Im sick of this new thing the terrain parks are doing and making all the jibs urban. if i wanna hit an urban jib, then i will go and do it. Anyone else have this problem? Big mountain does and so does fernie. i hate having to pop 4 feet to every jib.

i prefer gaps, but not urban style rails in the park. the hardest part of park rails should be sliding them and spinning on and off them, not trying your hardest just to get on. it should be clean.

^^^^ go to banff their park is sick, i was out there early season.....be thankfull u have rails with decent get ons, i life in the land of flat bar rails with transitions on instead of jumps so snowboarders can ride on 50 50 but skiers have to ollie in, it sucks

well if its a multi kink rail, i think it should have just a small ollie pad. but if its a flat bar or box, there should be a nice jump on so you can spin on an what not

rails shouldn't be ride on but you should have to pop more than 3ft to get on at a big mountain. maybe like every once and a while its fun but when you go big mountain riding you shouldn't have to do that all the time.

 
having a couple of urban style rails is nice when you cant really do urban because there is no snow...

I think urban rails and set up stairs with handrails and stuff like that are sweet. If you don't like them just don't hit them instead of whining about it. And ride on rails are probably the worst invention ever, to enable crappy snowboarders to come dick around in the park.

yea... i think it's good to have gaps to rails but there should be a good variety. We need ride ons so that beginner skiers can learn how to do rails. At a place i ski (cop) there are ride ons but those rails are double kinks and stuff. It pisses me off that when i was learning how to do rails the only good rail with a good run up was a double kink. The ride ons should be the easy ones and the ones with gaps should be hard.

at my mountain everybody snowboards so all the rails are ride ons w/ no gaps me and my friends always have to fix them

Anyway yeh I dislike ride ons because it encourages snowboarders to just ride on, and that is so borring. I understand kids starting out, but that is why there are beginer parks. I think each rail should have at least a 1ft gap to it to encourage hitting them properly, and teach that you need some speed to slide them smooth.

 
yea switch_9 I agree completly. i found myself standing above this flat-down hubba box the other day and thinking 'how the fuck am i suppost to ollie 4 feet straight up?' A little later i saw a snowboarder try it and slam right into the front of it. he didnt get up for a while

i just went to my home mtn tonight after skiing elsewhere this past week... everything is now ride on. apparently management thought gaps onto rails were unsafe, so now every rail is near impossible for skiers to slide. ride on battleship rails that are flat in the ground with no transition dont tend to work out so well. i can understand having ride on boxes and whatnot for a beginner park, but downkinks, battleships, rainbows, drop rails, if you need a ride on, your not gonna be able to slide that kind of stuff anyway.

 
youve got that right. i like a little gap, it makes it more challenging. if youre not gonna make the gap, you probably shouldnt do the rail

Gap-on rails are fun especially for down rails, falt down, etc. but for rainbows and battleships, I think it is perfectly necessary for it to be ride on.

Ride on rails are for snowboarders who suck so they can you kno ride on them. They think they need talent to do this so we should just let them. But i do think there should be some gap.

ya of course there needs to be a gap that isnt the problem any gap can be cleared with enough speed... its when they build the jump so fucking low that if you dont ollie perfectly you get nutted or slam into the front of the rail

yeah...some ride on boxes and small rails are fun cause they let you practice butters and spins on without fear but everythign else should have a 2' gap or bigger
