

I've got a pair of DPS Wailer 99 Alchemist skis for my all mountain touring setup, and enjoy them thoroughly. I'm not sure I'd pay full price, but getting 60% off made it palatable.

I also have a pair of Factions, Armadas, RMU's and Dynafits. Different tools for different days.

The people that run DPS are awesome, imagine having a business? I respect your convictions, but why so mad that someone is selling skis? if you dont like em, dont buy em?

I'd like to own a pair of DPS spoons some day

For true, huge disservice not mentioning DPS spoons, the lotus 138, or any of the other cutting edge stuff they did around the advent of the spatula. DPS was HUGE, cutting edge stuff in powder ski development in the early 2000s.

No doubt they're for dentists with the cray price tag, but put some respect on the name. Sounding like sound cloud rappers not knowing who biggie is.

don't lecture me about hostility when OP is talking about "douchebag friendly skis" and "fuck REI hipster fucks"

people on this site have such a fucking chip on their shoulder about skiers who aren't perfectly "core" and who don't follow the trends of literal adolescents and 20somethings. it's so fucking pathetic.

like i said in the unpopular opinions thread, this site is just full of kids with inflated egos at this point. or maybe severe self esteem issues, considering that they feel the need to randomly make threads about how much they hate other peoples' skis. OP is probably ass at skiing and just wants to reassure himself that he's better than somebody.

did a DPS rider fuck your girlfriend or something OP?

disclaimer, I would only buy the DPS skis with the cheaper construction that run for like $800. Which is actually less than a lot of skis by the brands ppl here dickride

Lol I'm fucking with you man. I don't give a fuck about your comment or op's opinion. Glad I got you triggered tho but also slightly disappointed you didn't catch the sarcasm in my tone. Only douche bags say "hostile" or "toxic" and actually mean it; man up. Also anyone who uses the word "core" to describe themselves or others and is serious about it is cringy as fuck.

I scooped up a pair of wailer 99’s for super cheap just cuz I was curious about the hype. They honestly are not terrible skis. They charge super hard and can ski any terrain I’ve tried to in Utah. They might be about as stiff as a board but still a solid all mountain ski. Don’t knock it till you try it

All I know is I feel the fury of 1000 white hot suns while standing in the lift line looking at at jerries and general complete fuck ups. But I'm slightly less infuriated by kooks I see on DPS. Am I a conceited asshole? Yes. Does it matter? No.

HEY man did u pose for that sick pic of u with a pair of skis on your feet & and another pair on your back for one of those vail mountain photographers u randomly see sometimes? Because I was thinking about doing a similar thing for my tinder prof. I know bitchez get dripping wet for a man in a helmet & 4 skis on his person. DRIPPIN

Was just checking out their site, the Lotus 138 comes in a 192 length??? Is that the biggest ski on the market? Damn

That's a ski that doesn't fuck around. My friend got the first iteration for cheap from evo.

Full reverse camber, full reverse side cut. Literally water skis.

DPS makes some sweet skis. I worked there for a bit building skis for them and was able to get 2 pairs for dirt cheap. mounted up the old tour1 106 with my touring bindings and got a pair of alchemist wailer 112 for the resort. Both skis honestly rip, the wailers have been one of the most durable skis ive ever ridden and rip through everything. they're mounted SUPER far back so they definitely look silly but i can still do all the basic tricks with ease and even slide rails. The tour1 106 are also super sweet, they're insanely light and ski well on the downhill too. I'm 5'10" and i have the 186 length so the added length makes them much more stable than their weight lets on. They can get kinda dicey on icy moguls but they're my touring setup so i rarely run into that issue.

The vast majority of DPS skis are built in their factory in salt lake, the only skis they outsource are their "foundation series" which are their less technologically advanced ski (basically just less carbon fiber and more wood). The majority of skis they sell are from their pagoda line which are built in salt lake. When i worked there it was the alchemist and tour1 line being built in SLC and it was the same thing, they sold a lot more of those than the foundations.

All in all, DPS makes some pretty sweet skis. Would I buy them for full price? no. Am I glad I have them? Yes. The company is cool. Also extra bonus is my dad who is nearing his 60s has a pair and says that they make him ski like he did when he was in his 30s. Whether or not that's true, i dont know, but im glad he's stoked on them enough to keep ripping around with me
