Doug bishops influence on young skiers/ his children.

After watching the “on the road with Mr.Bishop” web series I am left with the opinion that Doug like to drink. a lot. With that comes the question of is this web series going to give young skiers the idea that drinking to excess is okay? I know that a lot of skiers do drink, and Its totally something that could be associated with park skiing. But I imagine that Doug would like to get his children into skiing when they are older and what does his own influence (as somebody of such high standing) have on the future of his children and other young skiers alike when trying to fit into our little skiing community.

Discuss.

It's not a child's show. It's directed at and watched by mostly adult. If you think showing drinking in it is a problem you're a bit of a pussy.

Apparently op is all about that XstraightedgeX life

wanna buy a throwdown CD?

why you gotta be bringing his kids into it? that's fucked

It's pretty much impossible to not be exposed to drinking. Even if you do live under a rock and somehow don't get crushed by it.

The 'On the Road' stuff is pretty much Doug's vacation. If you can't let loose on vacation, than what the fuck?! If you get to spend a week away from the house/wife/kids and have no obligation but to ski and socialize with friends you haven't seen in most likely too long, you would drink a good amount too. Unless you don't drink, which maybe you don't 'cause you know... you made a thread concerned about someones drinking habits.

This

And having had a mother, stepfather, and father who drank I can say I have yet to touch a bottle.

I feel like In the video it doesn't Actuslly show him drinking a lot but in the start it says he does. I don't think it will have much of an influence on his kids because most parents drink time to time.

Just to play devils advocate, Doug is more than welcome to wild out for the weekend. It's the fact that it's broadcasted to a certain demographic that idolize Bishop

I didn't know NS appealed to oppressed Christian kids..Hopefully these kids never watch the Hood Crew chopping up lines!

The ns demographic isnt kids anymore. The majority of people who visit this site are highschool age or older. I doubt an OTR episode changes much. I mean look at chug life, plenty of terrible role models but it was a very popular show and no one complained about that.

Op you might wanna skip the if3 OTR episodes ;)

B-b-but what about the kids, eheath? I can't believe even site moderators and admins are on-board with this! The good lord above is frowning in disapproval. Enjoy the eternal flames of hell, heathens!

How can we make this into an ad campaign? I want something like Under the Influence.

Can we get one of these just to be safe?

The main point which Heath brought up, is you have to realize that the demographic of Newschoolers has aged. Sure there are kids out there on the site, but most of the audience nowadays is centered around college age or late highschool.

As for kids that consume adult-oriented content - I am an absolute strong believer that it is up to the parents to teach good habits. Teach them to make their own decisions. Its the same logic as why I think its fine for kids to play GTA and not be worried about them clubbing hookers to death with a lead pipe or running down innocent civilians in a tank. I'll never understand why violence is so perfectly acceptable for Americans, yet you throw one nipple on the screen and everyone loses their minds.

The fact of the matter is that loads of skiing events are like this. We ski super hard during the day, and then party hard at night. My goal with doing this was to give a more real view of what its like to be out there - which has lacked somewhat in the last few years. These people aren't all the pristine role models that your church would like - and holding them to that isn't a good idea at all. Skiing got lame in the 80s and 90s because everyone got so damn serious trying to turn it into only being about competition. The Hot dogging movement of the '60s and '70s was a wild fucking party - hell there is one ski movie called "Winter Equinox" where at one point there is a hot tub with three naked dude skiers (cocks out and all) with about 4 or 5 naked females. The guys are discussing how much cocaine he thinks he could get if he traded in the corvette he just won at the big air contest.

Many people in life drink. Many people in life Party. Many choose not to do either. Neither is right, neither is wrong - its up to you as an individual to make your own decisions. However what isn't right in my mind is hiding the truth.

I made a commitment a while ago that I wanted everyone who does content with us to start telling the real story of what happens out there. This series was my attempt to do just that. Go out and show people that these events are fun as fuck, and we basically do the greatest sport in the entire world.

In terms of my kids - I know they'll do bad stuff. If I pretend that I don't, then I'm just ignorant. My hopes is that they do it in a responsible manner, and do more in life than just sit around at malls or behind the computer.

When there's a bit of weed or a bit of partying in skiing - I'd take that anyday with the idea that people are being influenced to get out into the mountains on a regular basis and do a sport. The fact that the basis of all of this is centered around sport is the most beautiful thing in the entire universe, and I hope that they enjoy it as much as I do. Partying and all.

Let the sport be loose I say. This is why snowboarding took half of the snowsports population... It was all of a sudden OK to not be a stuck up prick and have a little fun once in a while. :)

Before I joined NS, I was a young, innocent child. Now, thanks to Mr. Bishop, I am an alcoholic an a heroin addict. Thanks Mr. Bishop.

Exactly, I was just wondering how people feel about it when thinking that there is a younger audience getting into the sport..

I honestly don't give a fuck what people do personally I was just curious on others opinions on it.

that's what my parents did and at this point in time I know that I won't ever fuck around if i'm going to post secondary.

our industry was built on partying.

anyone who thinks drinking/recreational drug use doesn't belong in skiing doesn't know whose shoulders they're standing on.
