Downtown throwdown

fuck, last year it was so sick

i got a ton of shit from the expo

^it's across street from safeco. at the exhibition center

what exactly is it?

i got the expo thing. but i always thought it was a comp of some kind.

alright WA noobies, there are two 'Downtown throwdowns' there is the Bellevue one and the Seattle one. Both are put on by snoboy productions, which is Krush and his minions. The Bellevue one is tipicaly in Early to mid October, happens in the Sturtavents parking lot, and has a pretty lame set up, lots of people show up to watch for the carnage factor and Grant Domer usually gives it to them. In the past it has had both a skier and a snowboarder competition, but being Krush, I would not be surprised if it was snowboard only. The Seattle Downtown throw down is traditionally held during the ski expo/ski fever. It is held on the north steps of Quest Field. The Set up usually does not suck as much as the Bellevue one. However last year it was Snowboard only, and will probably remain snowboard only, which is really lame seeing as how they don't do anything entertaining.

thats funny evan, maybe you shouldnt spend so much time filming tom wallisch then? maybe stop using skiers to promote your videos? hm?

The sad part is it started out with both ski and snowboard categories. Jonas Marcinko won the ski category on the quest steps back in 2006....who ever is in charge should def bring the ski action back.

ok so i got some questions please help me out, post me. i won the last years sturtevants jam..skier division baby (evan your gay btw. ok so anyone got info on sturtevants rail jam and seattle rail jam. Also im probably working at the seattle ski show, so anyone got info on that. and question think i could compete in both rail jams and work at the ski show?

alright jamie heres the deal if u enter and place, but i place higher then u then i get your prize money. and if u place higher then me u get my prive money..deal

ive been told that there's not going to be a bellevue one this year, due to noise complaints from neighbors in past years.....

No bellevue throwdown this year, couldn't get the permit cuz the complaints but the seattle one is the 3rd weekend of Oct. invite only for competetors.

Boy I love invite only comps.

They don't allow for the general public to get their stoke on by actually participating, and replace that by getting to watch a bunch of sponsored fruitcakes destroy things while repping product. What a fucking waste of peoples time and waste of a chance to spread the stoke.

The anti-skier sentiment around here is ridiculous as well. I'm writing Snoqualmie.

They should have a public event with a qualifing session to weed out the non-competetive ,, thats progressing the sport. Pros will always be the main event , but they should have an ameture event also. New blood winners should be invited the following year to compete with the pros , now thats progressing, exciting entertainment and gives new names a chance to rise up.

I'm sorry David, but you and merbski or whatever his name is are just being down right stupid about this. Competitions are never about the athletes; there about spectators. Athleates rarely put money into the sport, their either sponsored or just too damn poor. Spectators do put money into the industry. Spectators tend to be much more stoked when its pros not am's. Even if the tricks are the same. Additionaly AM's using two year old gear, don't help sell more product. There is a reason that the rail jam happens durring the ski fever/expo. It gets people excited about skiing/snowboarding (really just snowboarding) and then they go inside and buy stuff. Those people are much more likely to put down that extra $100 for the nicer board/skis when they just saw some sponsored rider throwing down with it.

Also invite only skier events in WA just mean you have to ask Ryan Schmies to put you on the list. Really not that hard.

Am's gotta start somewhere don't they, XERIER or whatever your name is? When freeskiing started getting interesting it was the locals that had support by their community and friends to root for them and winning comps got them enough attention to get offers to enter the mainstream. I guess some urban rail jam isn't the same as an open schedual at the mountain, especially like you said when it comes to advertising products. Now days, now that there is soo much talent and less promo money to go around , it seems the really good skiers need a camera following them around and winning am events aren't as effective in getting them known. But sense you are so involved and a top baller in the industry, I'm sure you can set me straight about the facts?

If you want a public event go create one instead of bitching about how your not invited to the one that is inplace. This is the 3rd year of the Seattle Downtown Throwdown and as far as I can remember it has always been invite only. So don't start bitching about it being invite only now, esspecialy when it is boarder only.

No not bitchen about anything specific, just voicing an opinion about comps in general. I understand if it wasn't invite only you'd have a mess on your hands. Thats why I sudgested a qualifing session if there was an ameteur level format .. For a show, invite would be the only practical way. You could still pull it off if you had a qualifier ahead of time, so they were ready when it was show time. I wish I had the connections and was a "somebody" to promote the local Am's, and I'm not concerned with being a competetor cause I know I'm not ready to compete against the youth and may never be. Was your holyness invited,,, I'll be rooting for the underdog! You must be King of the PNW with that ego.
