Don't Pump -- May 15th

For all of you who drive (or if you're a grom influence your parents)

We are making a stand against the high gas prices on may 15th by not filling up. The idea is that middle eastern oil companies will take a huge hit, and gas prices should drop. It happend before in 1997, prices droped 30 cents litteraly over night.

Make a difference, don't fill up may 15th-- it'll save you money.

fuck it, why go just one day? Why not like a month? Oil companies would literally have a heart attack. Yea it would be alot harder, but not impossible.....

That is definately a good idea though

I heard on the radio the other day that some big oil company made like 100 billion in the first quarter (first four months of the year).....

hahah yea, ride a horse or a donkey! They run on grass hah

Yea its sad though, our country is so reliant on oil its absurd. Most Human beings are just naturally lazy as fuck....

Yes it is, there is no way. A day would be hard enough to get NO ONE to buy gas, sometime you just have to.

When I was living in Missoula, I would go at least a month without ever driving my car. MOre towns need to become bike friendly.

not buying gas for one day won't do anything and you're kidding yourself if you think it will. All that will happen is that everyone will buy the gas that they need the day before or the day after.

Everyone buy a motorcycle, my 250 ninja is basically a girls bike when it comes to speed, but i get something like over 45 mpg. It's my commuter, bought it in 05 and it has over 10k on it already, not to mention paid for itself by saving gas money.

you want gas prices to go down? Buy cars that use less gas. Spend the 5 grand extra or whatever to get that hybrid car so you can help lower the demand. Thats what is going to get gas prices down.

this is supposedly a pretty big thing. thanks to facebook i see tons of people that are planning on participating. personally, i don't it will make a difference, but i'll still avoid fillin er up. my prediction though is even if a million people don't pump gas, nothing is gonna happen.

The idea isnt supposed to be to spend more money......

Dropping 20K when i have a perfectly good truck is not something that is going to happen.

I'm not, and my family isn't either. Its a cool idea, gas over in Seattle is now $3.29 for regular... something needs to happen.

Meh, I'd have to ask Maximumsushi to be sure, but a day when nobody buys gas would probably give a little shock to gas companies, even if it was just psychological. And true, it would be better to have a "bike, bus or walk to work week", but I doubt many people would do that.

And to be clear, I meant I am not pumping gas that day, or my family.

is this a collaborated thing in which a lot of people are going to participate in or is it just something local

i agree with this kid. not pumping for one day doesnt work for a number of reasons. first, yes people will just compensate the day before or the day after. Also, whoever started this said gas prices coud drop thrity cents overnight. not even close. gas prices wont drop at all becaus that gas has already been bought and paid for. its not like you order it on a daily basis. companies will not callup opec that day and say "cancel our order" and then opec will drop prices becuase of the lack in demand. take an economics course. we need to reduce demand long term by getting more out of the gas we use (hybrid, less driving, fuel effience, public trasnpo etc)

we need a legit public transportation system and way less reliance on cars like banning cars in large metropotian areas as a start maybe? or having wicked high taxes to own them???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

oh wait....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!

This pathetic excuse of an attempt to lower gas prices is back in the limelight I see?

Even if you get 100% of the North American population to not purchase gasoline on May 15th, it will do absolutely nothing for gas prices. The only way to reduce gas prices is to reduce consumption and decrease demand. And not buying a product on ONE day, but not reducing consumption is not going to do shit for reducing demand.

Did any of you ever take a simple economics class in school?

PS - http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp

Seems that shit has been running around since at least 1999.

yeah. i was gonna make a thread on this then got lazy. im definately trying to not pump. told my parents

It's called making a statement foo.....thats how the world works....

Oh i guarantee it will do one thing for sure:

Put less money in the greedy oil tycoons pockets.....you cant deny that.

I have been to the gas pump 1 day in my license experience (almost a year) and i dont plan to go then

so i am set

that is so stuipid. IF you dont fill up on may 15, chances are your still gonna be driving around anyway and stuff, and using gas. Therefore, you will spend just as much money on gas, so oil companies will still get just as much money. The gas companies will make up for the sales lost, on the 16, when your running low on gas.

what most people dont know about gas prices:

gas prices are high because most of it is taxes. the government literally multiplys the gas prices with taxes. kinda shitty huh, not so much. the idea behind this tax is to tax the people who use the roads most to maintain the roads. when you are paying for gas, you are paying for the maitnance of the roads you drive on. there is no shortage of oil, or greedy middle eastern oil barons. the us functions on gas at a realistic price, but we have to pay more for it

I don't get why everyone is bashing it. Sure, it may do absolutely nothing. Big deal..Its worth a try isn't it? Its not like it hurts you in any way.

there's no reason to try. it's illogical. the only thing it will accomplish is making the gas stations more crowded on the 14th and 16th of may. who ever is advocating this is retarded.

OH MY GOD,

There is no point in even considering partaking in that. It's a ridiculous idea that has been around since 1999, when gas prices were half of what they are now.

Looks like the plan has worked REAL well.

most people i know (who dont have accounts on here) aren't filling up that day. it will have an impact

yeah if only a few people knew of this it wouldn't work but the word is being spread. people dont buy gas=huge loss of money for oil companies=lowered gas prices.........its worth a try
