Deleted my profile 3 years ago and haven't looked back, pretty freeing. Got rid of it after meeting a girl who skis so hard, looking for her IG only to find she didnt have one. That did it for me, if she doesn't have one, why in the world would I need one haha! Not with her, but thankful that being crushing for a minute led to deleting IG. Here's why I like not having it:
1. Totally changes why you take pictures. Now I take em to remember something beautiful or rad, or take them of my friends, or share with others. Haven't asked people to take a picture of me in forever, and it's sick. Sometimes buddies will get one of me skiing, but it's always the right moment instead of "Hey Trevorr, clip this!"
2. I have no idea what friends are popular or not: people don't have numbers next to them anymore. When I was in middle school/high school I remember thinking "Wow that person has x followers, they're so cool," and then my interactions with them changed. Now everyone's just the same
3. My social media now is NS, Strava to see what my buddies are sending, and phone calls.
4. I know what all my close friends are doing, because they're close. I don't need to know what 750+ people are up to all the time, need to focus on the relationships immediately in front of me
5. I also don't know where people land politically really, so it's a lot easier to have genuine interaction and learn from each other.
6. Everything is for the experience and joy, nothing is for a post
