Don't need Instagram to get laid anymore... so what now?

What are you using Instagram for? What's even its intended purpose?

Selling things, selling yourself?

I'm not selling anything... and since I got a man now, I don't really need to sell myself...

Posting just feels like "look at me, look at me" validation seeking.

What I like the best about it is keeping up with sports conversation.

What are you posting about on there?

I don’t post anything lol. I just have an account so I can leave lustful comments on ahalls page

Hmm very interesting. I've noticed that a lot of Gen Z and Gen Alpha have 0 posts but are still very active on IG.

Is that the way now?

Only really use it to see how old highschool and college friends are doing.

And then my reels algorithm throws me some mythic pulls from time to time.

Hmm maybe we're onto something with the instabanger reels... cuz for reels it's acceptable (and expected) to be like "look at me look at me".

And no one reads the captions so you don't gotta be like, "Blah blah blah I went soul searching to a shaman-yogi resort retreat in Bali to win this medal at an ultramarathon race because my mental health".

Is this the way? Just reels with no captions to entertain strangers purely to "share your passion with the world"?

No end game? The best in the world at catching catfish with their hands don't do it to sell fishing poles.

I keep up with the skiing world. I don't follow any girls from my school or city, few follow me though for some reason.

I post like once or twice per season if it's was a good season.

Something I don't understand at all is Snapchat. Why would I want to see someones face all the time or send photos all the time to people. I usually get confused when someone asks for my snap.

Deleted my profile 3 years ago and haven't looked back, pretty freeing. Got rid of it after meeting a girl who skis so hard, looking for her IG only to find she didnt have one. That did it for me, if she doesn't have one, why in the world would I need one haha! Not with her, but thankful that being crushing for a minute led to deleting IG. Here's why I like not having it:

1. Totally changes why you take pictures. Now I take em to remember something beautiful or rad, or take them of my friends, or share with others. Haven't asked people to take a picture of me in forever, and it's sick. Sometimes buddies will get one of me skiing, but it's always the right moment instead of "Hey Trevorr, clip this!"

2. I have no idea what friends are popular or not: people don't have numbers next to them anymore. When I was in middle school/high school I remember thinking "Wow that person has x followers, they're so cool," and then my interactions with them changed. Now everyone's just the same

3. My social media now is NS, Strava to see what my buddies are sending, and phone calls.

4. I know what all my close friends are doing, because they're close. I don't need to know what 750+ people are up to all the time, need to focus on the relationships immediately in front of me

5. I also don't know where people land politically really, so it's a lot easier to have genuine interaction and learn from each other.

6. Everything is for the experience and joy, nothing is for a post

Honestly, it’s just to post proof of life photos to all the people I don’t live near anymore or friends from a different stage of life.

I use insta to keep in touch with friends and see some sick skating/snowboarding. I use the old grindr if I'm trying to hookup. Insta is chill though. I dig it.

It's easier for me to post on insta then send videos to every single relative and friend individually. Also group chats are super useful because you can send stories and posts directly and make plans p quick. Also super clutch for sending pics and vids between android and iPhone

Used it to keep in touch with others while I was living across the pond and to prove to people, I am still alive.

Most people I know use it as a photo journal of sorts. They will usually have a public and a private account and the private one is the one they are most active on.

Does anyone just talk to people at the bar anymore like the fucking good old days? you kids are all so obsessed with phones you need them to get laid too?

Pathetic.

Cars. Except I f’d up mine and accidentally linked it to Facebook so all my friends and family started following me and seeing my hoodrat shit and “flexing?” so I quit posting cars mostly like I was, now I make posts of whatever I’m doing but usually never even end up posting because I’m too busy living in the moment. I can’t imagine the life of people who go do stuff just to post about it.

the Facebook/ig/threads bs has me ready to give up on it all. Then tons of people are on snapchat/tiktok which I don’t even use so I miss out on what friends are doing. Idk to me feels like we’ve gone full circle at least for my old ass, back in the day Facebook brought us all together, now we’re so fragmented over so many different social medias we’ve all lost touch.

unless somehow I’m not spending nearly as much screen time on social media as I should?

My algorithm is pretty good now. Mostly motorcycles and surrealist memes. Other than that posting pictures of my dog or seeing what old friends are doing.

What app do you use to get laid now?

haha tell me please haha (I am soooo lonely due to social media rotting at the fiber of society and making everyone self absorbed monsters)

I narrowed down my socials to ig and twitter (and I guess NS) and don't even own a smartphone anymore, I check them on a laptop sometimes. I will not participate in this bs and even if the gov't mandated smartphones I would smash the one they give me immediately. Everyone wonders why everybody is so lonely, depressed, anxious, autistic or what have you... the answer is the fucking soul sucking computer in your pocket at all times. Shit is ruining everyone fr

i use ig just to see what my friends or old school mates are doing, been removing hundreds of mfs i don’t know from my followers. instagram is great for music networking as well. i got a burner account that i just post random ass pictures to very often.

i am on instagram once every 3 or 4 days. it's not on my phone. which is nice. i don't like it that much. i like making edits though haha so sometimes ill post one but im very self conscious about clout and keep em sparce. my last one had like 90 likes and 50 comments haha.

Two beers in and I’m talking to everyone at the bar. lol. That’s half the point of going out. Making new friends.

AMEN. I love chatting with strangers. It's interesting to witness how easily people my age or older can shoot the breeze. Anyone below the age of 30 doesn't know how to fucking hold a conversation.

Can confirm live

Ironically typed on phone while at the bar. The story is slightly conflicting with the methods used to share it.

I deleted my account and made a new one and just follow like 10-15 specific pages. There’s a lot of really smart knowledgeable people using IG as a medium so I just follow those professional education pages related to my job.

Idk, I talk to people at the bar all the time. One of the reasons I was bummed when I went to NZ last year and the airport bars in Aus and NZ still didn't have bar stools back. I don't wanna sit at a table by myself.

Was just drinking with an Afrikaans guy last night at the hotel bar here. Idk at hostels some people don't engage anyone and just sit on their phones but bars seems pretty chill still.

Also nothing wrong with using your phone to get laid. I've been tearing it up on the apps this trip so far. What else am I gonna do with my hotel rooms other than fuck some strangers. Yolo

DMing memes to friends and sometimes posting art. Getting updates from avalanche info centres and backcountry beta from folks who ski at places I'm interested in.

Isn't Instagram full of bots anyway? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Also, I get sick of seeing people reposting the same motivational posts about hustling or healing some trauma, not sure if anyone else does.
