last night some of our soccer team went to this girls house...there was prob around 40 people there and one of the kids had to leave...everyone had been drinking and this kid that had to leave needed a ride home...my friend offered him a ride but he wanted to come back to the party at this point he wasn't really drunk so he begged me to go with him and keep him company so he would have a better chance of not screwing up so like a fucking moron i agreed and i brought the kid home with him so we got back to the party and the shit was almost gone so i drank a shitload of stuff too fast and fell asleep about 30 mins later so i fell asleep upstairs with one of the girls from the party and today i got probably the worst call ive ever had it turned out my friend left and he fucking got in an accident and by the time i had been called he had died now im sitting here and i don;t know what to do and i wish i could have just fucking stopped him and took his keys i feel so guilty that i could have saved his life and ive never been so fucking sad im usually a stoic when it comes to these things but i feel like this was partially my fault now a kids never gonna finish high school and the kid i've known for over 8 years is just gone im sorry i just can;t eeven talk about this anymore i just had to get this shit of my chest

i understand the feeling. no one will find the words to make you feel good, coz these words don't exist.

my view from outside is: this guy was smart and able to take hi sown decisions. he decided to drink, then wasn't able to manage hi slife. you can't count on others to take care of you.

he is the only guilty. that's sad, you feel guilty but you aren't. it's HIS own fault.

you just have to be sad, but you are not guilty. at least not more than the brewer, the distributor, the retailer of the beer, not more than the constructor of the car, not more than the one who built the road ...

that's my view. nevermind, in these situations, who cares of other's view

first off I'd like to say im terribly sorry about what has happened. Try going to a place secluded from everday life such as a ravine or an open field by yourself. Just do nothing for an hour or so at that place and try and think about the things that bring you joy. This should help relieve some of the pain. This may sound rediculous and its not meant to be offensive in any way but maybe you should try and talk to a counsellor. Try talking to your parents, if you break down and shed a tear don't worry about it. No one would make fun of you for crying over a best friend. hopefully this helps you out a bit.

there are lessons to be learned from experiences like this one, bro. learning where you're at with alcohol is one for sure. now, like everyone has said, what happened is not your fault. your friend made some choices on his own, and they turned out to be quite wrong. but it will make you think long and hard about responsibility. could things have turned out differently had you not drank that much? yes. but who knows, you may have gone in the car with him as well.

i know that speculating on other possible outcomes of the situation is only natural, and now matter how hard you try not to, you'll always wonder, 'what if...". but what has happened is final, so dude, just try and find peace in this situation, and don't be hard on yourself.

condolences wont bring your friend back and for that i am sorry, but you can step up and tell yourself that next time you can make a difference. not saying it was your fault that it happened, as that is never the case, but you always have the power to stop events like that if you act smart and take action. that is all.

I lost a good friend earlier this summer to a drunk driver. She went to my school, I talked to her quite a bit... I spent a week in mexico with her a couple years ago. Trust me, I know what it's like as well. And saying things like that just don't help the day after... even if you're right. Try to resist the urge to be a callous prick next time. That's all I have to say on this. Back on topic.

Im so sorry to hear this man but you really can't blame yourself...Obviously you shouldn't have let him drive but atleast you weren't with him...fucking think about it man, you could be gone yourself right now. Drunk driving is just bad news, I've seen far too many stories like this and its just heartbreaking. Happened to a person that was at one of our parties. Driver was seriously injured, one passeneger was killed and the other was also seriously injured. Next time you think of drunk driving think about whose lives your really putting at risk. Vermont has the highest teenage drunk driving fatalities (or atleast they did last year) despite the fact that nationwide average has dropped...it has actually increased in VT. Sorry to rant this is just something that really bugs me.
